(sometimes referred to as ZACHARIAS WADE) came as an immigrant
to Maryland, was Executor and presumably the younger brother of
Dr. John Wade, Brother of Wm. Wade, Cecil, Warwickshire,
England. (Ref.:LAND PATENTS: Hall of Records, Annapolis,
Maryland) ZACHARY WADE was owner of extensive lands in the
Province of Maryland--in Charles, Talbot, Prince Georges, and
other counties. He first appeared on record as chosen to
represent New Town, Charles County, at the first Assembly of
Maryland, held at St. Leonard's Creek, April 7-20, 1657. Again
he held public office, from 1662 until his death in 1677, as one
of the "Gentlemen Justices" or Commissioner of Peace of Charles
County. He married Mary Hatton (died 1678) , daughter of Richard
and Margaret Hatton. Lands held by ZACHARY included 400 acres
called "WADE'S POINT" in Talbot County on the Eastern Shore of
Maryland, sold to William Leeds in 1665, At his death, he owned
various parcels of land totaling close to 3,000 acres as listed
in his will. There is a monument in Washington D.C. on 15th
Street between Constitution Avenue and East Street, erected by
the National Daughters of American Colonists, April 25, 1936,
"To the original patentees prior to 1700 whose land grants
embrace the site of the Federal City." The name of ZACHARY WADE
is among those listed, followed by the date, "1670." Will of
ZACHARY WADE (1627-1677) CHARLES COUNTY WILL BOOK 9, P.16:
ZACHARY WADE, CHARLES COUNTY., MD. 5 March 1677-25 May 1677 "To
eldest son, Richard and heirs, 550 acres Linne and Linnes
Enlargement; 400 acres Wadeson and Wadesons Enlargement, and
half of a 1050-acre tract called Locust Thicket being land
bought by testator and brother Randolph Hanson, from Thomas
Brooks. Also land at the head of Piscataway Creek. To son,
Robert and heirs, 600 acres, part of Market Overton; 500 acres
Forest Green; 350 acres Stony Harbour, on Piscataway Creek, and
200 acres, part of Friendship. To daughter, Theodosia Stone,
land on the eastern branch of Piscataway Creek taken up by
testator and brother, Luke Gardner. Also the remainder of Market
Overton, aforesaid. To Mary Hanson, personalty. To three
children aforesaid, residue of estate; should any die without
issue, survivor or
survivors to inherit deceased's portion. In event of death of
all children without issue, estate to be divided between
brother-in-law, Randolph Hanson's sons and William Hatton's
sons." Executors: Brother Randolph (Randall) Hanson, William
Hatton. ZACHARY WADE devised to his son, Zachary Wade the
following tracts: 500 acres called Linnes , 400 acres Wadeson,
and half of a tract of Locust Point, a tract of 1060 acres
bought with his brother-in-law, Randolph Hanson. References in
will to following lands: Piscataway Creek (in first paragraph)
must be the land called WADE'S ADVENTURE. Piscataway Creek (for
Theodosia Stone) must be a half of 780 acres called Good Luck or
Brother's Purchase. The "remainder" referred to for Theodosia
Stone would amount to 600 acres; Market Overton was 1200 acres,
and 600 acres were left to Robert, above. MISCELLANEOUS
