Generation 5

John Louis I, was born February 1591, Monmouthshire, Wales, and died 21 August 1657, in New Kent Virginia. He was married 3 February 1610, in in Liantillo Pertholey, Monmoutshire, Wales, to Johane.

  4. John Lewis II, born in Liantillo Pertholey, Monmoutshire, Wales, in 1633

Generation 4.

John Lewis II, son of John Lewis I and Johane, was born December 1633, in Liantillo Pertholey, Monmoutshire, Wales, and died 1689, in New Kent, New Kent County, Virginia.

He was married to Isabella Miller who was born 24 August 1640, and died 9 February 1704, in New Kent Virginia.

She was the oldest child of James and Mary Miller. Their other children were Isabella, James Jr. Edward, Elizabeth and Augustina.

Children:

  1. Mary Lewis, born about 1665, Virginia, died after 1690

  2. Edward Lewis, born 5 September 1667, Virginia, died 11 February 1713

  3. Elizabeth Lewis, born about 1668, Virginia, died after 1699

  4. John Lewis III, Colonel, born 30 November 1669, in New Kent, New Kent County, Virginia, and died 14 November 1725, in Warner Hall, Gloucester County, Virginia.

  5. William Lewis, born about 1670

  6. Nicholas Lewis II, born about 1671, Virginia, died about 1699

  7. David Lewis, born about 1672, Virginia, died about 1725

  8. Zachary Lewis, born about 1673

Generation 3.

David Lewis, son of John Lewis and Elizabeth Warner, was born 14 December 1694, in Pychyawaxon, Charles County, Maryland, and died in 1773, in North Carolina. He was married to Mary Crawford, of English descent.

Devisees and legatees: John Shepard ("plantation whereon I now dwell known by the name of Indian Town"), William Shepard (plantation known as Glover's Hammock), David Shepard, John Simmons, Daniel, James and Benjamin Simmons, Richard Shepard. One hundred pounds is bequeathed toward building a church in Beaufort. Wife and Executrix: Mary.
Generation 2.

John Lewis Sr., son of David Lewis and Mary Crawford, was born about 1720 in Frederick County, Virginia. He died 10 June 1802, in Randolph County, North Carolina, buried Bornsburg Cemetery, Wayne County, Indiana. He was married about 1746 to Pricilla Brooks.

Generation 1.

John Lewis Jr., son of John Lewis and Pricilla Brooks, was born 9 March 1765, in Randolph County, North Carolina.

He was married on 15 March 1781, to Sarah Ruckman, of German descent, who was born 23 March 1761, Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

Sarah was the daughter of Joseph Ruckman, who was born about 1711, Guilford County, North Carolina, and died 3 November 1792, in Randolph County, North Carolina; He was married 20 September 1751 to Sarah White, who was born 4 December 1717, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, and died 21 June 1795, Guilford County, North Carolina.

John Jr, and Sarah, their family, their eldest son, Richard Lewis, and his family, were the first settlers of Green Township, in Wayne County, Indiana, in August 1810, and purchased public lands at the first sale. John Jr. was not a member of any church. Sarah died 20 September 1847, Wayne County Indiana.

  1. Hannah Lewis, born 18 January 1782, Randolph County, North Carolina, died 19 October 1865 married J-3. Thomas E. Lamb, son of Jacob Lamb-Sarah Stone (See Lamb Family, Part II)

  2. Richard W Lewis, born 1784, North Carolina; died 26 November 1819

  3. Sarah (Sally) Lewis, born 19 July 1787, North Carolina, died November 1842

  4. Isaiah Lewis, born 26 December 1789, in North Carolina, died in 1789

  5. John Lewis, born 6 Jan 1792, died 1792

  6. Joseph Lewis, born 6 February 1794, North Carolina, died 4 March 1883

  7. Naomi Lewis, born 1796, North Carolina, died 14 may 1870

  8. Martha Lewis, born 12 January 1799, North Carolina, died 17 May 1827

  9. Priscilla Lewis, born 31 July 1801

  12. Allen West Lewis, born 14 June 1809, the only living member of his family, at the time the History of Wayne County, Indiana was written on 14 June 1765. He married Lucy T Hollingsworth; they had at least 1 son

      1. William Addison Lewis, was born 16 October 1851, in Wayne County, Indiana. He was married 15 January 1874, to Ella Edwards, daughter of Thomas Edwards and Jane Study of Williamsburg, Wayne County, Indiana. William and Ella had a good farm in Green Township, Wayne County. A member of Williamsburg Lodge, No 493, he was aligned with the Greenback party. 1 child
