DEATH OF MRS. W. G. WATERS

Mrs. Celia Waters, wife of Dr. W. C. Waters, died at the family residence in Otsego last Thursday, after a long illness. For a number years she was a resident of this place and was respected by all that knew her. In the fall of 1893 she removed to Cardington, O., where ill health soon compelled her to leave. She then removed to Otsego at which place her health improved for a short time but it was only temporarily. The deceased was nearly 51 years of age. A husband, Dr. W. C. Waters and two children, H. W. Waters and Mrs. Shirer, wife of Dr. J. G. Shirer are left to mourn their irreparable loss. Funeral services were conducted Saturday forenoon at the Otsego M. O. church by Rev. S. T. Allen of this place.

The following obituary written by her pastor shows her christian character.

OBITUARY

On Thursday evening, June 22, 1899, at 4 o'clock the spirit of Celia A. Waters took its flight to the Eternal Mansion. She had been afflicted with melancholy for four years, during the last six months she suffered most extremely, longing for the Messenger to come and release her.

Mrs. Waters was the youngest of the seven children of Jason and Jane Barnard and was born August 23, 1848. She was united in marriage with Dr. W. C. Waters in October 1866. Of this union one son and one daughter were given. The daughter is the wife of Dr. J. G. Shirer. Sister Waters united with the Methodist Protestant church at the Union Chapel appointment, Otsego circuit, in 1872 under the pastorate of Rev. Thomas Orr, of which denomination she has ever remained a faithful and earnest christian, except a short period that she affiliated with the M. E. church when too far removed from her own. She spent some years of her life in Adamsville while her husband was located there and removed from there to Cardington, O., but owing to her afflication her husband returned to Otsego with her, where she could be among her near kin. But, although the most skilled physicians were consulted and money freely sacrificed by her ever watchful husband; the most kindly care of husband, daughter, son and friends was lavished upon her, they could not stay the destroyer's hand. She leaves a broken hearted husband, daughter and son. Also five sisters, Mrs. Robert Waters, Mrs. Jerome Waters, Mrs. Decatur Buker, Mrs. Charles Buker, sr., and Mrs. Jane Ross and one brother, as the immediate mourners, and a host of friends, as was manifested at her funeral. We laid her wasted body away in Otsego cemetery after a religious service in the church on Saturday, June 21, by Rev. S. T. Allen, with the full assurance that "there will be no night there," Rev. 22-5. May the whole family and kindred continue as they have started and enjoy everlastingly the sweet and eternal rest with Celia.

S. T. Allen, Pastor
