THE WILL OF JOHN WINN: In the name of God, Amen. I, John Winn,
of the Parish of Cumberland and County of Lunenburg, being weak
and infirm in body but of sound mind and memory thanks be to
Almighty God for the same but being persuaded of the certenty of
death, am now moved to declare this my last will and testament
in manner following, (viz) I give devise and dispose of my
estate in the following manner and form.
Imprimis, Item my will and desire is that all my just debts and
funeral expenses be first satisfied.
Item, I give to my son Mourning Winn one negro boy named Abraham
to him and his heirs forever.
Item, I lend to my beloved wife Ann Winn the land and plantation
whereon I now live except the reserves hereafter mentioned but
my son Little Beary Winn be allowed the liberty to build on the
upper part of the said land convenient to cultivate part of the
said plantation land to my present wife which I do lend to her
with all the stock of every kind, with all my household
furniture together with my still and the following eight negroes
(to wit) George, Great Jude, Dinah, Phillis, Dick, Age,
Barberry, and Ceasar during her natural live which estate so
lent to her is to be managed according to the discretion of my
Executors hereafter named.
Item, my will and desire is that the eight negroes and the
movable effects with my still now standing, and their future
increase to be equally divided at the death of my beloved wife
Ann Winn between my eight children hereafter mentioned
(viz) John Winn, Peter Winn, Lucretia Hundley, Little Beary
Winn, Mourning Winn, Mary Ann Winn, Jincey Stone and Jerusha
Gunn to them and their heirs forever, (except) a Book called
Berkee on the new testament which I give, devise and bequeath to
my son John Winn.
Item, I give to my daughter Elizabeth Allen one spoon to her and
her heirs forever.
Item, I give and bequeath to my daughter Millender Stone fifteen
pounds to be paid within twelve months after the division of my
estate as above directed by my executors, my will and desire is
that if the British debts which I am owing should not be paid
before the division of my estate shall take place as aboved
directed, then that each child coming into such division shall
pay their proportion of the said debt, whenever it must be paid.
I give unto my son Little Beary Winn the land and plantation
whereon I now live according to
the new line beginning at a corner Walnut tree on the creek
thence new line northward to a corner Red Oak new line continues
eastward to a corner Hickory in William Bett's line on the head
of the hickory land branch it being the upper part of my land to
be in full possession thereof at the death of my wife to him and
his heirs forever.
Item, I give unto my son Peter Winn the lower part of my land
according to the new line as before mentioned with ninety acres
a survey lying on the opposite side of the creek which is now in
his possession to him and his heirs forever.
I do hereby constitute John Winn, Peter Winn and Willian Hundley
Executors of this my last will and testament revoking and
disannulling all and every will or wills by me heretofore made.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this
seventeenth day of August one thousand seven hundred and ninety
three.

At a Court held for Lunenburg County the 12th day of February
1795. The last Will and testament of John Winn, dec'd was
exhibited in Court by Peter Winn one of the Executors therein
named, and was proved by the oaths of two of the witnesses
thereto subscribed and ordered to be recorded. And on the motion
of the said Executor, who made oath according to law,
certificate is granted him for obtaining probate of the said
will in due form, he giving security, whereupon he together with
his securities entered into and acknowledged bond according to
law reserving liberty for the other Executors named in the said
will to join in probate when he shall think fit.
