Dedham Historical Register:
"John and William Partridge with their sister Margery came from
England in the fifth ship that followed the 'Mayflower.' They
and an older brother, Henry, born in London in 1604, were
descended from the Hockham Hall Partridges, of Norfolk County,
described as landed gentry... [It is doubtful that Henry was a
brother born in 1604, because the others were born much later in
the mid-1620's].
...John Partridge was a resident of Dedham before he went to
Medfield. Land in Dedham, lot No. 12, was granted to him January
7, 1652. He presented bills for services to the town October 27,
1652 and Jan. 18, 1653. He was admitted a Townsman Nov. 3, 1652.
His name is subscribed to the Covenant.
In 1653 he bought the place in Medfield owned by Joseph Ellis.
Like William and Margery, he came to Medfield unmarried; but not
long did he remain so. On December 18, 1655 he was married in
Dedham by major Eleazer Lusher to Magdalen Bullard, eldest
daughter of John Bullard, one of the original signers of the
Dedham Covenant and one of the first settlers of the town of
Dedham. He came to Medfield in 1651... He bequeathed legacies to
his daughters, Abigail and Hannah, and a legacy to John
Partridge, husband of the third.
In 1676... the Indians burned his house and its furniture, the
barn, twenty bushels of corn, ten or eleven head of cattle, and
two horses. His wife died the next year. He bequeathed his
homestead to his son, Eleazer, with whom he probably lived until
his death... His will was written June 20, 1701..."
Rev. Abner Morse:
"John's house and barn were destroyed by Indians in 1676 when
Medfield was burned, and he lost a quantity of grain and several
head of cattle (Tilden's History of Medfield, page 95)."
Samuel R. Durand:
"John Partridge died May 28, 1706. His wife had died many years
before, on Dec. 27, 1677 in Medfield. Since there is a record
that his brother, William, was born in 1622 and sister Margery
in 1628, it is inferred that he was born in 1625, and was
therefore past eighty at the time of his death.
In 'The Partridge Genealogy' by George H. Partridge (1904),
there is considerable data about the Partridge family in
America, and in particular about the descendants of John and
Magdalene (Bullard) Partridge."
