book titled: "My Wife's Family" by Noah H. Bradley of Powhatan Co., VA. On page 308 of this book there is some information on the Family of Nicholas Meriwether. Apparently Nicholas was born in 1631 in Wales and he married Elizabeth Woodhouse, the daughter of Captain Henry Woodhouse.

Records of Surry Co., VA. show that Nicholas was the Clerk of Surry Co., on April 22, 1655. He also was the Clerk of the Virginia Council. Nicholas and Elizabeth Woodhouse Meriwether had a family of 6 children, 4 sons and 2 daughters. Their 4th child was Francis Meriwether who married 1st Mary Bathurst, daughter of Lancelot Bathurst of Gloucester, England and his 2nd wife Susan Rich. Hope that this is of some help to you.

WILL OF JOHN NEEDHAM, SR. June 16, 1798 "In the name of God, Amen. I John NEEDHAM of Randolph County, in the State of North Carolina, being very sick and weak of body and knowing that it is allotted once for all men to die-- do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament - that is to say principally and first of all -- I recommend my Soul into the hands of God that gave it and my body to the earth to be buried in a decent Christian manner at the discretion of my Executors, nothing douting, but at the general Resurrection to reserve the same by the Mighty Power of God. And as touching my worldly Estate wherewith it has
pleased God to Bless me with; I leave and bequeath the same in the manner and form following; that is to say -- First of all I leave and Bequeath to

William NEEDHAM , my eldest son, one negro boy called Charles; also I leave and Bequeath

to Bayley NEEDHAM, my son, one negro boy called George, and one hundred acres of land he now lives on, the south side of Deep River, beginning at the mouth of Cedar Creek and running up the said Creek with a conditional line made between himself and Lewis NEEDHAM, and so running out for compliment. These articles are then all my other lands except what I have here above mentioned to my other sons, for them now a settlement: Also five negroes, one negro woman called Allis, one negro boy called Joseph, one negro gal called Else, one negro boy called Abraham, one negro gal called Mary. And then after her decease, or time of widowhood, these left in the hands of my son William NEEDHAM to receive the fully profits to maintain or support his mother during her life or widowhood, to be equally divided among all my children, and negros to my daughters in the manner and form following: I give and bequeath to

my dearly beloved daughter, Elizabeth Spinks, the negro woman called Allis;

and also to my daughter, Susanna NEEDHAM, the negro gal called Else, except in her increase and if it is God's Will that she has children, for them to be equally divided among all my children, that is her increase during the time of my son being possessed with her.
