1851 Will of Edmond Hodges: James W. Hodges lives in Sevier Co. TN & retains his interest.
"Loss of the Sultana, p. 173-174: Wiley J. Hodges of Sevier County TN b 4 Nov 1835.
Captured at a trestle in Alabama Sep 25, 1864, confined in Cahaba, AL prison until 6 day of mar 1865, then taken to Vicksburg for exchange and was sent up the river on the "Sultana".
"I floated down the river on 3 planks and at daylight called to two men on the bank who rescued me and took me to a house where I remained till a steamer came along and carried me back to Memphis. I was discharged from the service of the US at Nashville, TN on the 15th Jun 1865. My occupation is that of a farmer.


Enlisted in the Union Army in KY or in 1863 in Knoxville, TN. Was a survivor of the Union transport hsip "Sultana" which sank north of Memphis, TN in 1865. He was captured at a trestle in Alabama 25 Sep 1864 and confined at the Castle Morgan prison at Cahaba, near Selma, AL.


Children: Ida Bell, Joseph E., Frances Connerly, John Harvey, Delily Ann, HiBurnie, Efiegnetia Jane, Robert D. and Thomas Sheridan Hodges.

8330: Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 3rd ed., 1886. Warren County. "BENJAMIN F. PROCTER, attorney at law, and master commissioner of the Warren Circuit Court, was born in Logan County, Ky., November 26, 1849, and is a son of T. L. S. and Agnes H. (Carson) Procter.


He is the seventh of nine children, and is of English descent. His grandfather was Capt. Ben Procter, born near Winchester, Ky., and was for many years captain in the state militia. T. L. S. Procter was born near Auburn, Logan County, in 1808, and his wife in Morgantown, Ky., in 1815. He was a miller and farmer, and one of the leading and prominent citizens of Logan County. He died in 1882, and his wife in 1870.


Benjamin F. was educated at the common schools of his native county, at Cottage Home, near
Russellville, Ky. (conducted by Prof. C. P. Shields), and at Bethel College, in Logan County. He began reading law in 1872 at Russellville. The next year he came to Bowling Green and continued his studies under Judge Thomas H. Hines. In 1873 he received license, since which time he has continued to practice. Politically he is a Democrat. In 1875 he was elected attorney for the city of Bowling Green, and re-elected to the same office twice. He was appointed master commissioner in 1883.


He married, in 1876, Lila Pendleton, of Upland, Penn., a daughter of Rev. J. M. and C. S. Pendleton, whose maiden name was Garnett. In 1872 Mr. Procter was made a mason. He and wife are members of the Baptist Church. He is one of the influential citizens of Warren County, and a man of sterling worth."
