Samuel Griffin of New Castle County on Delaware, Planter, etc., by Thomas Hale Street, MC, USN, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 1905. This Samuel died in 1720, leaving 2 sons, William and James. Samuel may be the father of our James.
James Griffin I, was born about 1650, and died about 1716, in Nansemond County, Virginia. His wife was Sarah ---.
James Griffin II, the son of James I, and Sarah Griffin, who owned land in 1700 in Nancemond County, Virginia; in 1717 Catherine Creek called Merherrin Neck, and 1717 Chowan Precinct, North Carolina.
James died 1748 in Chowan, North Carolina.

He was married out of unity, to Alice __.

John Griffin, son of James and Sarah Griffin, was married 8 December 1744 to Elizabeth Henley (or Henby)
He died in 1770. His will was dated June 1770, and proved in April Court 1772, including Jesse and Stepdaughters Mary Perry and Sarah Perry

It was reported 6 June 1770, that he had married Hannah Kenyon, who was probably related to Joab and Elizabeth Kenyou of Old Neck, Perquimans County, North Carolina.
He died 1788.

Amos Griffin, son of James Griffin, Jr and Alice. On 4 December 1765, it was reported he had married Elizabeth Welsh.

Esther Griffin, daughter of William Griffin and Hannah Winslow, was born 19 September 1762.
She was married 24 September 1783, to Josiah Copeland, born 22 March 1759, son of Joseph and Sarah Copeland.
