Records of Surry Co., VA. show that Nicholas was the Clerk of
Surry Co., on April 22, 1655. He also was the Clerk of the
Virginia Council. Nicholas and Elizabeth Woodhouse Meriwether
had a family of 6 children, 4 sons and 2 daughters. Their 4th
child was Francis Meriwether who married 1st Mary Bathurst,
daughter of Lancelot Bathurst of Gloucester, England and his 2nd
wife Susan Rich. Hope that this is of some help to you.

William NEEDHAM , my eldest son, one negro boy called Charles;
also I leave and Bequeath
to Bayley NEEDHAM, my son, one negro boy called George, and one
hundred acres of land he now lives on, the south side of Deep
River, beginning at the mouth of Cedar Creek and running up the
said Creek with a conditional line made between himself and
Lewis NEEDHAM, and so running out for compliment. I also leave
and bequeath
to Lewis NEEDHAM, my son, one negro boy called Ned, and one
hundred acres of land on the south side of Deep River, beginning
at the mouth of Cedar Creek and running with the conditional
line between himself and Bailey, and so turning up the said
river north for compliment; I also leave and bequeath
to Garner NEEDHAM, my son, one negro boy called Peter, and one
hundred acres of land on the east side of Deep River, beginning
on James Whittle' s line, running east to Whittle's corner
thence south for compliment. I leave and bequeath
to Jesse NEEDHAM, my son, one negro boy called Ben, and one
hundred acres of land on the east side of Deep River, beginning
on the said river joining Garner NEEDHAM'S line, and
running down the said river and west for compliment: And I also
give and bequeath
to my Dearly Beloved Wife, Susanna NEEDHAM, the following
articles and such, that I do desire that my son William NEEDHAM,
may possess as his own property and fully receive the profits of
in order to justfully maintain and furnish her, his mother, with
all necessaries for the good support of her body during her
widow-hood, and then after that to be divided among all my
children--except the negroes.
These articles are then all my other lands except what I have
here above mentioned to my other sons, for them now a
settlement: Also five negroes, one negro woman called Allis, one
negro boy called Joseph, one negro gal called Else, one negro
boy called Abraham, one negro gal called Mary. And then after
her decease, or time of widowhood, these left in the hands of my
son William NEEDHAM to receive the fully profits to maintain or
support his mother during her life or widowhood, to be equally
divided among all my children, and negros to my daughters in the
manner and form following: I give and bequeath to
my dearly beloved daughter, Elizabeth Spinks, the negro woman
called Allis;
and also to my daughter, Susanna NEEDHAM, the negro gal called
Else, except in her increase and if it is God's Will that she
has children, for them to be equally divided among all my
children, that is her increase during the time of my son being
possessed with her.
I also give and Bequeath to Sarah NEEDHAM, my daughter, the
negro boy called Joseph;
I also give to my daughter, Martha NEEDHAM, the negro boy called
Abraham;
I leave to my daughter Ann NEEDHAM, the negro gal called Mary,
also the negro called Allis, her increase before her being
delivered to be divided equally among my.........

Michael Hart & Barbara, his wife...to John Needham of Orange Co.
NC for 11 pounds, hand paid, 200 acres, being in the upper end
of Cumberland County, begin at a white oak on the Earl of
Granville's line South, crossing the north fork of Bear Creek &
East to the beginning, on Earl of Granville's line. Michael Hart
(his mark) Wit: Robert Cochran, James Luthrain"
On 3 April 1771 (Pt. 16, Vol 4, 1770-1772 p305), John Needham of
Orange Co., planter, and his wife, sold this 200 acres for 24
pounds to Henry Gaster of Cumberland Co. Signed John Needham,
Susannah (X) Needham. Wit: Owen Carpenter, John I. Sheffield.
Guilford Co. Deeds, Vol I, Bk A 1771-1779, p352, 14 Mar 1775,
James Graves to John Needham, both of Guilford Co. for 120
pounds Graves sold Needham 300 acres of land lying in sd County
on both sides of Deep River.
On the 1779 tax list for Randolph Co., John Needham appears with
5170 acres in one tract and 144 in another. Thomas and William
Needham also appear, but with far less acreage.
Randolph Co. Deeds, 1779-1785, p58. 11 Nov 1783 Enoch Spinks to
John Needham, both of Randolph Co., for 80 pounds, 100 acres in
Randolph Co. beginning at the mouth of a branch formerly was a
mill seat at Fork Creek, and South to original line, formerly
Enoch Spinks Sr's line (inherited by Enoch Spinks Jr.).
Land Grants 1779-1786, Deed Bk 2, p249. Grant No. 335, 24 July

The petition of Enoch Spinks & Elizabeth his wife, John Needham
& Susannah his wife, Wm. Needham, John Needham, Bailey Needham,
Lewis Needham, Garner Needham and James Johnston & Sarah his
wife agst. Jesse Needham, Martha Needham, & Anne Needham,
Infants under the age of 21 years.
Your petitioners show unto your worship that John Needham late
of the County of Randolph was in his lifetime and at his death
seized and possessed of the following Tracts or parcels of land
(description covers 3 pages & is not included here)...and the
said John Needham being so siezed and possessed of the said land
and tenaments departed this life on or about the Seventeenth day
of December in the year one thousand seven hundred & ninety nine
Intestate leaving Eleven children viz: Elizabeth married to
Enoch Spinks; Susannah married to John Needham (__); William
Needham; John Needham; Bailey Needham; Lewis Needham; Garner
Needham; Sarah Needham married to James Johnston; Jesse Needham;
Martha Needham and Anne Needham to whom on the death of the said
John Intestate aforesaid the Lands & Tenaments descenda as
tenants in common and petitioners further show that no complete
division of the said land...hath taken place....

the same, 68 acres adjoining the same containing in the whole
