"Courthouse Records of Amherst, Recorded in Marriage Register #1 p. 226, Amherst County, Clerks Office, Amherst, Virginia. 12 June 1811. Joseph Wilshire Jr. & Joseph Willshire Senior are bound unto his excellency the Gov of the Commonwealth of Virginia for the sum of $150 12 June 1811. Whereas there is a marriage intended to be soluminized between the above bound Jos WIllshire Jr and Nancy Rutherford of Amherst County. If there be no legal courses to obstruct the marriage then this obligation to be void or else to remain in force. In presence of A B Davis. /s/ Joseph Willshire Jr & Jos Wilshire Snr. This is to certify that my daughter Nancy Rutherford is 20 years of age that I am willing that license should be issued /s/ Sarah (mark) Willshire. Wit: Lawson Willshire, Jos (mark) Willshire. Joseph Willshire Senr made oath that he saw Sarah Willshire sign the certificate."
