Josephine Besson (nee Loyer) & Eugene Viard

    marriage 28 Jun 1888
    Marseille, France

On this document it's written :
Josephine, Pauline, Nancy Loyer, unemployed, born in Paris on the 3rd of february 1837, living in Marseille, rue des Recolettes N 21, daughter of George Jean-Baptiste Loyer deceased and Marie Anne Desvignes deceased, with a private income, widowed in Rochefort (Jura), the 3rd of may 1878 of Theophile Besson, notary.
You'll note she signed P J N Besson ne Loyer

Because Theophile Besson is dead in Rochefort, a small town very close to Dole. I think he's probably a brother or a cousin of Joseph Besson (my ancestor), who's born in Dole in 1829.

    Desvignes family

Several men named Peter Hubert Desvignes lived in London c1750-1850. No definite link could be found between them, nor to Elise Hubert Desvignes (father of the architect & engineeer, yet another Peter Hubert Desvignes).
Now thanks to Bruno & Daniel, we know Peter Hubert, Elise Hubert & Gabriel Desvignes were brothers, and we have some clues to further family ties.

    Below are some family details.

    Will of Gabriel Desvignes
    courtesy of Bruno

I found the Georges Besson / Margaret Loyer's marriage contract in the French National Archieves Department in Paris.
In the same folder, I found the Gabriel Desvignes' will. He died in Paris - 26/03/1857
I don't know who this man was but he bequeathed a lot of thing and money to the following persons.
I wrote down their names and the family ties as they were mentionned in this document.

    - Marie-Anne Desvignes (married with Geoges Loyer in London - 29/09/1830 - Cleakenwell) - Gabriel Desvignes niece
    - Louise Despinou/Desvignes (married with Frederick Kidman Parkinson in London - Saint James - 18/05/1848 and lived in Brixton in 1857) - Marie-Anne Desvignes' first cousin
    - Jeanne Chertier (married with Louis Daniel in Paris - 11/09/1824) - Marie-Anne Desvignes' first cousin
    - Geoges Desvignes (who lived in Brixton in 1857) - Jeanne Chertier's first cousin
    - Louise Desvignes (married with Robert Toll and lived in Brixton in 1857) - Jeanne Chertier's first cousin
    - Caroline Desvignes (maried with Martin Alepson in London - 31/01/1843)
    - Peter Hubert Desvignes - Engineer
    - Thomas Desvignes
    - Pierre Beauvais (married with Jeanne Didier (Jeanne Chertier's cousin) - Gabriel Desvignes' nephew
    - Marguerite Desvignes - Jeanne Chertier's aunt
    - Elisabeth Desvignes - grand-mother
    - Emile Didier - Jeanne Chertier's cousin
    - Armand Didier - Jeanne Chertier's cousin

Gabriel Desvignes bequeathed some money to a protestant school in Paris as well

    also

I re-read my notes about Gabriel's Desvignes will and saw that he left 6000 francs to Hubertine Swift. When I discovered this document many years ago, I didn't know that Hubertine Swift was Louise Desvignes' sister. I forgot to say, he gave also - 2500 francs to Jenny Boudon - Delaunay - His shotgun to Alix Desgrange - A bright button to Madame Desforge (maybe his dressmaker)

After Gabriel Desvignes death, a notary draw up the inventory of his personal goods. In this document, are mentionned : - One stere of wood - A lof of share certificats to a value of more than 1 500 000 francs - A lot of bottles of wine (red, white, Champagne) - A lot of furnitures (curios, clothes, and jewels, including a watch chiselled with gold).
