"NOTE: It has been widely published that Richard Johns of King
William Co., VA was the son of Roger Johns of Northampton Co.,
VA. This is not believed to be true. There is no proof that
Roger Johns had children."
"In volume one of the Accomack County records (1637 - 1640), he
was ordered on pg. 166 to pay 600 lbs of tobacco to John Major.
On page167, he was ordered to pay John Scovell 666 lbs. of
tobacco. Also on page 167, the court found "Roger Johns damaged
by being excluded from his hired house" by John Major. Major was
ordered to return the rent and pay 100 lbs of tobacco in
damages. Further down on the same page: Roger Johns and Thomas
Wyatt ordered to pay John Major 1170 lbs. of tobacco due by
account.
Apparently in connection with the Johns/Majors "hired house"
affair, Thomas Wyatt gave a deposition that he came to the house
of Mr. Johns and found iron tools locking both doors. He says he
asked Mr. Major "why do you haveth my brother, Johns, goods" and
Major answered that Johns "had nothing to do with anything in
