King ECGFRITH

____ - ____

ID Number: I97721

  • TITLE: King
  • RESIDENCE: Mercia, Briton
  • RESOURCES: See: [S3753]

Notes

681 - King Ecgfrith of Northumbria requests that the monks of Monkwearmouth found a new monastery at Jarrow. They build a complex of stone buildings there.

684 - King Ecgfrith of Northumbria sends troops, under Dux Berhtred, to ravage Meath in Ireland.

685 - Cuthbert advises King Ecgfrith of Northumbria not to invade Pictland. Undeterred, Ecgfrith marches his army north to engage the enemy at the Battle of Nechtansmere. The Picts, possibly with Scottish and Strathclyde Briton help, thoroughly defeat the Saxon guard. The latter permanently withdraw from Pictish and Scottish lands north of the Forth and also from much of the British territory north of the Tweed. Death of the childless King Ecgfrith of Northumbria. Supporters of the House of Aethelric secure the succession of his illegitimate half-brother, Aeldfrith, possibly with Irish and Scottish help. Aeldfrith is brought south from Iona, where he is studying. Death of King Osric of Hwicce. King Oshere continues to rule alone.

685 In this year Bredei son of Beli, king of the Picts, killed Ecgfrith at Linn Garan. (a different Ecgfrith or dates are wrong.)

Reuben RUCKER

ABT 1765 - ____

ID Number: I41117

  • OCCUPATION: sheriff in Greenup Co. KY
  • RESIDENCE: Orange Co. VA; Greenup Co. KY; 1811 Davidson Co. TN; Madison, MS; Lawrence Co. AL
  • BIRTH: ABT 1765, Amherst Co. Virginia

Father: Peter RUCKER
Mother: Elizabeth TERRILL

Family 1 : Mary Foster TERRELL
Family 2 : Mary I. LOVE

Notes

"Circa 1798-1810 Reuben Rucker moved his family from Orange County, Virginia to Mason (later Greenup) County Kentucky. His first wife Mary died either in Virginia or after their arrival in Kentucky. In 1808 Reuben married his second wife Mary I. Love. Reuben served as sheriff in Greenup County. The 1810 Greenup County Kentucky Census lists Reuben Rucker. Reuben had trouble gaining clear title to his land in Kentucky and this may have been the reason he moved to Tennessee in 1811. Reuben and his family settled in Davidson County, Tennessee. Reuben then moved his family to Madison, Mississippi and stayed there from about 1814 to 1818, when he relocated to Lawrence County, Alabama Territory.
