Union Springs, Alabama. Wife of Alexander Edward Singleton.
Descendant of Lucas Powell and of Nathaniel Powell, of Virginia.
Daughter of James Lucas Powell and Frances Thompson, his wife.
Granddaughter of Norborne Burkeley Powell and Eliza Anne Holmes,
his wife.
Gr.-granddaughter of Nathaniel Powell and Elizabeth Cowper
Chamberlayne, his wife.
Gr.-gr.-granddaughter of Lucas Powell and Elizabeth Edwards, his
wife.
Lucas Powel, (1722-1811), was a member of the Committee of
Safety of Amherst county, Va., 1775.
Nathaniel Powell, (1762-1827), enlisted when a lad under Capt.
John Cropper, Ninth Virginia Regiment, and served until the
surrender of Cornwallis. He was born in Williamsburg, Va; died
in Lebanon, Tenn.
