Notes of Francis Wyne, of Charles County, Maryland:
Francis Wyne is first mentioned in the Maryland records in the
following items in "Land Office Patent Series" Liber 4: 584 as
Follows:
"5th October 1660 William Marshall Enters rights as followeth
Vizt. For Nicholas Grosse his transportation into this province
in Anno 1651 and one other right by assignment from Humphrey
Warren, and other right by assignment from Walter Beane which
assignments are as followth:
I do assign Mary Bennett to serve William Marshall from the
tenth day of December 1660 the full and just term of seven years
according to the Conditions of the Indenture. Witness my hand
this 20th day of February 1660

I Walter Beane do assign and sett over my whole right Title and
Interest of my Servant Francis Wyne unto William Marshall or his
assigns. Witness my hand 29th September 1660.

Other entries relating to Francis Wyne are found in Charles
County Court Proceedings in "Archives of Maryland, vol. liii:
"He was named as defendant in a suit at a court held 25
September 1661; witness on a power of attorney, dated 8 July
1662, from Thomas Stone to Edmond Lindsey; called a "cooper" in
an apprenticeship contract with Thomas Maris 3 Oct1662; a
"copper" also in assignment of a patent from William Codwell,
12May 1663. In a deposition, apparently dated 30 April 1664, but
at latest 5 April 1665, he gave his age as "thirty years or
thereabouts." On 25 April 1665 Francis Wine "Cooper" sells to
Henry Hawkins for 10,000 pounds of tobacco and caske 700 Acres
on the north side of the Potomac River and the West of the main
fresh of the Wicomoco."
In those proceedings as reported in "Archives of Maryland, Vol.
lx, Francis Wyne is mentioned in connection with two
transactions:
"The deed from Eliza. Emanson to Francis Wyne, dated 16 June
1671 was printed, and at a Court held 8 August 1671 Eliza.
Emanson Came & acknowledged to Francis Wine a parcel of land
"Glover's Poynt" in Nangemy Creeke as by Convey: hereafter
recorded may appeare. (CCLR E.45)
At a Court 10 Sept 1672 Francis Wyne Entreth this ensuing marke
of a mare given to his daughter, vizt, one flower delence on his
(sic) buttock.
He seems to have continued to prosper, for on 2 March 1679/80
this entry was made in "Land Office Patent" Liber WC#2: 100-101:
Came Francis Wyne of Charles County and prod. rights to Three
Hundred acres of Land for transporting George Goodman, Willm
Harbinger, Francis Herman, Elizabeth Ealor, and Mary Gubins into
this province to inhabit.
Warrant Then granted to Francis Wyne of Charles County for three
hundred acres and fifty acres of land three hundred acres
thereof are as aforegoing-fifty acres more due for transporting
Jno. Curtis into this province to inhabit.
Francis Wyne was twice married. By his first wife whose name is
not of record he had a son John Wyne, named in his Will.
Sometime before 1672 Francis married Elizabeth Holland, for on
10 September 1672 he caused to be entered the mark on the mare
he had give to his daughter. She was mentioned in his Will and
in her Mother's Will. In the latter she was designated as
Elizabeth Lewis of Great Britain.
When William Marshall made his Will 22 April 1673, he designated
Francis Wyne, whom he called "brother", one of his executors.
When Francis Wyne made his Will 14 November 1681, he owned two
properties in Northamptonshire which he devised equially to his
son Henry Wyne, then of London, and his daughter Elizabeth; and
nine tracts in Charles County, Maryland, totaling 1134 acres,
which he left to his son John Wyne. To Elizabeth (Holland) Wyne
was left the residuary estate, real and personal, and she was
named executrix. Francis Wyne's Will was proved 6 March 1682 in
"Maryland Will Book" Vol ii: 173."
"Francis Wine is first found in Maryland as a servant,
transported in 1660 (SK 4.584) his name appears in the Charles
County Court of 1661 (CCLR 1.164) and is shown in 1679 as
"Rights of Charles Co." (SK WC2.100-101). Beginning in 1663
several documents relate to assignment to Francis Wine for a
tract called Johnson's Towne on the North side of the Potomac
and West side of the main fresh of the Wicomico River. (CCLR
B.18, 120, 229, 230, 231, 232)

Morise of Portobacco, planter, bind myself to 2 years ending the
10th of October unto Francis Wine, cooper, to learn the trade
and be employed by the said Wine only in the trade of cooper and
to have Saturday afternoon to go where he pleases, returning
Monday morning by 9 o'clock; Francis Wine promises to pay him
1800# of tobacco and cask at the expiration of the first year
and 1800# at the end of the second year with a set of cooper
tools which is understood to be only tools necessary to set up

In the name of God Amen. I John Hart of the County of Henderson
and state of Kentucky do ordain this my last Will and Testament
revoking all others.
Item the 1st I give to my wife Patience Hart the following
negroes Prince, Signal, Ben, Squire & Lucy which is to be
intirely at her disposal during her life time. Which property
after her death shall be disposed of the following manner. Lucy
and her increas to be equally divided between Rhoda Hart and
Polly Hart. Ben and Squire to be equally divided between Thomas
Hart and John Hart.
Item 2. I give to my son Thomas Hart a negro Boy named Martin.
Item 3. I give to my son John Hart a negro boy named Hayden and
a Bed and furniture.
Item 4. I give to my daughter Rebecca Hart a negro Girl named
Harriet with a Bed and furniture.
Item 5. I give to my daughter {Rody (?)} Hart a negro Girl named
Hannah with a Bed and furniture with a good Saddle.
Item 6. I give to my daughter Polly Hart a negro Girl nameed
Melinda with a Bed and furniture and good Saddle.
Item 7. I give to my daughter Susanna Floyd one negro Girl named
Eliza a Bed and furniture and Saddle which is already in her
possession.
Item 8. I give to my two Grandsons John H. Standley and
Nathaniel G. Standley two negroes named Bartlett and Aggy which
negroes I purchased with their money and is to be taken in place
of said money when they arrive of full age.
Item 9. I give to my daughter Nancy Jordon a negro Boy Shelby in
addition to what I have already given her.
Item 10th. I give to my daughter Kiziah Sugg a negro Boy named
Prince Edward on her paying to Lucy Standley a balance due from
me to her of about Thirty Dollars.
Item 11th. I desire all my stock of every kind with the
plantation Tools Kitchen furniture with the plantation to remain
in possession of my wife Patience Hart her life time then is to
be entirelly at her disposal.
Item12th. After the death of my wife Patience Hart I desire my
land to be divided in the following manner. To run a line from
the creek through the center of the land and Thomas Hart to have
the South end and John J. Hart the other half.
Item 13th. I give all I own and intrest to a Legacy which is
coming to me after the death of my brother Lemuel Hart to my two
sons Thomas Hart and John Hart and their heirs.
Item14th. I do hereby appoint my two sons Thomas Hart and John
J. Hart my Executors to this my last Will and Testament. In
witness whereof I have set my hand and seal the 29th day of June
1821.
