Ione R. Lenhart, 84, of Frederick, Md., died Sunday at the home of her daughter in Frederick.

Born in Hazle Brook, Jan. 27, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Anna Kollesar Racho.

She was a 1937 graduate of Hazleton High School and attended Hixson's School of Floral Design in Lakewood, Ohio.

Mrs. Lenhart was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Frederick, and the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Court 278, Catholic Daughters of America. She was also a member of the Green Walled Garden Club and a had completed a course of study in the Federated Garden Clubs of Maryland Landscape Design School.

She was well known for her English boxwood and dogwood gardens at her Kline Boulevard home in Frederick for 43 years.

In early years, Mrs. Lenhart worked as an assistant resident inspector of ordinance material, for the Everedy Company in Frederick from 1943-1944. She also worked for a number of years with James Avery Clark Floral Distributors, Frederick.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband of 53 years, Lt. Col. Warren Talmadge Lenhart, USAF retired, June 30, 1999; brothers and sisters, Andrew Racho, Elizabeth Skernolis, Anna Knoblaugh, Joseph Raco, John Racho, Mary Chunko, Margaret Maxwell, Michael Racho and Stephen Racho.

Surviving are her daughter, Stephanie I. Ayersman, and husband, Donald, of Frederick; one son, Gerald W. Lenhart, Mechanicsville, Va.; one granddaughter, Jennifer I. Steier and husband, Vincent J., Sykesville; two great-granddaughters, Hannah Ione Steier, and Hailey Grace Steier, and a third great-grandchild due in March; one brother, George Racho, Hazleton; one sister, Ethel Adams, Longs, S.C., and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is also remembered by devoted friends of 47 years, Col. and Mrs. Alfred Green, Rockville, Md.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday from St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 118 E. Second St., Frederick, Md. The Rev. Wayne G. Funk, will be the celebrant.

Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.

The Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick, Md., 21701-5404 is in charge of funeral arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, Md., 21702-1799.
