| News/Obit* | 11 November 2005 | W. Russell Rohrer Union Township resident W. Russell Rohrer , 84, of 2150 Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Edinburg, died at 3:21 a.m. Nov. 10, 2005, in Jameson Hospital. Born in New Castle on Sept. 15, 1921, to the late Karl T. and Caroline Ziegler Rohrer , Mr. Rohrer was an engineer working at Karl T. Rohrer Contracting before becoming a structural and design engineer for the Wesex Corp. of West Middlesex, from which he retired. He is survived by his wife, the former June Kain, whom he married on Sept. 17, 1947. He is also survived by two daughters, Karla R. Snyder of Mercer and Tricia M. Warren of New Castle; one son, Richard K. Rohrer of Hermitage; two sisters, Vivian Menning and Margery Strohecker of New Castle; and six grandchildren. Mr. Rohrer was raised in the former Harbor United Presbyterian Church and belonged to the Shenango Presbyterian Church, where he has served as an elder, deacon, Bible study leader and Sunday school teacher. He graduated from Geneva College in 1943, where he received his degree in engineering. He was a World War II veteran, having served as an officer in the Merchant Marine and graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Marine Academy, where he received an engineer of vessels license. He served in the Atlantic theater of war. Mr. Rohrer also was awarded the Silver Beaver Award from the French Creek Council, Boy Scouts of America, and was the scout master for 25 years of Troop 25 in New Castle. He was a former Union Township Planning Board member and led the Bible study classes for 35 years at the Lawrence County correctional facility. Visitation will be observed from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Turner-Myers Funeral Home, 208, N. Jefferson St. Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and will be conducted by the Rev. Harold "Bud" Green of the Shenango Presbyterian Church.
