There was no funding or police force to keep Caucasian settlers
out! They came and they settled! They harrassed the Indians,
including John's family. John & family moved to NC. & shortly
moved back. It appears that John's children had Indian features,
were probably dark skinned! Eventually, John & family moved to
Spanish West Florida (Louisiana) in 1808, apparently landing at
Bayou Sara on the Miss. River where his nephew, Isaac Brumfield
was a land agent!
They moved, perhap in short moves, to the Tchefuncte River, abt
7 miles North of Folsom, La. Sons Ezekiel & Ridley claimed
sections of land there. Ezekiel died a soldier after the Batttle
of New Orleans, & Ridley died before the 1830 Census. After
that, the Brumfields (Broomfields) sort of split up.
Widow Susannah Statham Broomfield moved, with some of her
children to Rankin Co.Ms
Son Cornelius "Neely" Broomfield raised a large family there.
Son Charles S. Broomfield moved to Oldfield, Livingston Parish,
La, & raised a family.
Dau. Margaret Frances m. _____ Croft, & moved to West Texas,
raised a family there.
Son George W. Broomfield married in Ms. & in 1853 moved to
Goliad Co. Texas, raised a family there.
A descendent Alvin Broomfield was Fire Chief in San Bernadino( I
think it was) Ca. in the 1950's Still collecting data on those
who moved West!
Still collecting data on those who moved West! I'm getting
tired, making lots of typing mistakes. don't remember where you
fit in here. Lots more to tell here- proof is hard to come by.
The Indians tended to live in round dwellings, and caucasians
tended to live in rectangular houses.
Mrs. Haidee Reeves was decended from both the part Indian line
and the all Caucasian line of Brumfields.
She told of a female ancestor who had a proposal of marriage.
She accepted, with the condition tht the suitor build her a
cabin with a wood floor instead of the packed earth floor that
some couples had! The cabin with the wood floor ws built, they
married, had a family!
Later I'll go back and see if I can find where you fit in! Take
Care!
SWincerely Cousin Al
Albert R. Brumfield
