COLHOUN, John Ewing, (cousin of John Caldwell Calhoun and Joseph
Calhoun), a Senator from South Carolina; born in Staunton,
Augusta County, Va., around 1749; attended the common schools
and was graduated from the College of New Jersey (now Princeton
University) in 1774; member, State house of representatives
1778-1800; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1783 and
commenced practice in Charleston, S.C.; farmer; elected a member
of the privy council and also a commissioner of confiscated
estates in 1785; member, State senate 1801; member of the
committee which was instructed to report a modification of the
judiciary system of the United States; elected as a Republican
to the United States Senate and served from March 4, 1801, until
his death in Pendleton, S.C., October 26, 1802; interment in the
family cemetery, Old Pendleton District, now Pickens County,
S.C.

EPhraim Wilborn of same, for 30 sterling, part of tract of 316
acres on Bufflow Creek, a branch of Fairforest adj. Hugh
Holland, Richard Powell, Jonathon Cook, granted to said
Richardson Rountree 3 April 1786, surveyed 10 March 1785 on
north side of Buffalow Creek. Richardson Rountree (Seal), Wit:
Richard Powell, James Rowntree. Proved in Union County by the
oath of Richard
Powell 27 June 1791 before Thomas Blasingame, J.P.[1]
C, 364-366: 15 March 1793, Richardson Rountree and Mildred his
wife of Union County, to Thomas Welborn of same, for 110 p[ounds
sterling, tract on a branch of Fairforest called Buffelow Creek,
part thereof being part of grant to William Bishop 23 June 1774,
300 acres adj. land laid out for said Rountree, adj. Aron
Harling's land, William Bishop and Evan Thomas, the other part
being 316 acres granted to said Richardson Rountree 3 April
1786, adj. Crooks line. Wit: Joseph West, Ephram Wilborn,.
Proved by oath of Ephram Welborn 21 April 1794. Recorded 22
