The county seat of Jefferson County is Boulder which is located in Southwestern  Montana.  Jefferson County was created in 1865 as one of the 9 original counties in Montana. Part of Jefferson was taken to form Broadwater County in 1897. It is one of the smallest original counties in Montana.
