DAVENPORT
It appears Samuel and Jane Davenport moved to Tippah around 1843. Daughter Rebecca Elizabeth was born,1843 in Tippah. There is an Elizabeth Davenport who married Thomas Clark in 1860 in Tippah. George W. Davenport married Amanda Leming, Nov 1, 1860. George was later killed, May 1, 1862 in the Battle of Chattanoga(A Company, 34 Inf.) Can you confirm Elizabeth's marriage and can you tell me where they moved and when. Any info on Samuel and Jane would be helpful Thanks, Jim Davenport. P.O. Box 104, Broadalbin, NY 12025

DAVIS
John Davis b. abt. 1816 d. Nov. 2, 1878, married to Sarah ? b. abt. 1818 d. ? John and Sarah Davis had 5 children. Lawson Bedford Davis b. 1837 d. 1912, Marshall Davis b. abt. 1838 d. ?, Lelta Davis b. abt. 1842 d. ?, Martha Davis, b. abt. 1843 d. ?, Mildred Davis b. abt. 1846 d. ? According to an old family bible, this family was living near "Ruckensville", Tippah County, MS when the 1850 Census was taken. There is a note in the bible saying that the information on this family was recorded on page 243 of the original census. The handwriting is said to be that of Lawson Bedford Davis. "Ruckensville" was probably Ruckersville.
This family migrated to Tippah County from SC. In 1860, Lawson Davis was back in SC. He married Mary Louisa McDowell, of Spartanburg County in 1860. They lived in old York County, now Cherokee County. In 1862, he was in Columbia SC, and enlisted in Co. I, The Palmetto Guards. This unit was a part of The Army of Northern Virginia. There are two family stories about L.B. Davis going to war. One is that his wife, Louisa rode on horseback, a distance of about 25 miles to her Mother's home, with their 14 day old son, when L.B. left for the war. The other is that L.B. Davis was captured by Union soldiers in Mid 1863, and spent the last 1 1/2 years of the war as a POW in Illinois. He and Louisa returned to their home after the war. They are buried at Macedonia Baptist Church in Cherokee County, SC.
Having learned these bits of information, I am hoping that someone from Tippah County will recognize some of the names of L.B.'s parents or siblings. I now believe that L.B. returned to SC after the death of his mother. His father and siblings probably remained in Tippah County. Was Sarah's last name Westbrook? Were John and Sarah from Newberry County, SC? Was John's father named Thomas Davis? Did John have a 2nd wife and other children?
Any information or stories about any of these family members and/or descendants will be much appreciated.
