Part II - Charles Family







1. William Charles

It is not known when the Charles and Balie families arrived in America, although William Charles, (born before 1640,) and Abigail Bailie, (born before 1645, in Rhode Island), were married (no date given) by Mr. Jefuery, magistrate in "Rode Island." Her father was William Bailie, who was born about 1619.

They removed to Perquimans County, North Carolina, 1677, where he died on 6 August of that year.

Abigail married/2 (no date given) to John Lary (Lury-Lacy) by a magistrate, Deputis to the Duke of Albemarle, and after his death on 4 December 1682, she married Francis Toms, on 2 March (May) 1683, and had another child. (See Toms Family, Part II). She died 17 March 1687, North Carolina. She and her four oldest children died within a few months of each other.

  2. Daniel Charles, born 24 September 1666, died 17 August 1687; unmarried

  3. John Charles, born 22 November 1668; unmarried

  4. Jane Charles, born 20 January 1670, died 1688; will, dated 11 July 1688

  5. Elizabeth Charles, born 8 January 1672/3; married/1 16 December 1688 to Samuel Nicholson, son of Christopher Nicholson and Hannah Rednap (See Nicholson Family, Part II) married/2 10 June 1729 to Zachariah Nixon; died before January Court 1748 (See Nixon Family, Part II)

  6. Samuel Charles, Sr, born 22 March 1674
  7. Isake Charles, born 12 March 1676

  8. Joanna Charles, born 11 October 1677





11. William Charles, Jr

William Charles, Jr, son of William Charles Sr. and Abigail Bailie, was born 13 July 1661.

He was married 8 November 1683 to Elizabeth Kent, who was born 1 June 1667, Perquimans County, North Carolina, daughter of Thomas (died 2 June 1678) and Ann Kent.

William’s will was dated 7 April 1687, and probated 28 September 1687; Elizabeth was married/2 on 11 August 1687 to John Long.

16. Samuel Charles Sr.

Samuel Charles Sr., son of William Charles (1) and Abigail Bailie, was born 22 March 1674.

He was married 6 October 1696 to Elisabeth Morrison, daughter of John Morrison. His will was dated 12 March 1727/8

164. Samuel Charles Jr.

Samuel Charles Jr, son of Samuel Charles Sr. and Elizabeth Morrison, was born 20 August 1703. He was married 5da 7mo 1722, to Hannah Davis.

165. John Charles, Sr.

John Charles, Sr, son of Samuel Charles Sr and Elizabeth Morrison, was born 22 December 1705. His wife was Mary __

Children:

  1. William Charles (3), born 27 May 1738; married Jane (Jean) Albertson, born 20 October 1735, daughter of Nathaniel Albertson & Abigail Nicholson; Will proved January 1771 (See Albertson Family, Part II)
