Bellefontaine, was once known as Berryhill town.  Bellefontaine was established in about 1830. 

The name Berryhill town was taken from the many families of Berryhills living in the community.

In the early days Grenada was the nearest market town for Webster and adjoining citizens. The dim road leading to the town went by Bellefontaine. At the road junction with Bellefontaine a huge bell was placed high in the air and rung every hour as a guide for travelers.  The open saloon furnished people with an ample supply of whisky. 

It has been said that the name Bellefontaine derived from “Belle” used in remembrance of the “guide bell” and “Fontaine” as a symbol for the open salon.
