"It is my will & desire that my negro boy Roderick be
emancipated and set free, as soon as he conveniently can after
my decease, and if the laws of the state will at the time of
such emancipation not suffer him to remain in the state in a
state of freedom, then my executor of administrator....is
injoined to convey him at the expense of my estate to the
Cumberland settlement in the state of Tennessee; and to render
the situation of the said Roderick when emancipated the more
comfortable & eligible, I give & bequeath him & his heirs
forever, one hundred acres of land, lying and being in the Mesa
district and state of Tennessee, and fifty pounds cash,....
Roderick is listed in 1820 VA census in Richmond City, Henrico
Co..
