Part II - Toms (Tomes) Family
Francis Toms Sr., was born 2 March 1633, and died on 3d 4mo 1712, in Perquimans County, North Carolina.
He was married/1 about 1669, to Priscilla Nicholson, who died about 1680, the mother of his 7 oldest children. Priscilla may have been born in England, perhaps related to Edmund Nicholson.
He was married/2 6 January 1683, to Abigale Bailey, born before 1645, daughter of William Bailey. (She was the widow of William Charles, with 9 children. (See Charles Family, Part II) & widow of John Lury.
Abigale died 17 March 1687; she and her four oldest children died within a few months of each other.
Francis was married/3 to Mary Nicholson, daughter of John Nicholson. Francis Toms died 2 September 1729; his will was probated 6 October 1729.
The older children were born in Virginia, and the youngest one, in Perquimans County, North Carolina.
Children:
Francis Toms Jr, son of Francis Toms Sr and Priscilla Nicholson, was born 19 September 1672, in Virginia.
He was married/1 8 June 1696 to Margaret Bogue, born about 1670 in Scotland, daughter of William Bogue and Jane Clare. (See Bogue Family, Part IV)
Margaret was the widow of William Larance, with 2 small daughters. She died before 1722.
William Larance, son of William Larance and Rachel Welsh, was born 20 July 1661, died 13 August 1694.
Children:
On 5 June 1722, Francis Toms Jr. married/2 Rebecca Pierce, who was born 9 June 1680, daughter of John Pierce & Mary Scott. Apparently Rebecca had no children.
Francis Toms Jr. was married/3 1 November 1734, probably in Perquimans County North Carolina, to Rebecca Nixon, born 11 6m 1715, in Perquimans County, daughter of Zachariah Nixon and Elizabeth Symons. (See Nixon Family, Part II)
Children:
James Elliott, son of Miriam Winslow and Solomon Elliott, married a Sarah Toms, daughter of John Toms
Foster Toms had a daughter Martha Toms, who was married 3 May 1793, in Perquimans County North Carolina to Zachariah Nixon (6) who was born 10 March 1778
Elizabeth Toms married Thomas White, had a son Benjamin White.
