    Ef Daggett`s Memoirs: Shelby Co., Library/Museum p.40:
"I was in town at this hanging. A troop of men, some half drunk went with Sheriff Alfred George to arrest Mr. JOSEPH HALL. I was summoned to go along. Alfred George privately told me to watch Lee Truitt, a cousin of the Truitts previously mentioned, for he feared Lee had been put up to kill Hall. This was a judiscious warning so George and myself, after the arrest, rode one on either side of Hall. Truitt had to ride in the brush and in that way Hall got to town and was taken to DEAL (Dial) Hotel run by his relations. The excitement was high when Hall got to the Hotel. He (Hall) declared William`s confession was all false, and he appealed to every reasonable man to look at the thing reasonably. He said that he had been against Bradley and had not spoken to him for years, that he had never seen Seekers(?) or Williams that he had remembered. He had never known who killed his brother (Samuel) as his brother was liable to get into quarrels he knew. After his brother was killed he knew that he and Runnels had a fuss about hogs getting into the field".
