Father: Gideon Harrison b 1762 in Rockingham Co. VA, son of
Capt. Daniel, Sr. d. 1838 Murfreesboro, TN. Rev Sol. Kings Mtn
Battle. Lived in Limestone Co. AL until abt 1828.
(Gideon could be father of Elizabeth Harrison wife of James
Harrison.)
Researchers have to work from top down as well as bottom up in
those cases where early records are sparse. It is often
necessary to construct an inferential genealogy. This means
collecting all records for a surname in a relevant geographical
area, weighing the circumstantial evidence when direct (by
historians' definition) evidence is lacking and picking the best
hypothesis.
Gideons' s possible son: Joseph m. Nancy Craig in Marysville,
Blount Co. TN, prob. dau of John Craig. They named a dau
Cynthia. Their son, Harvey m. Zilpha Bell in Limestone Co. AL.
In 1829 Joseph, Jesse & Harvey removed to Johnson Co. Mo.
Gideon moved same time to Rutherford Co. TN. Harvey became a
Judge and has a BIO in Johnson Co.
Jesse & family then moved to Cedar Co. MO, and Jesse's son,
Joseph & Martha Ann Randolph removed to Lawrence, Douglas Co. KS
in 1854. "Portrait & Bio Rec of Leavenworth, Douglas & Franklin
Cos. KS", 1899.
TN Ancestors, Vol 5, 1989, page 93. Jonesborough, TN, Gideon
Harrison voted at the elction for the county of Washington on
the third Friday and Saturday in Aug 1786.
Gideon served jury duty 1789-1790 in Greenville, TN; had land on
the Noluchuky River. Blount Co., TN was formed in 1798 from the
southern part of Greene Co., TN.
Possible Kin, likely Brothers or Children: Capt. Michael,
Jesse, Daniel, John, Gideon and Joseph removed to Madison Co. AL
in 1808 from E TN. Gideon, Joseph, & Daniel purchased 200 acres
each, the first land purchase in the new territory. Land was
located at the juncture of the Flint and TN Rivers. (any of
these could be the father of our James).
1809 special census, Madison Co. AL, p. 686;
Daniel-1m over 21, 1f under 21, 1f over 21.
Joseph-1m over 21, 1m under 21, 1f under 21 and 1f over 21.
Michael-7m over 21, 6f under 21, 3f over 21 and 2 slaves. (have
not been able to construct any children for this Michael. Obit
in Athens newspapers states she left four daughters, no names).
1816 Madison Co. MS Terr Census: Benjamin, Joseph, Mechail, and
Robert.
List of letters remaining in Huntsville Post Office, Jan 9,
1819: Robert, Charles S. & Gideon Harrison, George, John &
William Craig.
1820 Limestone Co. Al Census:
Joseph-1m (+21), 5m(-21), 1f (+21), 1f (-21).
John C-1m(+21), 1m(-21), 1f(+21), 3f(-21).
Jesse-1m(+21), 1f(+21), 2f(-21).
Gideon- 1m(+21), 1f(+21).
John-1m(+21), 1m(-21), 1f(+21).
James-1m(+21), 1m(-21), 1f(+21), 2f(-21).
Limestone Animals taken up:

above Thomas Malone's Mill, one bay filly, Aug 21, 1825. (Near
Mooresville) Appraised at $30 by John Harrison & Hugh Bell.

one mile above where the stage road crosses said creek leading
from Huntsville to Tuscumbia; one black steer, Nov 10, 1825,

Gideon moved to Murfeesboro TN abt 1827 and married Rhoda
Harrison in 1827, at age 68, both up in years. Three Harrison
girls joined the church that day under Rev. Eagleton. Both are
buried at Old Cumberland Presbyterian Church that was burned
during the Civil War. No markers.
