Notes

"his name occurs in the town records under circumstances which lead to the conclusion that he settled in Quidnesett before 1760, and his family is referred to in the records Jan. 14, 1762. He bought land in Coventry of Benj. Bates, March 25, 1767 and Oct. 5, 1768, sold the same to Francis Bates. "The 1-2 part of a certain logway adjoining to a river by the name Mossup [Moosup] River in Coventry whereon stands one corn mill and is a conveniency for a sawmill, together with 1-2 said corn-mill, it being the same logway I bought of Benj. Bates, together with 1-2 the privilege of the stream and dam whereon said mill stands with privilege to erect a new sawmill," etc.

He sold, Sept. 8, 1772, "the farm on which I now live," 102 acres in Coventry for £90, and probably emigrated soon after. The Aylsworth Register says: "he resided sometime in Schodack, N.Y., then moved to Canada." It is the opinion of some of his descendants that he dwelt in Saratoga Co., N. Y., awhile. He entered Canada in the scarce year, 1788, and settled in Ernesttown, near Bath, where he, his wife, and three children died during the prevalence of spotted fever in 1803. He was a man of resolute character. Having a distressing felon he removed the affected finger himself with a chisel and mallet".

"Their family of children, so far as known, were as follows :
i Otho Nial (4) m. Charlotte Bowerman, 1805, and dwelt in Ernesttown.
ii Job (4) b. about 1767, m. Sarah Martin, 1795. He had his father's homestead.
iii Esek (4) b. Oct 28, 1768, in North Kingstown. [Cov. Rec.] He probably died young.
iv Sarah (4). She was nearly speechless from sickness in childhood, and died, unmarried, at her brother Bowen Aylsworth's, in 1846.
v Elsey (4) b. Nov. 10, 1772, in Rhode Island, m. John Bristol, Dec. 8, 1787, and dwelt in Ernesttown.
vi Elizabeth (4) m. Morris Brisco, and dwelt near Bath.
vii Esther (4) m. Robert Perry, and d. 1803.
viii Bowen (4) b. Feb. 27, 1778. m. Hannah Perry, Nov. 21, 1797, and dwelt in Ernesttown.
ix Benjamin (4) d. in 1794, about 14 years of age. (b 1780)
x Haskell (4) d. in 1803, about 21 years of age. (b. 1782)
xi Catharine (4) m. William Rogers, and emigrated to the Western States.
xii John (4) d. in 1803, about 16 years of age. (b. 1787)
Bowen was a surname common in Rhode Island at the time Job emigrated, though how it originated as a Christian name in this family has not been explained".

"Either Joseph or wife Jane died in 1769. Kathryn Salyers says this Joseph should be a child of John Hawkins' first wife, because he is much older than his siblings."

Note: "If Joseph & Jane Nicholas were married in 1717, then wouldn't John, b 1718, be the eldest child? Joseph Jr dob shouldn't be 1712/13.

This is a note, not a correction: HER has Joseph & Jane having 8 kids (not in birth order, as he has no dates after John) -- John 1718; Jane, m'd Anthony Waddy; Mildred (you have); Agnes (you have); Elizabeth m'd in 1745 Elijah Morton, had kids John, Sally & Jane; Lucy m'd John Wood; Sara; Joseph Jr m'd Margaret Conner."
