Notes

William was a Methodist Preacher licensed in Charleston, SC in 1813. American General Index, Vol. 32, p. 598, by Ester Fremont Rider. (Colburne-Amersene ).
On p.297, Henry County was a place he was stationed as preacher. The two brothers William & John preached in GA for a time and there is a Collinsworth Rd and a College they started, there are other things named for them and lots of babies.

His appointments included Brunswick Co. GA 1814; Ocmulgee, GA 1815; Broad River Dist NC 1816; Camden SC 1817; Apalachee, GA 1818. He joined his brother Thomas in Amite Co. MS later moving to St. Helena Parish, LA.

In addition to being a preacher, he was also a planter. According to Essie Chaney Watson, a great-granddaughter of their daughter Mary Eleanor, William and Ann are buried at their "old home place" in E. Feliciana where they moved when their home at Chipola, near Darlington, St. Helena, LA burned sometime after 1839.

Many dates, names and relationships affirmed by Collinsworth Family Bible, owned by the late Rev. Delos Cassels who died Dec 23, 1966. This apparently was William and Abba's Bible. Also, MS Cem. & Bible Records, V. 10 & 14.

The assessment roll of the parish of St. Helena, LA for 1824 identifies William Collinsworth as a preacher with 344 acres of land on the J. Branch. The assessment roll for the year 1826 identifies Wm. Collinsworth as a minister with 200 acres on the J. Branch.

In St. Helena Parish, LA; Probate Records, Bk D, p 139, in Jan/Feb 1831 William Collinsworth is shown as the adm'n of John ROLLINS estate. and on p. 142, 24 Mar 1831. On 17 Feb 1831 William Collinsworth was appointed curator of the estate of John Rollins and tutor for David Dixon, minor son of John Rollins.

On 1 Sep 1831 Wm Collinsworth sold to Robert Walker 250 acres on the Amite River bounded N by Priscilla Prewitt, E by "B. Pipkin and S. by Walthall Burton - acquired from Erasmus Williams.

In St. Helena Parish, LA; Probate Records, Bk D, p. 175, on 27 Mar 1834 at the sale of property at the residence of John Youngblood dec'd, by his widow Mary Youngblood, William Collinsworth bought a 450 acre tract of land on Buck Creek, the home of Mrs. Youngblood, and 2 slaves for $600.

Wm Collinsworth adm. of the est. of John Youngblood, purchased 450 acres on Buck Creek from the est. of John Youngblood. Later objections were raised over this purchase.

In a December 1834 appraisal of an estate in St. Helena Parish, LA; Bk D William Collinsworth, appraiser.

On 1 Sep 1836, Wm Collinsworth sold to Robert Walker 488 acres on the Amite River, bounded west by the river, south by Richard Williams, east by William Collinsworth, north by Zachariah Nettles, acquired by William Collinsworth by purchase from William Williams.

27 Feb. 1843 Petition of Ann Hodges, wife of Wm. Collinsworth, states she married Wm. abt 1819 , while the civil code of 1808 was in force. That she inherited from the estate of her father and mother John and Ann Hodges, deceased, some negro slaves, who are named. She also states that since 1820, John Hodges her father paid to Collinsworth as a donation to Ann $400.00. She states she also received from her father an undivided interest in a tract of land in Wilkinson Co., MS, which her husband sold in 1821 for $400.00. She states that in abt. 1823 Collinsworth sold a horse which she received from her father for $200.00, and that he sold slaves which she had inherited from her father. She prays for a separation of property.

(possibly William was married before and had children - still a mystery why John R. Collinsworth's Bible given to him by his father William was in the possession of
The book turned up in 1950 in the hands of another Collinsworth family with added inscription: "Transferred September the 9th 1884 from O.M. Collinsworth to N.C. Collinsworth. M. A. Collinsworth was Borned August the 23, 1876." It is unknown what relationship O. M. is to our line.)
M. A. Collinsworth was Borned August the 23, 1876.)
