Part I - Hezekiah Lamb and Hannah Small
Family Group "M"

Mary Angeline Lamb
and
James Judkins Shriver

Mary Angeline Lamb, daughter of Hezekiah Lamb and Hannah Small, was born after June in 1857, in Dallas County, Iowa. She was married 30 November 1879, Riverton, Iowa, to James Judkins Shriver, who was born in 1848, in Guernsey, Ohio, the son of Adam Shriver and his wife Martha Judkins. (See: Part I Shriver Family)

When Angie and James were first married they farmed near Todd Creek, Johnson County, Nebraska, according to the 1880 Census, with yet no children. The 1890 Census is missing.

They went to the Oklahoma Indian Territory, to find better circumstances. James Judkins Shriver hauled freight for the U.S. Government in the Oklahoma Indian Territory.

Hannah kept a letter written by James, during his struggles. The date is not clear, but would have to be before Angie died in 1894. She was approximately 37 years old, and was buried in the Spring Grove Cemetery, in Anthony, Kansas. This may be because James was still unsettled, and Angie’s sister, Naomi, offered the space in their own family plot.

Anthony is near the Oklahoma border, and not far from where James was. James lived with his son Adam Hale and family on Chestnut St., in Ponca City, Oklahoma for a short time before his death on 3 April 1921, in Tonkawa, Oklahoma. James was buried beside Angie.

Mr. and Mrs. H. Lamb, respected father and mother

Naomi sent me your letter. I was glad to hear you was well. Flossie also sent John’s letter. I will let the little girls come to you as soon I can, but I have not money enough at present to send them, and I don’t know whether they can go alone, or not, if I had. We have had bad luck since we came south, but I think I can get land here yet. I am about 125 miles south of Anthony at present on the Rock Island road. I am hauling freight for the government to Fort Sill. There is more work here than any place I have been. Crops was good here, corn is 35 cts per bu. Hale and me have the grip but are getting better. When I am settled I want my children, but I know you can do better for them, than I can, and that is my sole object in life, to do the best I can for them. I would do as Angie requested and try to get close to you, but crops are too uncertain in Jewell County, Tell John I thank him for the interest he takes in the welfare of the children. This is all I can think of at present.

Write soon as you get this

Direct to Rush Springs, Ind Ter your son
