The Dossett Family
Note: The Dossett family was strong in passing along family names. Some are odd, like Ila (often spelled Illi, Ala, Illes, Iley, etc and Elbert). The root of Elbert is unknown but Ila is passed down directly from the Forrester family.>
William Dossett was born 1760 in Orange County, Cubb Island, North Carolina. He married Drucilla Forrester who was born in 1763 in Orange County, North Carolina
William died before 1820.
Drucilla died after 1840 in Orange County, North Carolina.

Ila Dossett was born 1785 in North Carolina, died 1840 in Lincoln County, Tennessee.
He was married 10 November 1809 to Mary (Polly) Holland, born 22 November 1794, in Roane County, Tennessee.

William Illes Dossett, son of Ila Dossett and Mary Holland, was born 1810 in either Roane County, Tennessee where his parents were married or Lincoln County, Tennessee where his parents relocated to by 1820
He was married in 1839 to Nancy Stevens, who was born between 1811-1820 in either Illinois or Tennessee. Her younger siblings were born in Illinois. William Ila Dossett (3), states his mother was born in Illinois in the 1880 census. However, his 1900 census says she was born in Tennessee. His sister, Mary Ann Dossett, states their mother was born in Illinois.
William came to the area of Pope, Illinois about 1832, served in Iollinois Mounted Vols. as a Private in the Black Hawk War. He married Nancy Stevens, 7 August 1834 in Pope, Illinois. He acquired land in Hardin County, Illinois, of which the 4 orphaned children inherited, each were named.
William died between 1842 and 1850.
Nancy died before 1850 in Hardin County, Illinois.

James Holland Dossett, son of Ila Dossett and Mary Holland, was born 1822 in Lincoln County Tennessee.
He was married to Nancy Leeper, who born 1808 in Maurey Tennessee. They both died after 1870 in Hardin County, Illinois.
Nancy was the widow of Richard Hughs and older than James Holland Dossett. She first married Richard Hughs who died before 1840; Nancy lived a couple of houses away from Wiliam Dossett in 1840 census and appears to be a widow at this time.
James died March of 1879, Hardin Co. Illinois. Nancy died 19 October 1870, Cave In Rock, Hardin County Illinois

William Illes (Ila) Dossett, son of William Illes Dossett (2) and Nancy Stevens, was born 28 October 1840 in Cavinrock, Hardin County, Illinois.
He married Dosha Ann Palmer, who was born 10 June 1843 in Elizabethtown, Hardin County Illinois, daughter of Vardinlan Palmer and Catherine Jackson.
Dosha died 29 January 1897 in Uncas Kay County, Oklahoma Territory. William died 26 October 1926 in Uncas Kay County, Oklahoma. They are both buried in Ponca City, Oklahoma.
