Notes

"He succeeded his brother Gilbert, as 6th Baron Talbot in 1419. This John Talbot became the 1st Earl of Shrewsbury, known as the RENOWNED SIR JOHN TALBOT, one of the most illustrious characters in the whole range of English history.
He was summoned to Parliament as Lord Talbot of Furnival from 26 Oct 1409 to 26 Nov 1421. In 1412 he was Chief Justice of Ireland. In 1414 he was Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. He subsequently distinguished himself in the wars of Henry V, but his splendid reputation was acquired under the Regent John Plantagenet, Duke of Bedford in the time of Henry VI, when his name alone became terrible to the soldiers of France, owing to the numerous victories he had achieved. His lordship was attached however by Joan of Arc, the Maid of Orleans near Petay in 1429, when his army was entirely routed and he was taken prisoner. This defeat of Lord Talbot was followed by the loss of divers places of importance to the English. His lordship was detained in captivity for no less than four years, but obtained, at length, his freedom by the payment of a large sum of money, and in exchange for Ambrose de Lore, eminent Captain of the French.
Again taking the field, and again becoming renowned for his triumphs, and at the height of his career and in consideration of those eminent services, he was granted on 20 May 1422 the Earldom of Shrewsbury, nomen et honorem comitis Salop. After this he was Ambassador to France in 1443, and Lord Lieutenant of Ireland in 1445. Created Earl of Wexford, and Waterford in Ireland; grant of the Barony of Dungarven; General of the Fleet in 1452. He was killed at the Battle of Chastillion.
He married first, Maud, daugh. and co-heir of Sir Thomas Nevill, her mother being Joane, daugh. of William Lord Furnival. Born to Gilbert and Maud was Thomas who died in the lifetime of his father; John (his successor) and Christopher.
He married second, Margaret de Beauchamp and had John, Humphrey and Lewis."

John Talbot 1st Earl Of Shrewsbury and Margaret Beauchamp had the following children
1 John Talbot 1st Baron Lisle
2 Sir Humphrey Talbot
3 Sir Lewis Talbot Of Penyard
4 Joan Talbot
5 Elizabeth Talbot
