ANNIE CATHERINE NABERS

Annie Catherine Nabers. 69, died Sunday, or, 29, 2909, at Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield, Ala. She was retired as a nurse at the ECM Hospital in Florence. AL. She was a member of First Methodist Church in Muscle Shoals. Ala. She was married Thomas A. Nabers.

Services were held Wednesday, Nov. 1, at Waters Funeral Chapel in Baldwyn with Bro. Dean Warren and Bro. Jeff Bayne officiating. Burial was in Prentiss Memorial Cemetery.

In addition to her husband, survivors include one daughter, Deloris Kay Dunlap of Onalaska, Wa., three Thomas Franklin Nabers of Corinth, Charles A. Nabers of Greenhill Ala. and Randy M. Nabers of Tuscumbia, Ala., one sister, Irene McCostin, Of Baldwyn; B. L. Outlaw of Verona, and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Anthony Nabers.

Pallbearers were Randy Tolar, Ronnie Langley, John Barber and Craig Langlsey.

BALDWYN - Annie Lee Nabors, 80, died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005, at her home. She was the daughter of the late John and Rosetta Price Tyes. She was a member of Mt. Zion Community Church in Guntown and the Heroines of Jericho Court No. 67.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Zion Community Church in Guntown with Bro. J.S. Agnew officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Memorial Garden in Guntown. Agnew and Sons Funeral Home of Baldwyn is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, John H. Nabors of Baldwyn; eight daughters, Sarah Willis, Janie Ogden, Lottie Ann (Thomas) Agnew, Helen Nabors, Evelyn Young, Annie Joe Nabors, Virginia (Fred) Young and Annie Faye (Bobby) McCoy; three sons, James H. (Betty) Nabors, Willie Nabors and James E. Nabors; three sisters, Mandy Easley, Ella Mae Corn and Della Mae Agnew; four brothers, Tom (Pauline) Tyes, Pete (Alberta) Tyes, Charlie W. (Gertrude) Tyes and Otto Tyes; 50 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren.

JESSIE NABORS

CORINTH - Jessie Howard Nabors, 91, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at the Magnolia Regional Health Center. He was born July 12, 1912, in Tippah County. He had lived in Alcorn County since 1932. He was a retired dairyman and farmer. He was a charter member and a charter deacon of Wheeler Grove Baptist Church.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Wheeler Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Kara Blackard and the Rev. Ray Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Park. Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include two daughters, Glenda Jean Inskeep and husband, Bill, of Florence, Ala., and Willard Kathryn Wilbanks and husband, Odealus, of Corinth; his grandchildren, Katherine Ann Wilbanks Silvey of McDonough, Ga., Michael Eugene Wilbanks and wife, Patty, of Corinth, and U. S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Christopher Howard Inskeep and wife, Susie, of Mayport, Fla.; three great-grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Wilbanks of Corinth, and John Thomas Inskeep and Caroline Leigh Inskeep, both of Mayport, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Annie B. Cook Nabors; an infant son; his parents, Zadie Todd Nabors and Dalton Weir Nabors; two sisters, Avice Mann and Ora Mae Elder; and a brother, Grady Nabors.

Pallbearers will be Anthony Benjamin, Jimmy Benjamin, Ricky Benjamin, Bert Calvary, Carroll Morton, Randy Shadburn, Gary Stewart and Jim Wilkinson.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

MRS. RUTH DOBBINS NADEAU

Mrs. Ruth Dobbins Nadeau, 73, of Route 4, Booneville, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 1985, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after an extended illness.

Services were Monday, Oct. 14, at 2 p.m. at McMillan Funeral Home chapel with Bro. Luther Gibson, and Bro. Pete McCoy officiating. Burial was in Booneville Cemetery.

Mrs. Nadeau was the widow of Winfred Nadeau. She was retired and a Baptist.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Alice Entrekin of Booneville; her mother, Mrs. Inez Dobbins; a brother, Philip Dobbins of Booneville; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

CHESTER NAGLE

Chester Nagle, 81, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at Iuka Hospital. He was a U. S. Army

veteran of World War II and was a member of the VFW. He was a retired power construction worker with Tennessee Valley Authority and was a Baptist.

Services were at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Steve Nichelson, Bro. Greg Philamlee and Bro. J. B. Bums officiating. Burial was in Bishop Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Emogene Bishop Nagle of Iuka; one daughter, Hope Nagle White of Oklahoma City; One sister, Lora Nagle of Burnsville; three grandchildren, Jimmy Strong of Richland, Wash., Beth and Kenny White, of Oklahoma City;

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Delight Nagle Strong.

LORA E. NAGLE

Lora E. Nagle, 85, died Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at the Iuka Hospital.

Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Thursday at Little Flock Cemetery with Bro. Steve Nicholson officiating. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Emogene Nagle of Iuka and Rosie Nagle of Texas; two nephews, one niece.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John L. and Elwa Nagle, and three brothers, Chester, J. L. and Robert Lee Nagle.

Pallbearers were Billy Huggins, Tom Bishop, Mason Salley, Gary Orick, Wesley Orick and Jimmy Strickland.

RIPLEY - Darrell Chism Nance, 69, died Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at the Tippah County Hospital. He was a retired farmer and also worked for Hill Brothers Construction in Falkner. He was a member of Falkner Baptist Church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Stanley Huddleston officiating. Burial will be in Nance Cemetery.

CORINTH - Harold Bernard Nance, 44, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004 at Magnolia Regional Health Center.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lighthouse Foundation with burial in Forrest Hill Cemetery. Bro. Gary Caveness will officiate. Patterson Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include three sons, Clifford Nance and his wife Nene, Richard Nance and James Nance and his wife Diane; and two sisters, Sharon Keith and Vanessa Dorsey and her husband Jimmy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wardell Nance and Lillie Mae Nance.

GUNTOWN - Lucille A. Nanney, 74, died Saturday, March 29, 2003, at her home. She was a retired employee of Lucky Star after 25 years. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church.

NUNONE LEON NANNEY

Nunone Leon Nanney, 80, of 200 Mimosa St., Booneville, died Friday, March 13, 1992, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Services were Sunday, March 15, at 4 p.m. at Salts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Hill, the Rev. Melvin Gary and the Rev. Stevens officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery, near Saltillo.

Mr. Nanney was the mascot for Wal-Mart in Booneville and was known as “Mr. Wal-Mart.” He was the widower of Avis Gertrude Nanney and a retired farmer.

He is survived by four daughters, Earlene Clark and Annie Barnes, both of Marietta, Maxine Boyd of Hackelburg, Ala., and Jane Horton of Baldwyn; four sons, Jim C. Nanney of Blue Springs, Travis E. Nanney of Palmetto, James E. Nanney and Jerry Wayne Nanney, both of New Albany; three sisters, Elsie Faye McMillen of Tupelo, Willie Mae Mullenix of Pontotoc and Molly Lou Nanney of Arkansas; a brother, Clyde Nanney ofSaltillo; 27 grandchildren and-30 great-grandchildren.

GUNTOWN - Sondra Marie Nanney, 30, died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Waters Funeral Home. Burial will be in Saltillo Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Charles E. Nanney of Guntown; three daughters, Anna Marie Nanney, Steffany Rhianon Nanney and Sarah Nicole Nanney, all of Guntown; a son, Gregory Richard Nanney of Guntown; five sisters, Martha King of Guntown, Cynthia Konersmann of Southaven, Jennifer Garner of Saltillo, Shawna Ryals of Guntown and Sharon Homan of Guntown; three brothers, James Walters of Blue Springs, Michael Walters of Guntown and Walter Walters of Verona; her father-in-law, James W. WANDA S. NANNEY

A Rienzi school teacher and her infant son died Thursday night in a two-car collision 12 miles south of Corinth at the intersection of U. S. 45 and Mississippi 356.

Although Wanda S. Nanney, 23, wore a seat belt and had Johnathen, 20 months, in a child restraint seat, the impact on her 1985 Honda, which was destroyed, was too great for the safety measures to save their lives. Ambulances from Magnolia Hospital transported their bodies directly to E. E. Salts and Son Funeral Home in Booneville.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Nanney, a special education teacher at Rienzi Elementary, had been employed by the Alcorn School District since August 1990.

The accident occurred around 8:53 p.m. Thursday. Nanney of Route 2, Rienzi, collided with Kenneth W. Duvall, 61, of Sky Blue Street, Louisville, Ky., at the intersection. No charges have been pressed as investigation continues into the cause of the accident. Duvall was not injured in the accident.

RIENZI — Wanda Dell Nanney, 23, died Thursday as the result of an automobile accident. She was a teacher of special education at the Rienzi Elementary School. She was a graduate of Freed-Hardeman University and a member of the Tri-Zeta Sorority. She was a member of the Booneville Church of Christ.

VIVIAN NANNEY

BALDWYN - Vivian Harris Nanney, 91, died Friday, June 4, 2004, at the Baldwyn Nursing Facility after an extended illness. She spent most of her life in Prentiss County where she was born April 26, 1913. She was a member of the First Christian Church, a member of the Eastern Star Chapter 740ES and was considered a favorite citizen as she served others in the Farmers and Merchants Bank as Vice-president for many years. She was greatly loved and respected for her generosity, her vitality, her love of people, her dedication and her ever-present smile.

Services will be at noon Monday at Waters Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jim Irvin officiating. Burial will be in the Baldwyn Masonic Cemetery.

Survivors include one sister, Virginia H. Thompson of Corinth; one niece, Mary D. Howell of Brandon; two nephews, Harmon Duncan of Johnson City, Tenn. and Don Thompson of Golden, along with their families.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Nanney, and by one sister, Marjorie H. Duncan.

Pallbearers will be Jack Hamblin, Robert Coggins, Billy Hopkins, Clyde Tapp, Paul Haynes Jr. and John Haynes.

Visitation will be from 10 a. m. Monday until service time.

JODY ADAMS NAPIER

Jody Adams Napier, 30, of Adamsville, Tenn., formerly of Booneville, died Sunday. Jan. 7, 2001, at The Med in Memphis from injuries received in a plane crash.

Services were Wednesday, Jan. 10 at 3 p.m. at First Methodist Church in Adamsville, Tenn., with Ministers Steve Callicoatt and Mike Moore officiating. Burial was in Pine Hill Memorial Garden in Adamsville. Shackelford Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Napier was self-employed in cable TV construction. He was a member of First Methodist Church in Adamsville.

He is survived by his wife, Nickie Berryman Napier: three daughters, Brooke Napier, Toni Napier and Karly (Mojo) Napier, all of Adamsville, Tenn. His wife is also expecting another child. He is also survived by his parents, James and Barbara Adams Napier of Michie, Tenn., two sisters, Shelly Avery of Bartlett, Tenn.; and Christy Napier of Adamsville, Tenn.

CORINTH - Howard Alton Nash, 58, died Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. He was a Baptist. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and being outdoors.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Magnolia Funeral Home's Chapel of Memories with Bro. Travis Smith officiating. Burial will be in Sardis Cemetery at Rienzi.

Survivors include a son, Jeff Nash of Counce, Tenn.; two daughters, Gladys and Randy Broadway of Counce, Tenn., and Laura and Jeff Harp of Guntown; five granddaughters, Tiffney Childs, Candace Broadway, Darby Broadway, Breanna Nash and Gracie Harp; a brother, Billy and Hattie Nash of Rienzi; two sisters, Martha and Carl Hall of Rienzi, and Maxi and Don Thomason of Battlecreek, Ind.; numerous nieces and nephews.

RIENZI ‑ Beulah Mae Vanderford Nash, 96, died Monday. Nov. 29, 1999, at her granddaughter's home in Collierville, Tenn., A lifelong resident ' of Alcorn County, she was Lord Oct 28, 1903 She was a homemaker and a member of Kemp's Chapel Baptist Church far 71 years. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed gaining. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elgin Alvin Nash, in 1965. .

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Kemp's Chapel Baptist Church in Rienzi with Dr William Nash Wade, Minister David Underwood and Tony Lambert officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. McPeters Funeral Directors of Corinth is in charge of the arrangements.

CORINTH - Clifford P. Nash, 90, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at his home. He was a member of Tate Baptist Church and Woodmen of the World. He enjoyed visiting his family in Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas.

EARIE ROSCOE NASH

CORINTH, Miss. - Earie Roscoe Nash, 82, retired farmer, was pronounced dead Monday afternoon at Magnolia Hospital after he was found lying beside his pickup truck near Rienzi, Miss., Alcorn County Chief Deputy Sheriff Terry Doles said Tuesday.

Nash was found on the side of Mississippi 356 about two miles east of Rienzi. His truck struck a small pine tree after it left the road.

George Coleman, Alcorn County coroner, said the death was ruled a heart attack. He said witnesses reported that Nash was driving slowly and slumped over the wheel just before the truck left the road.

EVA ROGERS NASH

CORINTH - Eva Rogers Nash, 77, died Monday, Sept. 26, 2005, at the Iuka Hospital. She was a retired nurse. She began her nursing career in the surgery department at the Corinth Hospital. She later worked for two doctors for several years, then as a nurse at ITT until retiring. She was a member of Tate Baptist Church, a Cub Scout den mother and a volunteer at the children's shelter. She enjoyed cooking and helping others, and she loved her family and friends.

PHOENIX, Ariz. - Michael Hardy Nash, 29, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, in Phoenix. He was a 1990 graduate of Corinth High School and attended Mississippi State University. He played baseball and basketball, and played in two state basketball championship games at CHS.

CORINTH - Roy "Peden" Nash died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, at his residence. He was the owner of Lee Highway Floral which was established in 1922 by his mother, Florence Holley Nash. Remaining active in the business until Jan., 2003, he was the oldest floral designer in North Miss. He was known for the cultivation of cut flowers and flowering plants from his greenhouses. He was a member of the FTD Floral Association and the Miss. and North Miss. Floral Associations. He was a past member of the Kiwanis Club, the Elks and the Hillandale Country Club. He was a 1936 graduate of Corinth High School where he was a member of the football team and attended the University of Alabama. A life-long member of the First Baptist Church, he was recognized as the longest living member of the church. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.

Kenneth Merl NcNeil, 64, died Wednesday, May 12, 1999, at the Iuka hospital after a long illness. He was born March 22, 1935, in Holcut to George Winford and Captola Bumpas McNeil. He was a 1953 graduate of Holcut High School and a four-year veteran of the U. S. Air Force. He was a retired printer for Intex Plastics in Corinth after 35 years. He enjoyed yard work, gardening and fishing.

She was born April 4, 1961, in Booneville, the daughter of Julius G. and Wilda Ashcraft McMurry. She was a waitress and attended the First United Pentecostal Church in Booneville. She enjoyed working in her yard and, most of all, her grandchildren.

BALDWYN - Samuel Wayne "Sam" Neely, 62, died Saturday, June 4, 2005, at the North Miss. Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born July 2, 1942, in Tupelo. He graduates from Miss. State University in Entomology and Horticulture. He served as the State Apiarist of Tennessee and worked in the pest control industry throughout his life. He was a devoted father, grandfather, a friend to all and the ultimate and loyal Miss. State Bulldog fan. He was an avid reader and a sports and music enthusiast. He was a member of the First Evangelical Church of Tupelo.

CORINTH - Adlene Victoria Nelms, 76, died Thursday, July 3, 2003, at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Tishomingo Chapel Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Andrew and Linnie Talley Sherard.

BESSIE NELMS

CORINTH - Bessie Carter Nelms, 80, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at the Magnolia Regional Health Center. She was an active member of the Oakland Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school and gave special attention to the senior adults for more than 30 years. She was employed by Magnolia Hosiery Mill since 1953. She worked at and knew all the operations of the business.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Oakland Baptist Church with Dr. Randy Bostick and Dr. Ronald Meeks officiating. Burial will be in Corinth National Cemetery. McPeters Inc. Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include a son, Donald W. HELEN DAVIS NELSON

IUKA - Helen Davis Nelson, 82, died Monday, March 8, 2004, at the Iuka Hospital. She was born Dec. 7, 1921, in Dennis and was a member of the Iuka United Methodist Church. She graduated from Belmont High School in 1939, and went to work for the Draft Board in Iuka. She owned, operated and kept the books for four businesses in Iuka with her husband, Merle, including Mill Creek Boat Dock, Nelson's Marine, Nelson Finance Company and in 1972 started Nelson's Supermarket. She enjoyed playing bridge, golf and watching football.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Iuka United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ed Temple and the Rev. Franky Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Cutshall Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Merle Nelson of Iuka; two sons, Steve Nelson and wife, Sherry, and Mike Nelson, all of Iuka; two brothers, Rufus "Dave" Davis of Selmer, Tenn., and Warren Davis of Memphis; one sister, Dorothy Durrance of Gastonia, N. CORINTH - Laura Kirksey Coleman Nelson, 94, died Friday, Aug. 5, 2005, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville. She was born Jan. 26, 1911, to Joe W. and Ella George Coleman. She married J.T. "Tom" Nelson on Jan. 8, 1930; he preceded her in death in 1985. She was a homemaker. She was a lifelong member of Gaines Chapel United Methodist Church and an original member of the Sunshine Sunday School Class. A wonderful Christian lady with such loving spirit and joy, she was loved by everyone who knew her.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Gaines Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tony Pounders officiating. Burial will be in Henry Cemetery. Coleman Family Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Alice Houston and husband, Kenneth, of Corinth and Ella Jean Whalen and husband, David, of Olive Branch; three grandchildren, John David Whalen of Olive Branch, Kent Houston of Corinth and Jason Houston of Memphis.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Edward L. Coleman, L.W. "Bubba" Coleman, R.W. Coleman, James W. Coleman and Irby Coleman; and two sisters, Daisy Coleman Newcomb and Mary Coleman Tankersley.

MABEL NELSON

BOONEVILLE – Mabel Ann Nelson, 88, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, at her home after a brief illness. She was retired as a registered nurse with the Prentiss County Health Department. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and a 50-year member of the Booneville Pilot Club. She was a past recipient of the Prentiss County Outstanding Citizen Award and was active in the Goodfellows Program for many years. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, and spending time with her great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at McMillan Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Bobby Hankins will officiate, and Marshall Dickerson will deliver the eulogy. Burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Park.

Survivors include a daughter, Sarah Ann Cole and husband, David, of Memphis; a granddaughter, Karen Bartle and husband, Dr. Sam Bartle, of Richmond, Va.; a grandson, Nelson Cole and wife, Susan, of Booneville; great-grandchildren, Christopher Thomas Bartle, David Andrew Bartle, Casey Ann Cole and Miller Aaron Cole; a special caregiver, Larry Raines of Memphis.

COL. O.C. NELSON

IUKA - Retired U.S. Air Force Col. Omer C. "O.C." Nelson, 83, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, at his home in Iuka after a long illness. A native of Tishomingo County, he was born Dec. 24, 1920, to the late James Omer and Altye Callicott Nelson. He served in three wars - World War II, Korea and Vietnam - and flew in the Berlin Airlift in 1948. He flew 97 combat missions and logged 568 combat hours while in Korea and served as Chief, Operations Division for Tactical Airlift during his assignment in Vietnam during 1968-1970. His last duty assignment before retiring in 1972 was Chief, Operations Division for Tactical Airlift at Tactical Air Command at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia. During his career he became a Command Pilot, accumulating more than 10,000 hours while flying B-24s, B-17s, B-25s, C-54s, C-47s, C-119s, C-123s and C-130s. His decorations include the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal with Five Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, the Korean Service Medal with Six Battle Stars, the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, plus other service medals and awards.

Since his retirement from the Air Force, he had been active in Iuka. He was an active member of the Rotary Club, attaining the Paul Harris Medal. He was a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner. He was a director of the First American National Bank for more than 25 years and chairman of the Planning Committee for the City of Iuka for more than 10 years. He was active in the Iuka United Methodist Church, where he was involved in many different committees. He was a member of the American Legion, the VFW and the Iuka Airport Authority for many years. He was co-owner of Nelson Marine and Hardware for more than 20 years and an alumnus of Mississippi State University.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Iuka United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ed Temple and the Rev. Tim Dixon officiating. A eulogy will be presented by Jim Nelson. Graveside services will be at Oak Grove Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Columbus Air Force Base. Cutshall Funeral home of Iuka is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Bette Nelson; three sons, Jim Nelson, Bob Nelson and Dr. Gary Nelson, all of the Jackson area; a brother, Merle Nelson of Iuka; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; two nephews, Mike Nelson and Steve Nelson of Iuka; several cousins.

RIENZI - Tyler Andrew Newborn, 16, died Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus. He was born Aug. 19, 1988, in Sheffield, Ala., to Kevin Newborn and Lisa Mozingo. He was a junior at Biggersville High School and a member of the North Rienzi Church of Christ.

BOONEVILLE – John Norman Newby, 71, died Thursday, June 15, 2000, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville after an extended illness. He was born March 2, 1929, in Pontotoc County to William John Newby and Jessie Jane Britt Newby He was of the Church of Christ faith. He was a mill room worker in the furniture manufacturing industry for many years, and he worked for Deviney Construction Company for 10 years prior to his retirement. He enjoyed whittling, fishing and walking. He had a special way with children.

PHILIP NEWCOMB

CORINTH - Philip Newcomb, 61, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004, at his home. He was a member and elder at New Hope Church of Christ. He was a military policeman in the U. S. Army in South Korea. He was a graduate of the first graduating class at Alcorn Central High School, where he was an outstanding basketball player and voted Most Athletic. He worked 35 years for the Dana Corp., including 15 years in Greenville. He returned to Corinth five years ago. He was an avid outdoorsman.

CORINTH - Vester C. Newcomb, 75, died Monday, Sept. 22, 2003, at the Magnolia Regional Health Center. He was a self-employed service technician and a member of Strickland Church of Christ. He loved his family and friends. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, traveling in the mountains, and watching television sports and the game show "Wheel of Fortune."

WILLARD NEWCOMB

IUKA - Willard E. Newcomb, 85, died Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at his home. He was a member of the Iuka Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Burnsville Lodge No. 233 F&AM. He was a member of the Boilermakers Local No. 455 and the Order of the Eastern Star. He was known as one of the last true blacksmiths.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka with Bro. Jim Holcomb officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Bertha Newcomb of Iuka; a son, David W. Newcomb of Iuka; a brother, Anderson Newcomb of Burnsville; two sisters, Velma Tucker of Leedy and Rena Davis of Corinth; two grandchildren, Mindy N. CORINTH - William "Jim" Newcomb, 73, died Thursday, May 29, 2003, at the Magnolia Regional Health Center. A native of Alcorn County, he was born Aug. 14, 1929, to the late William and Caldonia Burcham Newcomb. He was a retired employee of the Dana Corp. and a member of the Jerusalem Church of Christ. He enjoyed fishing.

MARIETTA - E. K. "Gene" Newell, 80, of the Ozark community died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was a retired carpenter and also worked in the furniture industry. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving aboard the USS Hornet. He attended the Ozark Methodist Church. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Charles F. Newman, for Thirty-six years owner, editor, and publisher of this paper passed away at his home here early Saturday morning, after a lingering illness of several weeks. In the still watches of the night, just before the birth of a new day, the messenger of death came and stole quietly away with his prize. So soft was the tread of his feet that even those who slept close by, ever wakeful to his needs, never heard the coming or the going.

For weeks the shadow of Death had been upon him, yet it only seemed to add patience and sweetness to his nature. On the very night that he died he sat up in his bed and laughed with his family over humorous incidents recalled from the youthful days of his children. He was a great lover of his family. It was his one great delight to gather them around him. At home he was full of jokes and stories, telling them with a remarkable ability. That talent thus cultivated around his fireside was one of the sources of his mastery of men.

While the silence of death wraps and chills us at this moment, memories, sweet and precious, come crowding in. Let us, if possible, gather up the elements of his life and weave them into a picture for the walls of memory.

Charley Newman was born in the year 1862 in DeCalb County, Ala. At an early age [about 16 - circa 1878] he entered the newspaper work, becoming connected with the old Fulton Courier, owned at that time by St. Claire Lawrence. Two years later [circa 18801 he came to Baldwyn and founded the "Signet". From that time until his death his lot had been cast with the people of this community. He was only Eighteen years of age when he bravely opened the doors of the Signet office. But he had in his heart a mighty surging of love for people. His mission was to serve them.

It would take pages to tell of the struggles for existence made by the young town which had sprung up in the heart of the forest primeval. No electric lights shone forth to guide the erring traveler. No concrete was there to protect the feet of the citizen. Saturday was a day when the women of the town dared not come out of their homes lest they be shocked by the rav....

But there was a little body of people here who determined to make of Baldwyn one of the most beautiful little towns in the South. And it was with these that the young man allied himself and his publication. Together they grew and learned to love each other.

In the year 1885 he was married to one of the fairest young ladies of the countryside, Elizabeth Olivia Pearson, daughter of a Methodist minister by that name, who some of the older residents will remember as a devout man of God. She was a true partner in life; a faithful wife; a wonderful mother. To this woman was born eight children, five boys and three girls, in whom the parents delighted.

He was a brilliant writer. He was always to be found on the side of progress, and added valuable aid in the up building of a Christian community. His editorials bore no uncertain attitude. He was clear in his condemnation of all that was wrong. His heart was with his people. His publication was a guiding star to which they looked with ever increasing confidence for advice and counsel. Although it took a great deal of fortitude in those days to take a public stand on the issues which came before the people, he was never found attempting to sidetrack them.

He put the kindliest construction possible on the frailties of his fellow man, ever ready to assist them in distress, sympathizing with them in trouble, and rejoice with them in their pleasures. At the death-bed he was found, and in the sick room, anxious to comfort and assist. "The deaths ye have died" he watched beside, and the "live ye have lived," were his. The columns of his paper were ever open to the cause of humanity. Never a poor, hungering soul was refused admission to his door. His life was one of service, with never a thought of pecuniary remuneration. Embarrassing this sometimes to him and to his family. Yet he was always optimistic, believing that sometime, somewhere he would be rewarded, and a staunch adherer to the creed "A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches."

No bronze nor marble shaft, no splendor of ancient or modern tombs, play of mortal genius can adorn the [life?] of such a man. "A superior and commanding human intellect," a truly great man, his life has touched that of a vast number of others, as a burning torch which touches here and there a tuft of dry grass on a wide prairie, leaving the whole field alight from the potent contact

It is sad to confine to the dust the body of one we love, but how infinitely more sad if we were compelled to part with the spirit which animated that tenement of clay. The gift of his life we have and of that the tomb cannot deprive us.

It was beautiful to see the love the people held for him. Hundreds gathered round the bier to gaze on the face so familiar in their midst. To their minds there rushed recollection of kindly words that had flowed from his pen, comforting those who had lost some friend or relative, for he was as tender and compassionate as a child.

The funeral cortege was the largest seen here in years. The floral offering surpassed in size and quantity that of any other we have ever seen, testifying to the place he held in the hearts of his countrymen.

Tenderly the body was laid to rest in the Masonic cemetary. The mound was a perfect mass of gorgeous flowers. We gaze with tear-bedimmed eyes upon their rare beauty, and think of the life which has gone from us, which, like the rose that is crushed in the hand, gives forth from its bruised petals a greater fragrance. And we turn from the grave with sorrowing hearts and silent tread and once again take up the broken thread of life and strive to mend the broken strands.

BOONEVILLE ‑ James R, Newman, 65, died Thursday, Jan 13, 2000, at the North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness He was a retired state motor vehicle comptroller and the owner of OEM Automotive. He was a U. S. Air Force veteran and a member of the American Legion. He was a member of the Church at Christ.

Services will be at 1 p m. Saturday at McMillan Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Dwight Pharr and the Rev. Jerry Wallace officiating. Burial will be in Carter's Chapel Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, JoRene Phillips Newman, three daughters, Rhonda N. MRS. ARA CHRISTINE WHITE NEWTON

Mrs. Ara Christine White Newton, 65, of Route 5, Booneville, died Tuesday, July 23, 1985, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo following a brief illness.

Services were Thursday, July 25, at 1 p.m. at McMillan Funeral Home chapel with Frank Brooks and R.C. Spencer officiating. Burial was in Liberty Cemetery.

Pallbearers were T.N. George, Travis Stokes, Monroe Michael, Nolan Wheeler, James Moore, R. W. Martin, Robert Martin, Charles M. Moore Jr., Trent W. Moore and Ted Ledbetter.

Mrs. Newton was a member of Martin Hill Free Will Baptist Church and had recently served as pianist at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She was a retired employee of Prentiss Manufacturing Company.

She is survived by a daughter, Jan Newton of Booneville; three brothers, Cecil White of Booneville, K.V. White of Michigan City, Ind., and Eugene White of San Diego, Calif.; four sisters, Gladys White, Willa Mae Walden and Emogene Moore, all of Booneville, and Lucille Walden of Prague, Okla.

JOAN STEVENS NEWTON

Joan Stevens Newton, 68, of Corinth, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002, at her home. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 12. Burial was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Glen.

Local survivors include a son, Charles "Rich" Newton of Rienzi.

KENNETH NEWTON

CORINTH - Kenneth Newton, 52, died Thursday, July 29, 2004, at his home. He was born Aug. 3, 1951, in Georgia. He was a 1969 graduate of Alcorn Central High School. He worked as a tankerman for Ole Man River Barge Company for 20 years until his health failed. He attended Strickland Church of Christ. He enjoyed animals and flowers.

A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. today at Strickland Church of Christ with Minister Brad Dillingham officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. McPeters Inc. Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

BOONEVILLE - Charles Richard "Rich" Newton, 51, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, in South Fork, Colo. He was born June 30, 1952, in Kenosha, Wis., to Floyd and Joan Stevens Newton. He was a contract carpenter and a member of the Church of Christ. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, bicycling, walking, gardening, mowing and woodworking.

CAIRO - Darrell E. "Newt" Newton, 76, died Thursday, April 1, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville after a long illness. He was a construction engineer with Morrison Knudsen Inc., retiring in 1987. He was the chief of the Cairo Volunteer Fire Department and a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the State Executive Republican Committee and chairman of the Tishomingo County Republican Committee.

BELMONT - Anita Credille Nichols, 61, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. She worked with her mother and father at Credille's Outlet Store for 25 years. She also worked with Home Interior and Premier Design for several years. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends to craft shows. She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church.

BOONEVILLE -- Milton C. “Bud” Nichols, 61, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1993, at the North

Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. He was a retired employee of Hardin’s Bakery, an Army veteran of the Korean War and a Pentecostal.

Casper Clyde Nichols, 77, of Booneville, died Sunday. March 17, 2002, at The Courtyards in Fulton after an extended illness.

Services were Tuesday, March 19 at 2 p.m. at McMillan Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Terry Paul Graham and Bro. C. D. Edge officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Nichols was retired from Intex Plastics in Corinth and a member and deacon of Grace United Methodist Church. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War 11. He loved fishing and the outdoors.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Julia Michael Nichols; a son, Roger Nichols and his wife, Ann, of Fulton; three daughters. Mae Laney. Janie Kimble and her husband, Junior, all of Nettleton, and Melissa Turner of Booneville; four stepdaughters, Dianne Weeks and her husband, Willie, Donna Coats. Denise Wilemon and her husband, Clayton, all of Booneville, and Phyllis Barnes and her husband, Terry, of Tupelo: three sisters, Alene Cox of Mulbrow, Okla., Inez Riggs of Tupelo, and Lola Jean Magers of Mantachie; 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Dora Bell Nichols; four brothers, Nick, Sorrell, Bill and Guy Nichols; and a sister, Ocie Yeager.

BALDWYN - Danny Dwight Nichols, 58, died suddenly Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, at his home. He was an employee for the City of Baldwyn for almost 30 years.

LEESVILLE, La. - Gretchen Rogers Nichols, 81, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at Beauregard Memorial Hospital in DeRidder, La. Formerly of Booneville, she had lived in Vernon Parish, La., for the past 32 years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Carolina Methodist Church.

BOONEVILLE ‑ Guy James Nichols, 89, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at the Beverly Healthcare Center in Tupelo. He was the son of the late Albert and Dora Underwokd Nichols. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mildred Nahols, on Sept 19. 1995. He was a member of the Church of Christ, and a retired farmer and factory worker.

Mrs. Helen Nichols, age 20, former resident of Prentiss County, died at her home at Lilbourn, Missouri 8 June 1941 after several weeks of illness.

She was a member of the Methodist Church at Siloam Helen was born at New Site and had lived most of her life there until she moved to Lilbourn last October.

Bro held funeral services at Siloam Church 9 June. Ivy. Burial was in Siloam Cemetery. She leaves her husband, Leonard of Lilbourn, a daughter, Geneva Ann aged 2, her parents Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Isbell, five sisters, Faydell, Kathleen, Maxine, Sue and Jane, and one brother, Webber all of New Site.

MOOREVILLE – Horace Tremon Nichols, 73, died Friday, Feb. 20, 2004, at the North Miss. Medical Center after an extended illness. He was born Nov. 14, 1930, in the Centerville community of Itawamba County to the late Ramon Richard Nichols and Lillian Beatrice Magers Nichols. A Mooreville resident, he worked most of his adult life in the furniture industry and was the retired owner of Fineline Furniture Mfg. Co. in Nettleton. He was a graduate of Itawamba Community College and served his country in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church and had attended the Mooreville United Methodist Church for the last 15 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a member of the Beaver Creek Hunting Club.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Lee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Sammy Washburn and Kay Faulkenbery officiating. Burial will be in the Mooreville United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mary Sparks Nichols, 77, of Ripley, Tenn., formerly of Booneville, died Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at Baptist Hospital-Lauderdale.

Services were Friday. March 29, at 1 p.m. at the Yarbrough Funeral Home Chapel in Ripley, Tenn. Burial was in the Holladay Cemetery in Holladay, Tenn.

Mrs. Nichols was a retired nurses' aide. She was a member of the Ripley Church of Christ.

She is survived by her husband, Melvin L. Nichols Sr.; two sons, Lamar Nichols of Holladay, Tenn., and Stephen M. Nichols of Ripley, Tenn.; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Parker E. Nichols of Booneville passed away Thursday at 5 a. m. in the Northeast Mississippi Hospital following an illness of two years. He was a member of Mt. Pisgah Free Will Baptist Church and a retired mechanic. He was 63.

Funeral services were conducted Friday at 1 p.m. in Liberty Methodist Church with Bro. Huey Wood and Bro. Briley officiating. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery with McMillan, Funeral Directors in charge.

BOONEVILLE - Vera Penny Nichols, 88, died Thursday, Aug. 4, 2005, at The Landmark Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Booneville. She was born Oct. 19, 1916, in Prentiss County to William Joseph Penny and Georgia Bell Sartain Penny. She was a machine operator for Marietta Manufacturing for many years. She later was a nursing assistant at Baptist Memorial Hospital. She was a Pentecostal. She enjoyed singing, making music, traveling, crocheting and growing flowers.

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. today at the Booneville Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Melvin Harrison and Bro. Terry Teddlie officiating. Burial will be in Kirkville Cemetery.

Mrs. Frances Louise Nicholson, 80, of Moss Point, formerly of Booneville, died Friday, April 21, 2000, in Moss Point.

Mrs. Nicholson was born Nov. 1, 1919. She was a member of Greater Life Tabernacle in Moss Point. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. C. "Red" Nicholson and a son, Terry Nicholson.

BOONEVILLE - Newman "Newt" Nicholson, 79, died Sunday, July 27, 1997, at the Booneville Baptist Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. He was retired from Mechanical-Electrical Supply. He was a member of First United Pentecostal Church in Booneville. He was a World War II Army veteran.

ALMER T. NIX

BOONEVILLE – Almer T. Nix, 86, died Monday, July 20, 1998, at his home after a long illness. He was a retired farmer.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at McMillan Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gene McGaughy and the Rev. Marshall Tennison officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Church of God Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Mamie McGaughy Nix of Booneville; two daughters, Opal Duncan of Burnsville. and Quay Whitehurst and her husband, Frank, of Booneville; two sons, Hershel Nix of Booneville, and Jackie Nix and his wife, Alicia, of Corinth; one sister, Magoline Green of Hamilton, Ala.; two brothers, Daniel Nix and his wife, Annie, and Paul Nix and his wife, Willa Mae, all of Gum, Ala.: 13 grandchildren: 25 great‑grandchildren; nine great‑great‑grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Whitehurst, Benny Cooksey, Robert Davis, Timmy Duncan, Robbie Mitchell and David Whitehurst.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Green, Marshall Green, Jerry Green and M. D. Davis.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

AZZLE O. NIX

BOONEVILLE - Azzle O. Nix, 81, died Thursday, October 9, 1991, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. He was a retired employee of the Mississippi Forestry Commission and a member of the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the McMillan Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Glen Jones and the Rev. Hollis Southerland officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Rest Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife. Mae Nix, two daughters, Joyce Pounders and Carolyn Downs; two sons, Tommy Nix and A. C. Nix, all of Booneville, five sisters, Annis Johnson and Mary Scott, both of Marietta. Cordilla Clingon, Ila Gilley and Ochie Johnson, all of Alabama: one brother, M. C. Nix of Alabama; six grandsons and three great-grandchildren.

Azzle O. Nix, 81, of Route 4, Box 378, Booneville, died Thursday,m March 12, 1992, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after a brief illness.

Services were Friday, March 13, at 2 p.m. at McMillan Funeral Home Chapel with Glen Jones and Hollis Southerland officiating. Burial was in Zions Rest Cemetery.

Mr. Nix was a retired employee of the Mississippi Forestry Commission. He was a member of Mt. Pisgah Free Will Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mae Nix; two daughters, Joyce Pounders and Carolyn Downs, both of Booneville; two sons, Tommy Nix and A.C. HERSHEL O. NIX

CORINTH – Hershel O. Nix, 73, died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at the Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth. He retired from maintenance service for the Natchez Trace Parkway after 15 years. He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at McMillan Funeral Home Chapel in Booneville with Bro. Marshall Tennison officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery near Cairo.

Survivors include his mother, Mamie Nix of the Snowdown community; two sisters, Opal Duncan of Booneville, and Quay Whitehurst and husband, Frank, of Southaven; a brother, Jackie Nix and wife, Alice, of Burnsville; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Almer Nix.

Pallbearers will be his nephews and great-nephews.

Visitation will continue until service time today.

JAMES ALLEY NIX, SR.

BOONEVILLE - James Alley Nix, Sr., 68, died Tuesday, August 18, 1992residence following a sudden illness. He was a retired employee of Houston's Amoco after 32 scars of service, and was an employee of Quartet Industries in Booneville 11 r the past year. He was a member of the Martin Hill Free Will Baptist Church.

Services will he at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Salts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Curtis Briarly and the Rev. Rick Bowling officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include his wife, Mae Nix of Booneville; two daughters, Sherry Nanney and Judy Chittom. both of Booneville: three sons, Junior Nix, Terry Nix and Billy Nix. all of Booneville: his mother. Etta Nix of Booneville: one sister. Bobbie Jumper of Illinois: 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

DOYLE NIX

CORINTH - James Doyle Nix, 77, died Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at the Magnolia Regional Health Center. He was a Baptist. He was a retired U.S. Air Force veteran of 23 years, serving during World War II, the Korean conflict and the Vietnam conflict. He loved his family and friends, and was devoted to his country.

Services with military honors will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Magnolia Funeral Home Chapel of Memories. The Rev. Ted Avant and the Rev. Louie Burl Nix will officiate, and Charlie Browning will deliver the eulogy. Burial will be at Spring Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery near Iuka.

Survivors include his wife, Corine Nix of Corinth; a son, Ronnie Frederick and wife, Dot, of Corinth; a grandchild, Jennifer Brown of Denver, Colo.; a brother, Henry D. "Don" Nix and wife, Flora, of Marion County, Ala.; two sisters, Ann Stone of Marion County, Ala., and Frances Gearldine Gerrard and husband, Ray, of Palm Harbor, Fla.; his mother-in-law, Jewel James of Corinth; a sister-in-law, Beatrice Youngblood and husband, Joe, of Ramer, Tenn.; three brothers-in-law, Tommy James and wife, Shirley, and Kenny James and wife, Denise, all of Glen, and Martin King of Corinth; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ulem Nix and Minnie Johnson Nix; a grandchild, Jason Brown; a brother and wife, Earnest B. "Burl" Nix and Fannie Nix; a sister, Myrtle Herring; his father-in-law, Temple James; his mother-in-law, Zethel James; a sister-in-law, Lucy James King; and a brother-in-law, Kenneth James.

Pallbearers will be Ken Nix, Hudon Stone, Ricky Gosa, Jimmy Frederick, Kenny James and Jimmy Skinner.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. to service time Tuesday.

KATHLYN NIX

CORINTH - Kathlyn Nix, 83, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004, at the Magnolia Regional Health Center. She was born April 25, 1921, in Selmer, Tenn., to the late Robert and Hazel Walker. She was a member of the Loraine Baptist Church. She had worked for Wurlitzer and Weavers Pants Factory.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Pete Wooley officiating. Burial will be in the Loraine Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Nix and his wife, Cathy, of Olive Branch, and Kenneth Ray Nix of Corinth; two daughters, Barbara Mill and her husband, Pat, of Olive Branch, and Shirley Newcomb of Collierville, Tenn.; one brother, Charles Walker of Olive Branch; one sister, Ruth Moore and her husband, Kenneth, of Kossuth; her grandchildren, Cliff Mills, Kristy Byrd, Kirk Nix, Karen Teeter, Lee Newcomb, Suzanne Grooms and Brad Ingle; 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cecil Nix; and her brothers, Lester and Chester Nix.

Pallbearers will be Cliff Mills, Kirk Nix, Lee Newcomb, Wade Moore, Brian Teeter, Brian Grooms and Brad Ingle.

ZELMA H. NIX

MEMPHIS – Zelma H. Nix, 92 died Wednesday, June 3, 1992 at the Hillhaven Health Care Center in Memphis after a long illness. She was a homemaker and a member of the Primitive Baptist Church. She was the widow of Herbert A. Nix.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at McMillian Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Billy Boyd officiating. Burial will be in the Gaston Cemetery.

Survivors included one son, Charles W. Nix of Memphis; two sisters Alice Harris, and Mittie Ryan both of Booneville; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.

JEWEL L. NIXON

CAIRO - Jewell L. Nixon, 81, died Saturday. June 27, 1998, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo

She was a retired school teacher, having taught in the Tishomingo Doubly School System for almost 40 years. She was a member of the Retired Teachers’ Association and Kappa Kappa Iota sororlry. She was also a member of Eastern Star and the New Lebanon Freewill Baptist Church where she served as the church secretary and taught Sunday School for many years.

Services will be at 2 Pun today at New Lebanon Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Corbett and the Rev. Terry Booker officiating, Burial will be in the New Lebanon Cemetery. Cutshall Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements

Survivors include 23 nieces and 16 nephews, several great‑nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fay Nixon.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Helton, Jack Lambert, Bobby Belue, Kerry Davis, Rodney South and Ronnie Whitehead.

The body will be placed in it, church one hour prior to service.
