    IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN upon the Sixteenth day of July in the third year of the now Matier Reigne Anne and 1691 I Margaret Spencer of Ramsgate in the parish of St Laurence in the Isle of Thannett in the County of Kent Widow do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner following

    First I give to Margaret Spencer my daughter Fifty Pounds of lawful English money which I desire my Executors hereafter named to put out all interest for her and the use and profits thereof to go towards her maintenance and bringing up
    Also I give to my said daughter Margaret my sixteenth part of the Pinke whereof my brother Adam Spencer goes Master and also four of my biggest and best rings
    Also all the residue of my parts of vessells whatsoever I give and bequeath to my two youngest sons William and Adam equally between them and my will is in case the profits of the said parts be not sufficient to bring up my said two sons then and in such case my said Executors shall have power to sell and dispose of some of the said parts as they shall see occasion
    Also all the residue of my goods and chattels whatsoever I give and bequeath to my four sons Nicholas Silvester William and Adam equally to be divided between them
    Also I make and ordain my loving brothers Adam Abbitt William Spencer and Adam Spencer Executors of this my last will and Testament

    In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal Dated the day and year first above written MARGARET SPENCER her mark

    IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN

    I Nicholas Spencer of Ramsgate in the Isle of Thannett in the County of Kent Marriner being now bound to Sea being well in body and of sound and perfect mind and memory praise therefore be given to Almighty God Do make and ordain this my present Last will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say FIRST I will and commend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God hoping through the only merits of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to have full and free pardon and forgiveness of all my Sins and to inherit everlasting Life and my Body I commit to the Earth, to be buried at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named, and as touching the disposition of all such Temporal Estate as it hath pleased God to bestow upon me I dispose thereof as followeth :

    FIRST I will that my Debts and funeral Expenses shall first be paid and discharged to all intents and purposes whatsoever;

    Item I give and devise unto my loving Sister Margaret Spencer, Adam Spencer, Silvester Spencer and William Spencer all my Lands and Tenements Houses Edifices Structure Barns Stables Outhoiuses Yards Orchards Gardens Backsides lying in Ramsgate in the Isle of Thannett in the county of Kent and all my Right of Title thereto equally to be divided on condition that they or either of them shall pay Thirty Pounds and interest costs and charges on a judgment given by me to Alexander Long Senr of St Lawrence in the county of Kent and Isle of Thannett

    All the rest and residue of my real or personal Estate Goods Wages Effects Debts Bills Bonds Household stuff Plate Rings Jewells Sum and Sumes of Money and Chattels whatsoever or by me hereby devised I do give and bequeath unto my loving friend and Sister Margaret Spencer and I do name and constitute the said Alexander Long whom I do make ��.. full and Sole Executor of this my Last Will and Testament and do hereby revoke annul and make void all former Wills and Testaments by me heretofore made

    In the name of God Amen
    I, Sylvester Spencer, late of Romans Gate in the Isle of Thanet in the Couty of Kent in the Kingdom of England, mariner, but now of Boston in New England being in perfect health of body and sound mind and ?disposing memory do considering my mortality that I am now bound to sea and know not when or whether I shall return to England I make this my Last Will and Testament
    First I will that my debts be paid and my funeral expenses discharged and then will, devise and bequeath all my real estate houses lands tenements chattels plate situate and being in Romans Gate aforesaid unto my good and kind friend Mr George Long of Romans Gate aforesaid husband unto my dear sister Margaret Spencer their heirs and assigns forever and do hereby constitute and appoint Captain Robert Parker of Romas Gate aforesaid executor of this my will to whom I give and bequeath one guinea to buy him a mourning ring Hereby I do also revoke all former and other wills by me heretofore made and in witness whereof the said Sylvester Spencer have hereunto set my hand and seal this twentyfifth day of November Anno seventeen hundred ----- Sylvester Spencer signed sealed published and --- in the presence of us: Joseph Maplen, Robert Joy & John Valentine

  • This Indenture made the Sixth day of Aprill in ye third Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lady Anne by the grace of God Queen of England Scotland France and Ireland Defender of the faith &c Annoque Domini 1704 Between Georg Long of Ramsgate in the Parish of St Lawrence in the Isle of Thanet in the County of Kent Mariner and Margaret his Wife of the One Part And Silvester Spencer of Ramsgate aforesaid Mariner and William Spencer of the same place Mariner of the other Part Witnesseth That the said Georg Long and Margaret his Wife for and in Consideration of the Sum of Seventeen Pounds of Lawfull English Money to them the said Georg Long and Margaret his Wife in hand well and truly paid by the said Silverster Spencer and the said William Spencer at or before the Ensealing and Delivery hereof The receipt whereof of the said Georg Long and Margaret his Wife doe hereby acknowledge and thereof and every part thereof doe acquitt and discharge the said Silvester Spencer and William Spencer their and either and every of their Heirs and Assignes Executors and Administrators and every of them by these Presents Have Bargained and Sold Granted Alliened Released and Confirmed virtue of a bargain and sale to them made of the One Sixteenth part of the Messuages and Lands herein after mentioned by the said Georg Long and Margaret his Wife by Indenture bearing date the day before the date of these Presents and by force of the Statute for transferring uses into possession All That One Sixteenth part the same in Sixteen parts to be divided of all and every those Five Messuages or Tenements Orchards Gardens Yards and Lands to them and either of them belonging and of all ways easements profits and commodities to the said Five Messuages or Tenements belonging or in any wise appertaining or therewith used letten occupyed with their and every of their appurtenances all which said Messuages or Tenements are situate and being in Ramsgate aforesaid and the said One Sixteenth part of the said Messuages or Tenements were lately given and devised to the said Margaret the Wife of the said Georg Long in and by the last Will and Testament of Nicholas Spencer and now and in the occupation of William David Mathew Giles John Keble Cuthbert Farley and Thomas Rowlan or their or some of their assignes And the Reversion and Reversions Remainder and Remainders of all and singular the premises and all the full and whole Estate Right Title Interest use possession Inheritance Claim and Demand whatsoever of them the said Georg Long and Margaret his Wife or either of them of or to the same premises and every part and parcell thereof and all writings and Evidences concerning the same premises only or only any part thereof To have and to hold all and singular the said One Sixteenth part of the said Five Messuages or Tenements Lands and premises hereby bargained and Sold or hereby mentioned meant and intended to be bargained and sold released and Conveyed and every part and parcell thereof with the appurtenances unto the said Silvester Spencer and William Spencer and to their respective heirs and assignes equally between them To the only use and behoof of the said Silvester Spencer and William Spencer and of their respective heirs and assignes equally between them for ever of the chief Lord and Lords of the Fee thereof to be holden for and under the Rents and Services to him or them due and of right accustomed And the said Georg Long and Margaret his Wife for themselves and their respective heirs the said One Sixteenth part of the said Five Messuages and of their respective Lands and premises with the appurtenances unto the said Silvester Spencer and William Spencer their respective heirs and assignes to them their and every of their own use and behoof against all Men Shall and will warrant and for ever defend by these Presents And for themselves their joynt and several heirs Executors and administrators doe Covenant and grant to and with the said Silvester Spencer and the said William Spencer and their respective heirs and assignes Executors and administrators by these Presents That they the said Georg Long and Margaret his Wife at the time and ensealing and delivery of these Presents (for and notwithstanding any act deed or thing by them the said Georg Long and Margaret his Wife or by either of them or by any other person or persons claiming by or under him her or them done committed or wittingly or willingly suffered to the contrary) are Lawfully and rightfully Seized of and in the said One Sixteenth part of the said Five Messuages or Tenements Lands and premises with the appurtenances of a good sure perfect and absolute and indefeasible Estate of inheritance in Fee Simple to the only use of themselves and of their heirs without any manner of Condition or Limitation of Estate or estates limitation of use or uses possibility of revocation or trust whatsoever to alter change determine defeat incumber or affect their said Estate therein And that they have full power good right and Lawfull authority in their own right to Convey Release and Confirm the said One Sixteenth part of the said Five Messuages Lands and premises (notwithstanding any such act or thing done or suffered to the contrary as aforesaid) at all times from and after the ensealing and executing of these Presents Shall remain continue and be according to the Estate and Uses hereby limitted and appointed and the true intent and meaning of these Presents Free and Clear and freely and clearly acquitted and discharged of and from all and all manner of former and other Bargains Sales Gifts Grants Leases Rights Titles Joyntures Dowers Annuities Rent-charges Rent-seck Mortgages Statute Merchant and of the Staple Recognizances Judgements Extents Issues Seizures Forfeitures Troubles Charges Burthens and Incumbrances whatsoever And Lastly That they the said Georg Long and Margaret his Wife and their and either of theirs Heirs shall and will at all times hereafter by and during the space of Twenty years next ensuing the date of these Presents upon the reasonable request and requests and at the Costs and Charges in the Law of the said Silvester Spencer and William Spencer their or either of their heirs or assignes make doe acknowledge levy execute and suffer all and every such further and other reasonable act and acts Device and Devices Assurance and Assurances in the Law whatsoever for the further and better strengthening suremaking Confirming and Conveying sething and assuring all and every of the One Sixteenth part of the said Five Messuages Lands and premises with their and every of their appurtenances unto and upon the said Silvester Spencer and the said William Spencer their respective heirs and assignes to their and either of their own use and behoof for ever Bee it by Feoffment Release Bargain and Sale to be inrolled Fine or Fines Recovery or Recoveries with single double or more Vouthers or by all or any the said ways or means or by any other Lawfull ways or means whatsoever as by the said Silvester Spencer or the said William Spencer their or either of their heirs or assignes or their or either of their Counsell learned in the Law shall be reasonably Devised Advised or Required In Witness whereof the said Parties to these Presents their Hands and Seals Interchangeably have hereunto   • This is the last Will and Testament of me William Spencer of Ramsgate in the Isle of Thanet in the County of Kent Mariner & being at the making and executing thereof of sound disposing mind and memory First I give and bequeath to my son Nicolas Spencer fifty pounds of lawful money of Great Britain and if he my said son shall happen to die before me my will is that the said Legacy of fifty pounds shall not lapse but shall go to his legal representatives and I so order the same to be paid within twelve months next after my decease

    Also I give and devise unto my son Adam Spencer all that my messuage or tenement with the Kitchen yard Backside Garden Ground and all and every the rights privileges and appurtenances whatsoever thereunto belonging or therewith used or enjoyed situate and being in Ramsgate aforesaid in or near a certain street there called the North End adjoining to the messuage or tenement next herein after mentioned and late in the occupation of my said son Nicholas Spencer but now untenanted to hold unto my said son Adam Spencer and his assigns for and during the term of his natural life and from and immediately after his decease I give and devise the said messuage Kitchen yard Backside Garden Ground and premises unto my two Grandsons William Spencer and Silvester Spencer Sons of my late son William Spencer deceased equally to be divided between them my said grandsons and to their heirs and assigns for ever to hold as tenants in common and not as joint tenants

    Also I give and devise unto my son Edward Spencer his heirs and assigns for ever all that my Messuage or Tenement with the Kitchen yard Backside garden Ground and all and every the rights privileges and appurtenances whatsoever thereunto belonging or therewith used and enjoyed situate and being in or near the said street called the North End in Ramsgate aforesaid adjoining to the said first mentioned Messuage or Tenement and now or late in the tenure or occupation of him the said Edward Spencer or his assigns

    Also I give and bequeath unto my daughter Margaret Grainger widow the sum of one hundred and fifty pounds of lawful money of Great Britain to be paid within twelve months next after my decease and if my said daughter Margaret Grainger shall happen to die before me then my will is that the said legacy of one hundred and fifty pounds shall not lapse but shall in such case go and be paid to her legal representatives within the said twelve months after my decease

    I give and devise unto my daughter Mary Tomson widow her heirs and assigns for ever all that my one full and equal third part of and in our annuity or yearly rent charge of Seven Pounds and ten shillings of lawful money of Great Britain yearly issuing out of a certain messuage or tenement Brewhouse Barn Stable Farm lands Hereditaments and premises situate lying and being in Ramsgate aforesaid and in the parish of Saint Laurence in the said Isle of Thanet now or late in the tenure or occupation of Thomas Tomson or his assigns which said third part of and in the said annuity & lately purchased of Lewis Tomson now deceased the late Husband of my said daughter Mary Tomson

    And I give and bequeath to my said two grandsons William Spencer and Silvester Spencer equally to be divided between them share and share alike one eight part of the ship called the Mary whereof my said Grandson William Spencer is Master and one eight part of the Tackle Appurtenances and stock for this ships use which shall be belonging to the said ship at the time of my Decease

    And also I give and bequeath unto all and every such children of my said son Nicholas Spencer as shall be living at my Decease equally to be divided amongst them share and share alike one eighth part of the ship called the Greyhound whereof my said son Adam Spencer is Master and one eighth part of the Tackle Appurtenances and stock for this ships use which shall be belonging to the said ship Greyhound at the time of my Decease and my will is that the receipts of the said children of my said son Nicholas Spencer or any of them from time to time be good and sufficient discharge to the persons paying the same for all monies to become out to them or any of them respectively on account of the said ship by virtue of this said bequest to them notwithstanding they or any of them may happen to be under the age of twenty one years

    I also give and bequeath to my Granddaughter Ann Spencer daughter of my said son Adam Spencer one other Eighth part of the said ship Greyhound and of the Tackle Appurtenances and stock for the ships use that which shall be belonging to the said ship at my Decease I

    Also give and bequeath to all and every such children of my said son Edward Spencer as shall be living at my Decease equally to be divided amongst them share and share alike one eighth part of the ship called the Tiger whereof he my said son Edward Spencer is Master and one Eighth part of the Tackle Appurtenances and stock for the ships use which shall be belonging to the said ship at the time of my Decease and my will is that the Receipt of the said children of my said son Edward Spencer or any of them shall from time to time be good and sufficient discharges to the persons paying the same for all monies to become due to them or any of them respectively on account of the said ship Tiger by virtue of the said bequest to them not withstanding they or any of them may then happen to be under the age of twenty one years

    I also give and bequeath unto Executrix hereinaft named and her Executors and administrators one other eighth part of the said ship Greyhound herein before mentioned and one Eighth part of the Tackle Appurtenances and stock for the ships use which shall be belonging to the same ship at my decease upon trust to receive all such dividends and monies as shall from time to time become due and payable and be paid for and in respect of the last mentioned Eighth part and to pay and apply the same towards the Maintenance and bringing up of my Granddaughter Elizabeth Spencer daughter of my late son John Spencer deceased or otherwise for her use and Benefit at the Discretion of my said Executrix her Executors or Administrators until my said Grand daughter Elizabeth Spencer shall attain the age of twenty one years and then upon trust to assign pay and deliver to her my said Granddaughter Elizabeth Spencerto and for her own use and benefit the said last mentioned Eighth part and all such of the said dividends and monies as shall not be so applied as aforesaid and my will is that the Receipts of my said executrix her Executors or Administrators shall from time to time during the minority of my said Granddaughter Elizabeth Spencer be sufficient Discharges to the person or persons paying the same for all such monies as shall become due for and in respect of the said last mentioned Eight part of the said ship Greyhound But if she the said Elizabeth Spencer shall happen to die before her Attainment to the said age of Twenty One years then my will is that my said Executrix and her Executors and Administrators shall stand possessed of the same Eighth part and all such dividends and monies arising thereby as shall not be so applied as aforesaid in Trust for all and every the Children of my said son Nicholas Spencer equally to be divided amongst them share and share alike

    Also I give and bequeath unto such of the children of my said daughter Margaret Grainger as shall be living at my Decease one other eighth part of the said ship Tiger and of the Tackle Appurtenances and stock for the ships use which shall be belonging to same ship at my decease and my will is that the Receipts of the said children of my said daughter Margaret Grainger or any of them shall from time to time shall be sufficient discharges to the persons paying the same for all monies to become due to them or any of them respectively on account of the said ship Tiger by virtue of the said Bequest to them notwithstanding any of them may happen to be under the age of twenty one years

    Also I give and devise unto my Granddaughter Elizabeth Tomson only child of my said daughter Tomson All that my messuage or tenement with the ground and all and every the rights privileges and appurtenances thereunto belonging or therewith used and enjoyed situate and being in Ramsgate aforesaid in or near two certain streets there called the Brickstreet and the South End (being a corner house adjoining to both the said streets) and now or late in the tenure or occupation of William Adams his Assigns to hold to my said granddaughter Elizabeth Tomson her heirs and assigns for ever provided nevertheless that if she shall happen to die before her attainment to the age of twenty one years then the said last mentioned messuage and premises shall immediately after such her decease go and I do accordingly give and devise the same unto my said daughter Mary Tomson her heirs and assigns for ever

    And also I give and bequeath unto my said granddaughter Elizabeth Tomson one eighth part of the said ship Tiger and of the Tackle Appurtenances and stock for the ships use which shall be belonging to the same ship at my decease but my will is that during her minority the dividends income and profits thereof shall be received and be applied to her use by my said daughter Mary Tomson at her Discretion any that the receipts of her my said daughter Mary Tomson shall from time to time until my said granddaughter Elizabeth Tomson shall the age of twenty one years be sufficient discharges to the persons paying the same for all Moneys to become due on account of the said ship Tiger by virtue of the said bequest herein last before contained  

    And I give and devise unto my daughter Sarah Spencer Spinster her heirs and assigns for ever All and singular my Messuages Lands Tenements Hereditaments and real Estate whatsoever situate in Ramsgate aforesaid or elsewhere in the said county of Kent not herein before by me other wise devised and disposed of And as for and remaining all such monies securities for money plate Linen apparel Household furniture parts of ships goods chattels effects and personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever as at the time of my decease I shall be possessed of or entitled to other than except what I have herein before otherwise given and disposed of I give and bequeath the same and every part thereof (subject to the payment thereout of all my just debts) unto my said daughter Sarah Spencer And for preventing any doubt or dispute in regard to my Meaning containing the several parts (herein particularly bequested) of the stock which shall be belonging to the ships herein before particularly mentioned at my decease I do hereby desire my will and mind to be that my said daughter Sarah Spencer shall have and receive to her own use (as part of the said residue of my personal estate) and I do accordingly give and bequeath to her all such sum and sums of money as at my decease shall be due coming or belonging to me for my part or parts of the earnings and stock in hand of this said ships respectively (save as except only such part of the said stock as shall be necessary and as is usual to be kept and retained in the hands of the Masters for the repairing or other immediate use and service of the said ships respectively) any thing herein contained to the contrary notwithstanding And I so constitute and appoint her my said daughter Sarah Spencer sole Executrix of this my last will and testament and so hereby revoke all former will by me made In Witness I the SaidWilliam Spencer the Testator have to this my last will and testament contained in four sheets of paper affixed together to the first three sheets thereof set my hand and to this forth and last sheet thereof my hand and seal the twenty first day of March in the year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and Fifty Seven William Spencer Signed and sealed by the Testator William Spencer and by him published and declared as and for his last will and Testament in the presence of us Witnesses hereof who have here subscribed our names in the said Testators presence William Adams John Gray John Fagg.
