BURKHALTER, GOLDEN posted by Sandi Craighea on Thursday, November 1, 2001: I am researching a Tallahatchie County, MS family who appeared in Charleston tax records as early as 1841. Specifically, I am looking for anyone who has data on Dionysius and Eliza Ann (Golden) Burkhalter. I know that Dionysius was born in 1802 in Edgefield, SC to Jeremiah and Lydia (Stevens) Burkhalter. I know he died in Charleston, MS in 1855. He married Eliza Ann Golden in 1837, but not sure where. I also believe that Eliza was a second or third wife. I know she was the mother of the 4 daughters who appeared with them on the 1850 Tallahatchie census: Mary Elizabeth, Ann H. (who married John B.Sutton in 1857), Amanda Jane, and Martha S. Reuben Golden, who I believe was Eliza Ann's father, also was noted in their household. I also suspect that Dionysius' oldest children by a first wife were named: Abraham C., Alexander S., William F., Isaac, and Perry Burkhalter. William F. and Isaac, the oldest sons, married in 1836 and 1838, respectively, in Bibb County, AL. I can not find this Burkhalter family in AL or MS in the 1840 census. I am trying to confirm what I have and learn anything new about them, especially where they were in 1840. Lastly, I am trying to determine what was the connection, if any, of this Burkhalter family with the Burkhalters of Covington County, MS. Help from anyone else out there is greatly appreciated.

We know his father Perry Arnold Shook was married several times. Now here is the order we believe the wives went 1. Mary Smith 22 Jul 1940 2. Margaret Louise Sataten 5 May 1943 and they had a child named Rita Darnell Shook. 3. Allie Smith unknown marriage date 4. Florence Sanders Unknown marriage date 5. Susan V Wilson this is the last wife and Noah's mother. We are not sure but we think that Noah's grandfather was Noah Alexander Shook who was also married several times but not sure to whom. We think Noah's grandmother is Modie Eva Denley. If correct she had Perry and Howard and we also believe she was the mother to Violet who died at young age. Perry had an half brother named Douglas(not to sure if this information is correct). Now if Noah Alexander Shook is right then Noah Wayne great grandfather would be Noah Shook who was married to Ellen N Shook. Can anyone tell me who these people are Noah Shook SR. and Noah A Shook Jr. Noah Shook, Noah A Shook are they the same person. I know I make no since but I have come across this and I am lost.
