Mother: MARY PROUDE |
Miss PENINGTON bequeathed $5000 to the Episcopal Hospital. She
was a blood relative of the first Mrs. William Penn, who was
Guli Springett, daughter of Sir William and Lady Mary Springett,
through Edward PENINGTON, son of Lady Springett by her second
marriage. Lady Springett, following the death of her first
husband, married Isaac PENINGTON, noted Quaker minister and son
of the Lord Mayor.
Edward PENINGTON came to Pennsylvania in 1698 by appointment of
his brother in law, William Penn as Surveyor General of the
Province."
Edward was the step-brother-in-law of William Penn, and
appointed his surveyor general. His son Isaac was raised in
Bucks County and moved to Philadelphia, and there the family
stayed for many generations. The name died out as a surname in
the late 1800's, but persists as a first or middle name in the
family.
