In "Yalobusha County History, Page F233, Article F382, mention is made that
"...a Jehu Cotter MURRAY married as his first wife, Mary BRISTER, the
daughter of a Methodist Minister in the New Albany area."
My interest lies in who Mary Brister's father was, but I thought that if I
started with Jehu Cotter MURRAY, I might be able to back into who Mary's
father was. After looking through many web pages, I am unable to find Jehu
Cotter MURRAY. Might anyone who reads this have any information on "Jehu
Cotter MURRAY" or his wife, Mary BRISTER? Any particulars you might have on him, Mary or (in particular) Mary's father would be most appreciated.
Thank you very much,  Dennis K. Boswell, 301 Crow Canyon Dr.,Folsom, CA 95630-2057

MCILHANEY, GIBSON
I'm seeking information about my great-great-great-grandfather James William
MCILHANEY. I'm especially interested in learning of his parents, his
siblings (if any), date and location of immigration, and birthplace. I have
included much of what I know about him below. I am willing to share info
about him and his descendants. Thank you.
James William MCILHANEY (aka MCELHANEY aka MCILHINEY), parents unknown, was born about 1795, probably in Ireland. He married Mary Jane GIBSON, maybe in Kentucky or Tennessee, date unknown. I believe she was the daughter of Jesse GIBSON and Elizabeth PHARMLEY, and that she was born 10 March 1803 in Kentucky or Tennessee.
James may have immigrated to the U.S. as a young man, but I do not know
whether he came in a family group or by himself. I am told he is listed on
the 1830 census for Henderson County, Tennessee, with a wife and three
girls. He apparently left Henderson County about 1834 and bought land in
Tippah County, Mississippi in 1830s and/or early 1840s. He appears on the
1850 census of Tippah County with his wife, Jane, 4 daughters, and 3 sons.
Approximately 1853, he moved his family to Texas, settling in Coryell
County. James and Mary Jane were charter members of the Baptist church in
Coryell. James died in December 1869 when he drowned while crossing a
swollen creek in Coryell County.
The children of James William and Mary Jane (GIBSON) McIlhaney included:
i. Margaret MCILHANEY, born 1829 in Tennessee, died 1878,
married William WIGGINS.ii. Catherine MCILHANEY, born 1830 in Tennessee, died in ?,married Jesse JAMES.iii. Rebecca Jane MCILHANEY, born 1834 in Tennessee, died 1912 in Texas, married Ephraim Parmley GIBSON.iv. Minerva Ann MCILHANEY, born 1837 in Mississippi, died 1868 in ?, married Isham A. JOHNSON.v. William James Gibson MCILHANEY, born 8 May 1839 in Tippah County, Mississippi, died 30 July 1904 in Coryell County, Texas, married Mary Charlesann Elizabeth "Mollie" CARTER in Austin, Texas.vi. Randle H. MCILHANEY, born 1842, died 1863 at Camp Douglas, Illinois.vii. Henry Clay MCILHANEY, born 1844 in Mississippi, died 1863 in LittleRock, Arkansas.

LEE / SPENCER / HAMILTON
I am seeking information on the ancestors of my great-grandmother, Minerva Lee Hamilton.  Her parents were Granville Lee and Margaret Spencer.  Her
grandfather was John Spencer.  I believe that her mother may have married a
Waldron after Granville Lee's death since she had a half-brother named Harp
Waldron.  There is a Granville Lee (son of Strother and Catherine) in the 1850
census.  Granville Lee died in 1867 (found this in your "Cemeteries of Tippah
County').  I would like to confirm that this was the Granville Lee who was
married to Margaret Spencer. My great-grandmother, Minerva Lee Hamilton (1862-1957), lived to be 95 and there were several newspaper articles about her in the New Albany, MS newspaper. She was born in 1862 in the Mt. Olivet community--part of Tippah County at that time.  According to another newspaper article, her mother, Margaret Spencer, came to the Mt. Olivet community from South Carolina by ox-wagon train in 1840. Minerva Lee married Samuel Christopher Hamilton in 1881 and moved to New Albany, MS after his death in 1918.  Prior to that, she lived in the Mt. Olivet community all of her life except for a few years in Tennessee (Saulsbury,I believe)when she was a child. I would appreciate any suggestions or assistance in putting the pieces of this Lee/Spencer/Hamilton puzzle together.

GAILLARD
Looking for any information at all about  the Rev. THEODORE GAILLARD
and/or or his son, the Rev. JAMES HILLHOUSE GAILLARD.
Theodore  was born in the Charleston area of South Carolina in 1790, the
son of Charles GAILLARD and Ann DuPRE.  About 1819 he married (possibly his second wife) ELIZABETH GARNIER DuPRE (b. 1797 in SC, d. 1882 in Tippah Co., MS). daughter of Benjamin DuPRE' and Mary Ann McCLELLAN of South Carolina.  According to family tradition, Theodore was a minister of the Gospel (probably Presbyterian) and moved his family from South Carolina to Mississippi to serve as a circuit-riding pastor.  (We haverecently learned that the family may have made a stop of a few years in
Tennesee prior to coming to Mississippi.)    Theodore had eleven
children. We are trying to complete a tree for Theodore's granddaughter, VIRGINIA WEISS LEWIS, who will be 97 years old in April.
She is anxious to know about her Mississippi GAILLARD family.  Thank you
for ANY information you can offer! Susan Wyatt, Georgia, USA
