The Peyton Society of Virginia held its annual meeting at Aquia
Episcopal Church, Stafford County, Virginia on Sunday, May 20,
2001. John Peyton was one of the major leaders of the county. He
was a Justice and a member of the House of Burgesses. As a young
man, he had also been one of Governor Spotswood's Knights of the
Golden Horseshoe. He was a member of the Aquia Church vestry
when the current building was constructed in 1757. The society
meets annually on a Sunday closest to May 18th. This society has
all of the genealogy information about John Peyton, his
ancestors and descendants. I don't know how much information the
church currently has on Peyton himself and would suggest you
contact the Peyton Society for such information but you might
like to find a copy of THE REGISTER OF OVERWHARTON PARISH
STAFFORD COUNTY, VIRGINIA 1723-1758, by George Harrison Sanford
King, Southern Historical Press, Inc., P.O. Box 738, Easley,
South Carolina 29641-0738, 1961, ISBN0-89308-576-6. It has quite
a history of the church including names of people who were
married, baptized, confirmed and buried at the church as well as
vestry members. It also has much of the colonial history of the
church, Stafford County and Virginia in it. I checked the index
and there are several references to Peyton Family members. The
book is copyrighted so I cannot provide information from it. You
might also like to obtain a copy of the History of Aquia Church
which is for sale through the church. The address for the church
is Aquia Episcopal Church, 2938 Jefferson Davis Hwy, P.O. Box
275, Stafford, VA, 22555-0275. You can also visit the church's
website at www.aquiachurch.com. I hope you find this bit of
information helpful. Sincerely, Ed Powell
