| News/Obit* | after 2 June 2001 | Betty L. Burkholder, 68, of Scottdale RD1, passed away Saturday morning, June 2, 2001, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. Betty was born in Washington, Ind., Nov. 30, 1932, a daughter of the late Otho and Phyllis M. Moore Zinkin. She married Richard J. Burkholder on Jan. 23, 1970. Betty was a devoted and fun-loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister to her family and friends. She was dedicated to her work as a health care employee and nurse's aide at the Harmon House Convalescent Center, Mt. Pleasant, for many years and was formerly employed as a care giver to the mentally challenged in Connellsville. Betty also served as the area's Avon lady. She was affiliated with the Solid Rock Church and the Trinity Episcopal Church, both in Connellsville, and supported church fund raisers with her many home baked goods. She was an avid blood donor, achieving the five-gallon level with the American Red Cross Bloodmobile. She also led a very active life as a member of the Go-Getters Bowling League and the Scottdale B.P.O. Elks Lodge #777 Dartball League. Betty enjoyed reading, traveling, baking, and her flower gardens. Betty is survived by her loving family; her husband of 31 years, Richard J. "Rick" Burkholder; her four sons, the Rev. Mark Van Bibber and wife, Ginger, of Connellsville; Bruce Van Bibber and wife, Janet, of Travis Air Force Base, Calif; Eric Van Bibber and wife, Misty, of Columbus, Ga.; and Lance Burkholder of Scottdale; her 10 grandchildren, Kirsten Small and husband, Chris; Nathan Van Bibber; Jadyn Van Bibber; Brian Van Bibber and wife, Heather; Chris, Chad, Bradley, Andrew, Michael and Charlie Breann Van Bibber; her two great- grandchildren, Elijah Small and Aaron Van Bibber; four sisters, Beverly Killian and husband, Ray, of Chillicothe, I11., Phyllis Meeker and husband, Melvin, of Seymour, Ind., June Pendley and husband, Larry, of West Baden Springs, Ind., and Rosie Costin of Mooresville, Ind.; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her son, Keith Van Bibber, in January 1997. Betty will be sadly missed by her family and her many friends. Grave side committal services and interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Bullskin Township.1 |
