"His date of birth is contained in the William Edmunds bible record and on his tombstone which is located in the James Edmunds graveyard in Becton, Barren Co., KY. His date of death is engraved on his tombstone.

The story is that he was a Revolutionary War soldier and was present at the surrender of Lord Cornwallis. I have a record of the service of a James Edmunds, Private, in may 1777 in 6th Virginia Battalion of the Continental Forces, commanded by Lieut. Col. James Hendricks, in Capt. Nicholaas Hobson's company.

He likely lived in the part of Amherst Co., VA which was taken to form Nelson Co., VA in 1807. He moved to Barren Co., KY about 1810."
