Sunflower County query I am looking
for info on Jerry Sledge. He was my grandfather and was born in 1880. He
had at least one brother (name unknown) who had a son named Nathan. Nathan
passed away in 1997 and his widow can't tell me any info about his ancestors.
I believe that some more of my grandfather's nephews live in or around Indianola.
I was told that one of them used to have a car dealership and one owns a
motel. I don't know any names though. I was told this by Jerry's son Earl.
Jerry married Molly Whisenant. I can't find anyone that knows Jerry's parents.
Any info would be appreciated. COLEMAN / CALDWELL I am looking for any historical information
about my grandparents, Daniel Thomas COLEMAN (7-1-1900 to 12-19-1966) married
Anna Bell CALDWELL (1899 to 1975) on 1-31-1918 in Sunflower County by Rev.
W.S. Shepman (spelling may vary.) ROBBINS / ROBINS / WILEY I believe I have found my g-g-grandfather,
George W. Robbins/Robins (age 17) living with the Richard and James Moffit
families in the 1850 census of Sunflower Co. A William Robbins/Robins (age
10) was living nearby with the William Moffit family. I suspect they may be
orphans of a female Moffit family member who married a Robbins. I am
having a hard time tracing where these Robbins came from and who George's
parents are. George W. Robbins b. abt 1843 in MS married Elizabeth Ann Looney
Wiley b. abt 1843 in Alabama shortly before her family moved to Noxubee ,
MS and they supposedly married at the Sunflower County Courthouse (McNutt?)
on March 19, 1859. He was in the Civil War in Co. F, 30th MS from May 9,
1862 until as late as May 10, 1864. During his service he caught "Swamp Fever"
(Malaria). He died during a malaria attack in July 1881 in Arcola, Washington,
County, MS and was buried there. After his death his whole family moved to
Oklahoma (then Choctaw Nation area of Indian Territory) and there are many
descendants there and in East Texas. Elizabeth Ann Looney Wiley's parents
were William W. Wiley and Sarah M.? who were born in Alabama about 1822 and
1825 and moved to Noxubee County, MS about 1845 although there seemed to
be a lot of travel back and forth over the border since later children are
listed as being born in both states. William W. Wiley and his family were
listed as living i! n Sunflower County in the 1870 c ensus as family number
360 with George Robbins and his family as family no. 118. HICKMAN

I am researching my family tree, and
have run into a dead end. My grandfather changed his name and it is hard
to track him. He lived in Anguillal, or Moorhead MS from probably around
1927-1937. I am not really sure of the duration, because I really am not
sure when he passed away. I am not sure what he did for a living. His name
was George Dodd, his wifes name was either Emma, or Emmer. I need
to find this man to prove that he was my grandfather. We think we know who
his father was, but without finding George, we can not be sure. any help
from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Toni GRIFFIN / GAMBRELL / WOOLAM Would appreciate any information about
my great-grandparents, James Thomas Griffin (1850-1881) and Hattie
Newell Smith Griffin (1853-1939) or of her second husband, Stewart
Gambrell. Though I have a brief memory of my grandmother Gambrel,
I thank the Lord my mother took the time to hand copy a newspaper clipping.
It should remind us all to keep records for our descendants. The following
was copied by Nancy Newel McGuire Woolam from a newspaper clipping
in her parents family bible in the 1930's. The family home and bible were
later destroyed by fire. "James T. Griffin, son of Thomas Griffin, formerly
a citizen of Pontotoc Co., died in Sunflower Co., Mississippi on October
10, 1881 of Malarial Fever in the 31st year of his age. Mr. Griffin leaves
a wife and four small children besides a large circle of relatives and friends,
who deeply mourn his loss. It can truly be said of James Griffin that none
knew him but to love and respect him for his many deeds of kindness and friendship
to those by whom he was surrounded. Yet while we, his bereaved wife and little
ones, his aged parents and his fond brothers and sisters, so deeply mourn
his loss, he has not left us without a hope that our loss of him is his eternal
gain.---A Friend" RAY / DODD / SINGLETON Looking for information on RAY,
