War Notes
In the Battle of Chickamanuga Gen. Rosecrans had 129 regiments of
infantry, 18 regiments of cavalry and 35 batteries of artillery. There
were three regiments of mounted infantry from Indiana and Illinois, and
a company of Sharpshooters from Ohio, making the Federal Forces engaged
aggregate 189 organizations. Gen Bragg had 138 regiments of infantry, 33
regiments of cavalry 41 batteries of artillery, making 212. In addition
to these there were seven batteries from Alabama, four from Georgia, three
from Mississippi, two from South Carolina and five from Tennessee. Alabama
had two companies of Cavalry, Georgia one Company, Louisiana one, Mississippi
one, Tennessee, two making the total number of Confederate organizations
engaged 242. Thirty five per cent of the men engaged in the Battle of Chickamanuga
was killed, wounded and missing.
