Born May 10, 1958 in Washington, PA, he was the son of Edwin and Margaret (Moore) Goughenour of Eighty-Four, PA. John received his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from the University of California. He recently retired from Highmark where he had worked nearly 28 years as Supervisor of the Command Center. John was an active member of Pine Street Presbyterian Church in Harrisburg and frequently volunteered his time for Downtown Daily Bread. He was also a member of the West Shore Elks Lodge and the Quentin Riding Club. An avid world traveler, John focused this passion into beginning his own company in retirement, "Classic Tours for the Travel Connoisseur." Surviving in addition to his parents is his son, John Christopher Goughenour of Mechanicsburg; his brother, Scott Goughenour of Drums, PA; his sister, Kelly Thomas and husband Sean of Canonsburg, PA; his nephew, Matthew Thomas and his niece, Cara Goughenour ; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Dr. Bethany Ellen Goughenour , and by his partner, Lamar Gilchrist. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, June 30 at Malpezzi Funeral Home, 8 Market Plaza Way, Mechanicsburg. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, June 29 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Burial will take place in Shamokin Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Bethany E.
