OUIDA JACKS

KILMICHAEL - Ouida Ann Ingram Jacks, 92, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003, at the Iuka Hospital. She was born Oct. 18, 1910, in Alva. She graduated from high school in Alva in 1928 and was class valedictorian. She taught school at Gore Springs, Heuck's Retreat and Kilmichael. She was a member of the first licensed practical nurse class at Baptist Hospital in Jackson in 1959. She nursed in hospitals in McComb and Kilmichael and at the Winona Manor nursing home. She was a member and former Sunday school teacher at the Kilmichael Baptist Church, and a member of the Kilmichael Women's Club. She enjoyed gardening, ceramics and sewing.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel in Winona with the Rev. David Bishop officiating. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery in Kilmichael.

Survivors include a daughter, Jeannine Stone and husband, Jerry, of Iuka; a son, Jerry Jacks and wife, Elaine, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; a daughter-in-law, Joan Jacks of Pensacola, Fla.; a brother, Felix Ingram of Alva; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Gates Jacks; a son, Glen G. Jacks; a grandson, William Clay Stone; a great-granddaughter, Andrea Galen Jacks; and her parents, Robert Glover and Gertrude Hood Ingram.

Pallbearers will include her grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Oliver Funeral Home in Winona.

Memorials may be made to Kilmichael Baptist Church in Kilmichael or Southern Magnolia Estates in Iuka.

 

BETTIE HARRIS-JACKSON

CORINTH - Bettie Lou Harris-Jackson, 58, died Saturday, March 8, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jackson. She was a 1963 graduate of Easom High School. She received her B. S. degree in sociology at Lane College, where she was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She was a retired employee of World Color Corps. She was an active member of City Road CME Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, president of the Missionary Society, a steward and recording steward for the church. She was a member of the Annual Conference Joint Board of Finance and was a delegate to the last three general conferences. She was a member of the NAACP, a Daughter Ruler for Gladys King Temple No. 1237, a member of the Corinth High School Booster Club and founder of the Aquarius Federated Club.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at South Corinth School with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth W. Carter officiating. Burial will be in Forrest Hill Cemetery. Patterson Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include a nephew reared in the home, Arvin Harris; four brothers, William E. and Brenda Harris, Wayne Holland and Freddy Holland, all of Paducah, Ky., and Eddie Howard and Iris Harris of Corinth; two sisters, Mary Lou Harris-Johnson of Corinth and Judy Kirk of Boliver, Tenn.; special nephews, Demere, Eddric and Byron; special nieces, Maya, Brandy, Cynthia, Brenetta and Heather; a special great-nephew, Shauntarius.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Ed and Lorene Harris; two brothers, Willie Dee Harris and Willie Holland; and her grandparents, Clemson and Elmer Orr, and Clovis and Viola Harris.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at City Road CME Church.

 

CARROLL BRINSON JACKSON

Carroll Brinson, 87, of Hawthorne Drive, a retired advertising executive and author of Jackson, A Special Kind of Place and a number of local biographies and corporate histories, died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at the State Veterans Home. Visitation is 5 - 7:30 p.m. today at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home on High Street and 9 a.m. Thursday at St. James Episcopal Church. A funeral mass will be said 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church with entombment in Lakewood Memorial Park.

Mr. Brinson was a native of Monticello. He was a graduate of DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind., where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. After serving as Brinson air navigations officer with the Navy during World War II, he joined Marks & Neese Advertising Agency (later Gordon Marks & Company). He received the Silver Medal Award from the Advertising Club of Mississippi and the Advertising s Federation of America for creative excellence and service to his community. He was past president of the Advertising Club of Mississippi.

He worked for many years as a volunteer in promoting the arts in Jackson. He served on the boards of the Jackson Symphony Orchestra Association, the Jackson Opera Guild as its chairman, Jackson Civic Arts Council as president. He was a long time board member of the American Red Cross.

After retiring from Gordon Marks, he launched his second career with the publication of his first book, The First Fifty/The Story of Deposit Guaranty National Bank. His second book, Jackson, A Special Kind of Place, was written as a bicentennial project of the City of Jackson. Other books were The Stuart C. Irby Company, Always a Challenge: Mississippi Power & Light Company's First Sixty Years, A Tradition of Looking Ahead. The Story of Bryan Foods, More Than a Good Businessman: The Story of Warren Hood, Our Time Has Come: Mississippi Embraces Its Future, A Tradition of Caring: Mississippi Baptist Medical Center's First Eighty Years and Arthur C. Guyton: His Life, His Family, His Achievements. Mr. Brinson is fisted in the 21st edition of Who's Who in the South and Southwest, a publication of Who's Who in America. He was a former member and director of the Rotary Club of Jackson and a Paul Harris Fellow of that organization. He was a communicant of St. Andrew's Episcopal Cathedral.

Survivors include: wife, the former Barbara Henry of Jackson; son, Thomas Carroll Brinson of Islip, N Y.; daughters, Barbara Marie Brinson, Kate Houston and Meg Outlaw, all of Jackson, and Beth Brinson of Waynesville, N. C.; two grandsons; six granddaughters: and two great-grandsons.

Pallbearers are Jonas Outlaw, David Crenshaw, Bryan Houston,Chris Green, John Anderson Jr., John Gwaltney, Steve Smith and Joe Daly.

CHRISTELL L. JACKSON

BALDWYN - Christell L. Jackson, 70, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, at the North Miss. Medical Center in Tupelo. She was a member of the Mt. Nebo CME Church, where she was president of the Usher Board, a member of the Stewardess Board and a member of the Hostess Committee. She was also a member of the Missionary Society.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Mt. Nebo CME Church with the Rev. Edward E. Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Agnew and Sons Funeral Home of Baldwyn is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her husband, James C. Jackson of E. St. Louis, Ill.; two daughters, Yolanda Jackson of Guntown and Malena Jackson of St. Louis, Mo.; two sons, Bryan Jackson and Clinton Jackson, both of St. Louis, Mo.; one brother, Dond T. Stewart and wife, Jackie, of E. St. Louis, Ill.; one sister, Bessie Mae Dowdry of Baldwyn; two Godchildren, Jeffery Dodger of Badwyn and Christopher Jackson of E. St. Louis, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Prentiss Steward and Willie Barnes Stewart; one sister, Laverne Calomese; and one son, Clifford Jackson.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family hour will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to services.

 

DORIS G. JACKSON

IUKA - Doris G. Jackson, 74, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis. She was a member of the Iuka Baptist Church. She was a former employee of International Minerals Accent Plant and of Pepperidge Farm Bakeries, both in Chicago. She was a very dedicated wife and mother, who enjoyed caring for others.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka with Bro. Jim Holcomb officiating. Burial will be in Snowdown Cemetery in Iuka.

Survivors include a son, Jim Jackson of Collierville, Tenn., and an adopted daughter and Jim's wife, Rita Jackson; two brothers, Lester Thorn and Layton Thorn, both of Tuscumbia, Ala.; a sister, Leona Curtin of Iuka; three grandchildren, Jamie Jackson of Lancaster, S.C., Laura Jackson-George of Memphis and Sharon Jackson of Collierville, Tenn.; four great-grandchildren, Steven Jackson, Cris Bivens, Taylor Nichole Jackson and Adrianna George.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Alfred Jackson Jr., and her parents, Henry W. and Ethel Thorn.

ERIA I. JACKSON

Eria I. Jackson, 79, of Booneville, died Thursday, April 25, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville after a brief ill­ness.

Services were Saturday, April 27, at 2 p.m. at McMillan Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Rickey Kelly officiating. Burial was in Booneville Cemetery.

Mrs. Jackson was retired from Christian's Florist. She was a member of East Booneville Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by one son, Larry Floyd; and one brother, Boyce King.

She is survived by her husband, Duel L. "Buster" Jackson; two daughters, Linda Scott of Booneville and Brenda Cochran of Corinth; one stepdaughter, Laura Jackson of Atlanta, Ga.; two sons, Terry Floyd of Fayetville, Ark., and Rickey Floyd of Booneville; one stepson, Lamar Jackson of Huntsville, Ala.; three sisters, Jettie Floyd of Kilmichael, Miss., Ladennis McCoy of Wheeler and Jimmie Massey of Booneville; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

 

 

FRED M. JACKSON

Fred M. Jackson, 85, of Marietta, died Saturday, Aug. 31, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Baldwyn, following an extended illness.

Services were Monday, Sept. 2, at Gilmore Chapel Church near Kirkville with the Revs. Billy Allen and Dale Glen officiating. Burial was in Marietta Methodist Church Cemetery. Salts Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jackson was a life-long resident of Prentiss County and a member of the Church of God of Prophecy.

He is survived by one son, Leborn Jackson of Marietta; two sisters, Mrs. Jessie McAnally of Marietta and Mrs. Hattie Dobbs of Booneville; and six grandchildren.

 

JOYCE JACKSON

BOONEVILLE ‑ Jane Joyce Holden Jackson, 68, died Monday, Jan.3 2000, at Jackson‑Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tenn., after an extended illness. She was born Sept. 23, 1931, in Fraley, Ala; she was a homemaker. She was a member of Ramer Baptist Church in Ramer, Tenn., and the Eastern Star in Memphis. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening and bird watching.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today al Booneville Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tim Tudor and Bro David Heg officiating. Burial will be in Candler's Chapel Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband of 30 years, W. E. "Jack" Jackson. four stepchildren, Shirley Davis and her husband, Jimmy, of Booneville, Charles Jackson of Memphis; Char­lotte Jackson of Waco, Texas, and Glenn Jackson of Memphis; one brother‑in‑law, Joseph Jackson of Booneville, one sister‑in‑law, Dorothy Mahler of Corinth. Pallbearers will be Charles San‑ ford, Earnest Knight, Steve Henson, Butch Lambert, Michael Davis, Kenny Davis, Jeremy Jackson and Jared Jackson.

JANET WALKER JACKSON

Janet Walker Jackson, 65 of Iuka, died Wednesday, January 12, 2000 at the Iuka Hospital.  She was a lifelong member of Snowdown United Methodist Church, an emergency room nurse for 35 years in Akron and Alliance, OH before retiring in Iuka.  She was preceded in death by her father, Herbert Walker.

She is survived by her husband, Glenn Jackson of Iuka, Ms; her mother, Flora Walker of Iuka, three sisters: Geneva Ewing of Counce, Tn., Barbara Jean Balcom of Corinth, Ms and Gail Walker of Clarkston, MI; two brothers, William W. Walker of Pell City, AL and Bobby Walker of Iuka, Ms; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 4:30 -9:00 p.m. Thursday, January 13, 2000
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Friday January 14, 2000 at the Snowdown United Methodist Church. Rev. Lester Shows officiating.

JEFFREY JACKSON

BOONEVILLE – Jeffrey Lamar Jackson, 53, died Thursday, April 22, 2004, at Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth. He was born June 6, 1950, to Chester Eugene and Helen Silva Jackson. He was a truck driver for Corinthian Furniture in Corinth. He served as chief deputy sheriff of Prentiss County under four different sheriffs. He graduated with honors from the Mississippi Law Enforcement Academy. He graduated with honors from the Peace Corps. A loving father, husband, son and grandfather who dedicated his life to helping others, he will be greatly missed and loved by all who knew him.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Booneville Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Brandon Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Jumpertown Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Glenna Henderson Jackson; three daughters, Elana Garvin and husband, Rick, of Pensacola, Fla., Lorie Trimble and husband, Joey, and Karla Shumpert and husband, Archie, all of Booneville; four sons, Kevin Henderson and wife, Sherry, Keith Jackson, Kirby Jackson and wife, Gina, and Kerry E. He was preceded in death by his father, Chester Eugene Jackson, and a brother, Milton “Buddy” Applegate.

CORINTH - Joe Henry Jackson, 87, died Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, at the Magnolia Regional Health Center. He was a member of the Church of God. He was retired from the City of Corinth Waste Management Department. He enjoyed hunting, and he loved his family and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at the Magnolia Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with Bro. Wallace South and Bro. Mike Tieken officiating. Burial will be in Holly Cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, Willie Joe Jackson and wife, Martha, of Corinth, and Larry Jackson and wife, Deborah, of Rienzi; three daughters, Mary Elaine Wilbanks Davis of Corinth, Martha "Bonnie" Dixon Braddock of Rienzi and Roberta Duncan and husband, Rufus Jr., of Jacinto; 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Ota Mae Maynard of Corinth; a nephew, Richard "Jr." Walls and wife, Mary Buena, of Corinth; a niece, Sue Knighton of Corinth.

He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Jackson; his mother, Lena Fields Jackson; the mother of his children, Martha Jackson Rinehart; a son, Alton Eugene Jackson; a daughter, Kathryn Butler; a grandson, Henry Dixon; and two sisters, Clarice Walls Fowler and Viola Jackson.

MARIETTA - Kathryn B. "Kaye" Jackson, 63, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004, at her home after a brief illness. She was a factory worker and attended First Apostolic Church in Booneville.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at McMillan Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Eldon McVey and Bro. Teddy McVey officiating. Burial will be in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery near Iuka.

Survivors include her husband, James E. Jackson; a stepdaughter, Linda Sue Hunkapiller of Marietta; a stepson, James Edward Jackson of the Blackland community; a sister, Glenda Wilson of Wisconsin; four stepgrandchildren, six stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, J. B. Nunley.

KENNETH FILES JACKSON

Kenneth Files Jackson 76, of Moore's Mill community, died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at the North Mississippi Medical Cen­ter in Tupelo.

Services were Friday, June 2, at 3 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home chapel in Belmont with the Rev. Jack Maroon and Pastor Jim Hol­land officiating. Burial was in Belmont Memory Gardens.

Mr. Jackson was a native of Belmont and was owner of Kenneth Jackson Roofing Co. in Memphis for 25 years. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy serving in World War II and a Merchant Seaman for 11 years. He was a member of Red Bud Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ferne Jackson of Dennis: one sister, Jane Thrasher of Booneville; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were John Holland, Mark Merrily Stephen Moore, Kevin Holley, Mark Henry, Kerry Thrasher, Ralph Lee and Steve Holley.

LENNETTA M. JACKSON

BELMONT - Lennetta M. Jackson, 50, died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2005, at the North Miss. Medical Center. She was born March 1, 1955, in Red Bay, Ala., and was a member of the Calvary Family Worship Center. She was an employee of the Itawamba County Times in Fulton and the Red Bay News for 32 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Govner and Era Moxley, and two brothers.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at the Calvary Family Worship Center with Bro. Gene Cooley and Bro. Mose Tipton officiating. Burial will be in the Berry Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home of Red Bay is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her husband of 24 years, James Jackson of Belmont; one son, David Jackson of Belmont; four sisters, Azelee Kelton and husband, Murl, Evanell Garrison, Elizabeth Renfroe and husband, Ralph, and Lenneth Pounders and husband, Jerry, all of Golden; a sister-in-law, Pat Carnathan and husband, Jerry, of Tishomingo; two brothers-in-law, Jerry Jackson and wife, Ann, of Tishomingo, and Terry Jackson of Dennis; many nieces and nephews.

BOONEVILLE - Lera Morine Jackson, 63, died Monday at the North Mississippi Medical Center. She was a housewife and a member of the Marietta Church of God of Prophecy.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Marietta Church of God of Prophecy with the Revs. Jimmy Hunter and Robert Lewis officiating. Burial will be in the East Marietta Cemetery. Salts Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

LILLIAN JACKSON

GOLDEN - Lillian Rethie Jackson, 94, died Monday, April 14, 2003, at her home in Golden. She was the pastor of the Church of God at Palestine for 50 years. She was the widow of the Rev. General Edgar Jackson.

Services will be at 7 p.m. today at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Red Bay, Ala., with the Rev. J. E. Jackson and Bishop Harvey Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Survivors include three daughters, Cletta Priscilla Mae Miller and husband, M. D., and Shirley Ruth Cody, all of Red Bay, Ala., and Helen Rebecca Jean Ray and husband, Douglas, of Golden; a son, the Rev. Joseph Emanuel Jackson and wife, Jearl Dean, of Haleyville, Ala.; a sister, Birdie Barnes of Altoona, Ala.; a brother, Paul Gentry of Booneville; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

MALVIN JACKSON

BOONEVILLE - Malvin Q. Jackson, 78, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at his home. He was born Jan. 8, 1925, in Tippah County, the son of Jim Lee Jackson and Emma Wilder Jackson. He was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Palmer Baptist Church in Ripley. He enjoyed trafficking and trading items of all kinds.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Booneville Funeral Home Chapel with Ministers Doug Greenway, 1.A. Thornton and Danny Jackson officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Rest Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; and 11 brothers.

Mary Jackson, 60, died Sunday November 28, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Mrs. Jackson was a homemaker. She was proceded in death by a daughter, Mary Kate Jackson.

Survivors included her husband, Bill Jackson of Iuka; 2 daughters, Sandy Norris of Niles, Il and Theresa Stricklen of Iuka; 1 sister, Janet Rast of Iuka; 2 brothers, Bobby Dennis and Jimmy Dennis both of Phoenix, AZ; and 3 grandchildren, Wesley Sticklen, Christina Stricklen, both of Iuka and David Norris of Champagne, Il.

Visitation will be 5 – 9 p.m. Tuesday, November 30 at Cutshall Funeral Home, Iuka.
Funeral service will be 3:00 P. M. Wednesday December 1 at Cutshall Funeral Chapel.  Rev. G. D. Jones and Rev. Jerry Swimmer will conduct the service with interment in the Snowdown Cemetery.

MARIETTA - Max L. Jackson, 76, died Tuesday, May 3, 2005, at his home after a brief illness. He was a Methodist and a retired farmer.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today at McMillan Funeral Home in Booneville with Minister Calvin Barber officiating. Burial will be in the Sumner's Chapel Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Clester Jackson; a son, Mitchell Jackson and fiancee, Betty Floyd, of Marietta; two sisters, Vivian Kelley of Booneville and Audrey Jackson of Marietta; a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edd and Belle Jackson, and two brothers, Lester and Lee Jackson.

MARIETTA - Melinda Pauline Jackson, 94, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Parkers Chapel Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Irene Thurmond of Byhalia/Memphis; two sons, James L. Jackson and wife, Mary Beth, of Baldwyn, and Paul Jackson and wife, Annette, of Marietta; nine grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ewell Jackson; a granddaughter; a daughter-in-law; a son-in-law; five brothers; and six sisters.

WALNUT - Parlee Vadine Jackson, 91, died Thursday, March 27, 2003, at Beverly Healthcare in Ripley. She was a member of Camp Ground Methodist Church and a retired factory worker.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roger Dale Wilbanks officiating. Burial will be in Camp Ground Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Maggie Bennett Wilbanks.

ROBERT L. D. JACKSON

KIRKVILLE - Robert L. D. Jackson, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born June 29, 1936, in Prentiss County to Vera Fleming Jackson and Arlis Jackson. He graduated from Marietta High School in 1955, and then married Nelda Sue Tabler in 1957. They moved to the Kirkville community in Itawamba County in 1964. He was a member of the Kirkville Baptist Church, a 32nd Degree Mason, a Shriner and a member of the Houston R. C.D. C. He was a retired supervisor at Hunter Douglas in Verona and was an avid fisherman. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. today at the Waters Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jim Irvin officiating. Burial will be in the Kirkville Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Nelda Jackson of Baldwyn; one son, Michael Jackson and his wife, Susan of Tupelo; two granddaughters, Shelby Jackson and Olivia Hester, both of Tupelo; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen Keltner and her husband, Carl, of Belden, and Paulette Nichols and her husband, Charles, of New Site; two brothers-in-law, Jimmy Tabler and his wife, Gevena, of Mantachie, and Billy Tabler and his wife, Shirley, of Booneville; his stepmother-in-law, Jewel Tabler, of Shiloh.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, R. C. Jackson; and a step grandson, Paul Hester.

CORINTH - Rosalee Jackson, a homemaker and member of Pinecrest Baptist Church, died May 5 at Magnolia Regional Health Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Jackson; parents, Homer and Laura Hopper; brothers, Major, Millard and Hurschell Hopper; and sisters Belia Roberts, Celia Smith and Katie Holloway.

She is survived by a sister, Polly Lipford of Corinth; and nieces and nephews.

 

RUBY JACKSON

Ruby Jackson, 67, of Route 1, Marietta, died Monday, Aug. 26, 1985, at the Baldwyn Hospital following a brief illness.

Services were Tuesday, Aug. 27, at 2 p.m. at Marietta Methodist Church. Burial was in Marietta Cemetery. McMillan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jackson was the widow of Troy Jackson. She was a housewife and a Baptist.

She is survived by five sons, James R. Jackson of Waukegan, Ill., Jimmy Dale Jackson of Kenosha, Wis., Robert Jackson and Randle Jackson, both of Marietta and Lloyd Jackson of Tupelo; five daughters, Mrs. Doris Cunningham, Mrs. Christine Rogers and Debra Jackson, all of Zion, Ill., Mrs. Janice Scribner of Verona and Mrs. Lisa McCauley of Baldwyn; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Jackson of Belmont and Mrs. Junie Rogers of Marietta; 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

GLEN - Ruby Burress Jackson, 83, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003, at the Tri County Convalescent Home in Adamsville, Tenn. She was a homemaker and a member of the New Life Assembly. She was retired from Brown Shoe Company in Iuka after 20 years of service. She loved her family and friends and enjoyed praising God and fellowshipping with others.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Magnolia Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with the eulogy given by her great-niece, Vicki Burress Roach, and Charlie Browning. Burial will be in the Glendale Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and other relatives and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, G.B. Jackson; her father, Ruben Burress; her mother, Ozella Tittle Burress; three brothers, Elmer Burress and his wife, Jewel, Olen Burress and Charlie Burress; three sisters, Grace Burress Batavia and her husband, John, Lois Burress Jackson Smith and Alice Burress Grisham and her husband, Everett; some nieces and nephews.

            Travis Leon Jackson, 72, of Aber­deen, died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Funeral services were held Monday, March 19. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery.

GOLDEN - Troy C. "The Well Digger" Jackson, 66, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004, at his daughter's residence. He was born in Tishomingo County and was a construction worker and a well digger. He was a member of Allen's Chapel Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Florence Jackson; a half-sister, Lou Virdie Roberts; and a son-in-law, Louis Tucker.

WALNUT - Walter Clifford "Candyman" Jackson, 81, died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at his residence. He was a member of the Harmony Baptist Church and was the Alcorn County Agency Manager for Mississippi Farm Bureau for 43 years and the first "Million Dollar Producer" of Mississippi Farm Bureau Life Insurance. He was a member of the first Mississippi Farm Bureau Roundtable. He qualified and earned many Roundtable, All Star and Sportsman's Holiday Trips. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II. He attended the University of Louisville on the Navy V-12 program. He loved his garden and his log cabin, "Candyman's Castle", where he entertained his family and friends. He was so very proud of his children and grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Harmony Baptist Church in Walnut with the Rev. Bryan Tatum and the Rev. Lyndel Davis officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Magnolia Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Patty Jackson of Walnut; two sons, Dr. Bill Jackson and his wife, Linda, of Corinth, and Dr. Jim Jackson of Kossuth; three sisters, Agnes Siemens of Plano, Texas, Hazel Perrin of Memphis, Tenn., and Ruth Rapp and her husband, Ernest, of New Albany; six grandchildren, Candace Jackson, Lindsey Jackson, Morgan Jackson, Matthew Jackson, James Jackson and William Jackson; one sister-in-law, Oneda Reinhart and her husband, Louis, of Louisville, Ky.; other relatives and friends.

Rites Today For Wm. Arlis Jackson

Funeral services for William Arlis Jackson of Marietta will be held today (Thursday) at 2:00 p.m. in the Marietta Methodist Church with Bro. T. L. Parker and Bro. Wilburn Sharp officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with McMillan Funeral Directors in charge.

Mr. Jackson died suddenly at his home Wednesday morning. He was a native of Prentiss County, a member of the Marietta Methodist Church, and a farmer. He was 53.

She married Ira Jackson and moved to Texarkana, Texas. She was an employee of the Texarkana Memorial Hospital and a member of the Texarkana Baptist Church. After the death of her husband, she returned to Alcorn County and worked at the Magnolia Hospital before retiring. She enjoyed animals, yard sales and preparing Mexican meals.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Corinth with Bro. Warren Jones and Bro. Pete Wooley officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.

BOONEVILLE – Zelma May Jackson, 88, died Tuesday, March 3, 1998, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville after a long illness. She was born Oct. 12, 1909, near Old Bethel in Itawamba County to John Houston Montgomery and Martha Bell Jones Montgomery. She was a retired beauty shop employee and cook, and a homemaker and seamstress. She was a Methodist.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Booneville Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. James A. Townsend officiating. Burial will be in Sumners Cemetery adjacent to East Marietta Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, James Wrather Kee and his wife, Joyce, of Marietta, and Johnny R. Kee and his wife, Jo of Corinth; two daughters, Martha V. Kee Pharr and her husband, Jack, of Camden, Ark., and Joann Kee Tittle of Booneville; four half sisters, Anna Laura Whitehead and Mamie Louise Campbell, both of the Fairview community, Lena May Ivy of Red Bay, Ala., and Mary Ann Caviness of Wheeler; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Quincy Alford Kee, on Oct. 19, 1948; by her second husband, Lester D. Jackson, on June 18, 1967; a son, Forrest Dean Kee; and an infant son, Tommy Dwight Kee.

DANNY H. (BOONE) JAMES

Danny H. (Boone) James, 48, of Iuka, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at his residence.

Graveside services were Sunday, April 14, at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery with Bro. Jerry Swimmer officiating. Cutshall Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. James was a member of Iuka Baptist Church and was a boilermaker for TVA for 20 years.

He is survived by his mother, Lucille James of Iuka; one son, Casey James of Tishomingo; four brothers, Bobby James, Buddy James and Scotty James, all of Iuka and Larry James of Euless, Texas; two sisters, Betty Hill of Iuka and Janie Dean of Euless, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his father, G. P. James.

Pallbearers were Jerry Clark, Jimmy James, Mark Hill, Michael Plants, Andy Deaton and Joey Dean.

CORINTH - Dorthy Frances Derrick James, 93, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, at the Corinth Health and Rehab Center. She enjoyed working in flower gardens, canning, quilting and crafts. She loved her family and friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Magnolia Funeral Home's Chapel of Memories with the Rev. William Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery.

James and wife, Eva, of Walnut; two daughters, Marie Plymale and husband, James, of Springdale, Ark., and Lil Norton and husband, Sherman, of Anderson, Mo.; six grandchildren, David L. Plymale and wife, Diane, of Mena, Ark., Terry Plymale and wife, Jenny, and Larry Plymale, all of Springdale, Ark., Debbie Cox and husband, Jimmy, of Elm Springs, Ark., and Rhonda Autrey and husband, Jim, of Bakersfield, Calif.; 11 great-grandchildren, Kaitlin James, Jamie Plymale, Tiffany Plymale, Tracy Plymale, Justin Plymale, Crystal Cox, Summer Cox, Ashley Plymale, Rachelle Autrey, Renee Autrey, and Shannon Norton Wilson and husband, David; five great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Annie Bell Scott of Corinth.

She was preceded in death by her father, Oscar Derrick; her mother, Teresa Mason Derrick; her first husband, Claude James; her second husband, Raymond E. James; six brothers, Willie Derrick, Richard Derrick, Frank Derrick, Lester B. Derrick, Rufus Derrick and Rubert Derrick; two grandchildren, Ricky Norton and Jeffrey Norton; and a brother-in-law, David L. Scott.

Pallbearers will be David James Danny Derrick, Marvin Derrick, Robert Scott, Todd Renchr, Adam Ellsworth, Enos Gray and Jerry Derrick.

CORINTH - Lorraine "Ms. Tootie" James, 73, died Thursday, June 2, 2005, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She attended the First Pentecostal Church of Corinth. She collected cow items and enjoyed playing bingo with her friends and attending weekend yard sales.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Pentecostal Church in Corinth with the Rev. Nelson Hight officiating. Burial will be in Corinth National Cemetery. McPeters Inc. Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include three sons, Bill James, and Johnny James and wife, Janet, all of Corinth, and Tommy James and wife, Tammie, of Conroe, Texas; a brother, John Behr of Selmer, Tenn.; two sisters, Helen Gordon of Booneville and Emily Mahalotte of Allentown, Pa.; a niece, Midge Kosienski; five grandchildren, Bill James, Tracey James, Cody James, Jessica James and Stacy James; four great-grandchildren, Dakota Moss, Shala James, Justin James and John James.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald James; a son, Bobby James; her parents, Lester and Margaret Weisse Behr; a sister, Margaret Webber; and two brothers, Sonny Behr and George Taylor.

MARV LOU JAMES

Mary Lou James, 87, died Saturday, March 13, 2004, in Charleston, S.C. She was born May 22, 1916, in Sulligent, Ala., to Mr. and Mrs. J.G. Murray. While growing up, she worked in her parents' boarding house and attended to her younger sisters. After moving to Red Bay, Ala., she attended Red Bay High School and worked at King's Department Store. She married Herbert C. James of Red Bay. They lived in Chattanooga, Tenn., then returned to Red Bay, where she was active in the First Methodist Church and other community activities. She moved to the Charleston, S.C., area after her husband's death.

Services were at 11 a.m. Saturday at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Red Bay. Burial was in Red Bay City Cemetery.

Survivors include a son, Murray James and wife, Carolyn, of Charleston, S.C.; three sisters, Florine Bowen of Belmont, Marjorie Kennedy of Huntland, Tenn., and Mrs. J.M. Page of Red Bay; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren

 

RUTHIA A. JAMES

Ruthia A. James, 84 of Iuka, Ms, died Thursday, May 4, 2000 at the Ross Manor Nursing Home in Dillsboro, Tn. She was a member of South Crossroads Baptist Church near Iuka, and a past member of the Eastern Star located in Detroit MI where she worked approximately 30 years for General Motors. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter James in January, 2000. she was the daughter of the late Robert and Hattie Helton Clayton.
Mrs. James is survived by 6 nieces; Betty Childs of Memphis, Tn. ,Jo Moore of Aurora, IL, Marilyn Huntington of Osgood Tn., Carolyn Herron of Osgood, Tn., Elizabeth Clowers of Florida; 1 nephew, Virgil Rhodes of Paden, Ms and 1 brother, Roy Clayton of Paden, Ms.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. Saturday until service time.

Funeral Service will be 12 noon at the South Crossroads Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

CORINTH - Ryan Samuel James, 26, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at the Baptist Hospital-East Memphis. He was a member of Wheeler Grove Baptist Church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Wheeler Grove Baptist Church with Bro. Kara Blackard and Bro. Pete Wooley officiating. Burial will be in the Wheeler Grove Cemetery. Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Tonya James of Walnut; his parents, Sammy and Patsy Mills James of Walnut; his grandmother, Louise James of Corinth; a host of relatives.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jessie W. James and Birt and Vadeen Mills.

Pallbearers will be Joseph Wilhite, Daniel Cooper, Ben Mills, Clayton Mills, Joey Noah and Justin Waldon.

MARIETTA ‑ Tammy Bennett James, 30, died Saturday, July 15, 2000, at the North Mississippi Med­ical Center in Tupelo. She was an employee of Devaughn's Cabinet Shop in Marietta and was Baptist.

URAL JAMES

Ural Gann James, 95, of Jumpertown, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville after an extended illness.

Services were Saturday, Dec. 1, at 1 p.m. at McMillan Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. James Wooley officiating. Burial was in Jumpertown Cemetery.

Mrs. James was the widow of Orville James. She was a housewife and was preceded in death by one son, Alvin James.

She is survived by one son, Junior James of Jumpertown; two grandsons, Gerald James and his wife, Sharon, of Jumpertown, and Gary James and his wife, Vette, of Booneville; six great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Fay Wages of Booneville.

Pallbearers were Eddie Murphy, Glen Green, John Davis, Paul Johnson, Dolen Nunley and Edward Jackson.

 

JUNIOR JAMES

JUMPERTOWN - William Gerald "Junior" James, 66, died Wednesday April 30, 2003, at his son's home. He was an employee of the Prentiss County 2nd District and a Baptist.

Services will be at 4 p.m. today at McMillan Funeral Home Chapel in Booneville with Bro. James Wooley and Bro. Edward Jackson. Burial will be in Jumpertown Cemetery,

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Gerald and Sharon James of Jumpertown, and Gary and Vette James of Booneville; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; special caregivers, Faye Wages and Olene Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Ural Gann James; a brother, Alvin James; and a grandson, Chris James.

WALNUT - Travis Rainey Janes, 87, died Friday, May 9, 2003, at his residence. He was a trader and a member of the Brownfield Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Shirley Downen of Walnut, Ruby Simmons and her husband, Danny, of Myrtle, and Vera Mauney and her husband, Randle, of Corinth; two sons, Tommy Janes and his wife, Edith, and Bobby Janes and his wife, Tina, all of Walnut; two sisters, Ernestine Luna and Jewel Thomas, both of Memphis, Tenn.; two brothers, J. B. Janes and Floyd Janes, both of Memphis; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lenora McKee Janes; his parents, John and Ethel Janes; four sons, Houston, Larry, Jimmy and Terry; two brothers, Troy and Earl; one sister, Louise; and one grandson, Tony McDonald.

            She was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Christian Jarchow II.

LARRY W. JARNAGIN

CORINTH - Larry W. Jarnagin, 64, died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004, at Magnolia Regional Health Center. He was born March 4, 1940, in Alcorn County to the late William E. and Ruby Jarnagin. He retired in 1999 from Waste Management of Corinth. He was a member of Strickland Baptist Church.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Strickland Baptist Church with the Rev. Harold Burcham officiating. Burial will be in Tuscumbia Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Jewell Wooten Jarnagin of Corinth; a son, Eric Jarnagin of Corinth; a daughter, LeeAnn Mitchell and husband, Steven, of Corinth; two sisters, Dorothy Gatlin and husband, Sanford, and Donna Austin and husband, Lonnie, all of Corinth; his mother-in-law, Ophelia Wooten of Corinth; two sisters-in-law, Bettie Rogers and husband, Collin, of Corinth, and Jean Wilkins and husband, Jesse, of Burnsville; a brother-in-law, Ray Wooten and wife, Patsy, of Corinth; nine nieces, three nephews; four grandchildren, Stanley, McKenzi, Brooke and Lindsey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bobby; and his father-in-law, Herman Wooten.

RAYMOND T. JARVIS

Service Tues. For Raymond Jarvis

Services for former First Judicial District Circuit Judge Ray T. Jarvis were held at 10 am at McMillan Funeral Horns Bro. J. C. Christian formerly of Booneville, and Rev. Sam Mayo of Jackson officiating

Burial was in the Boonville Cemetery.

Judge Jarvis, who was 61 years. He died Sunday, March 15, 1964 at home in Jackson after being ill health for two years.

He was a member of the First Church in Booneville and member of the county and national Bar Association . He retired from office in January, 1963, after serving for 16 years

He had previously served as its County prosecuting attorney and district attorney for the Circuit which is composed of Prentiss Alcorn, Tishomingo, Itawamba Pontotoc, Lee and Monroe County.

He returned to the University of Mississippi to gain his law degree.

Judge Jarvis taught in Prentiss County Schools and served as superintendent of the New Site in Prentiss County. He also served as a member of the Prentiss County School Board and had served as Prentiss County representative Mississippi Legislature.

His death occasioned many expressions of regret and sorrow from people and leaders in various professional fields and hundreds in their own way paid tribute to a great man all emphasizing the constructive value of his achieve and accomplishments.

RIENZI - Brianna Necole Jeffries, 4 months, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005, at her home.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at South Parkway Church of Christ with Bro. Willie Bob Gates officiating. Burial will be in the Rienzi Cemetery. Grayson's Funeral Services of Corinth is in charge of the arrangements.

Ruth Starkey Jeffreys, 79, of Town Creek, AL died Monday, March 1, 2004.

Funeral services were Tuesday, March 2, 2004 at Morrison Funeral Home Chapel in Cherokee. Burial was in Maud Cemetery.

GOLDEN - Bobby Jenkins, 66, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003, at his home. He was a native of Monroe County. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Bethel Church of God.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Belmont with Bro. Grady Davidson and Mike Deaton officiating. Burial will be in Belmont City Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Barbara Jenkins of Golden; three sons, Paul Jenkins and wife, Tania, of Golden, Pastor Tony Jenkins and wife, Kathy, of McLeansboro, Ill., and Bro. Brian Jenkins and wife, Shelley, of Ripley; two sisters, Elois Taylor of Golden and Gevena Scott of Gattman; three brothers, O'Neal Jenkins of Texas, James Jenkins of Moulton, Ala., and Hershell Jenkins of Humboldt, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Jessica Middendorf, Heather Jenkins, Anthony Jenkins, Bethany Jenkins and Joe Brian Jenkins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Ila Jenkins; a sister, Mamer Hankins; and a brother, Marshall Jenkins.

E.R. JENKINS

BOONEVILLE - Edwin Russell "E.R." Jenkins, 87, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville after a long illness. He was born Sept. 3, 1916, in Hillsdale. Formerly of Clarksdale, he retired in 1981 from South Central Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company, where he was an area manager for 33 1/2 years. He graduated from Gulfport High School in 1934 and from Soule Business College in New Orleans in 1935. He received his law degree from Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tenn. From 1939 to 1941 he practiced law in Pascagoula before taking a job with the phone company. During World War II he was manager of the Camp McCain telephone system and at Camp Shelby near Hattiesburg. He was an active member of the Oakhurst Baptist Church, the Clarksdale Rotary Club and the Coahoma County Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the first Recreation Commission and a veteran member of the Clarksdale-Coahoma County Planning Commission and the City Civil Service Commission.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. today at the Booneville Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Cliff Cartwright officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Gulfport.

Survivors include a son, Ed W. Jenkins of Booneville; a brother, Ralph Jenkins of Jackson; a sister, Doris Batson of Atlanta; a grandson, Russell Jenkins of Booneville.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Virgie White Jenkins, in 1992.

JOHN JENKINS

CORINTH - John Henry Jenkins, 42, died Tuesday, May 17, 2005, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He attended the First Church. He was a big fan of Elvis, Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Coleman Family Chapel with Bro. James Voyles officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Church of Christ Cemetery.

Survivors include two brothers, Billy Joe Jenkins and wife, Bobbie, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and James Newton Jenkins of St. Louis, Mo.; a sister, Mary Harville and husband, George, of Corinth; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Curtis and Mary Henry Jenkins; a brother, William Curtis Jenkins Jr.; and a sister, Vera Elizabeth Jenkins.

MARIE JENKINS

Mrs. Marie Jenkins, 78, of Amory, died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001, at Gilmore Memorial Hospital in Amory.

Services were Sunday, Aug. 5, at 2 p.m. at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory with Bro. Pat Ludlam and Bro. Rusty Keen officiating. Burial was in the Masonic Cemetery in Amory.

Mrs. Jenkins born Sept. 10, 1922, in Keiser, Ark., the daughter of the late Oliver Street and Cyrina Huddleston Peek. She was a retired clerk with Monroe County Power. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Amory where she was a member of United Methodist Women, a Sunday School teacher, UNIFY leader and a former member of the administrative board. She was a volunteer with Gilmore Memorial Hospital.

She is survived by three daughters, Brenda Joyce Hamilton of Austell, Ga., Carolyn Shook of Amory and Marilyn Morand of Chapel Hill, N. C.; one sister, Linda Kay Chism of Shreveport, La; seven grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Larry Goudelock, Keith Cumberland, Patrick Shook, Pat Patterson, Michael Hamilton, Anthony Morand, Larry Tillman and Ricky Countryman.

CORINTH - Sophronia Anne Jensen, 66, died Sunday, April 13, 2003, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. She worked in real estate sales. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Known as a gourmet cook, she enjoyed cooking, sewing and caring for others.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at McPeters Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Don Elliott officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Edward Jensen of Corinth; two sons, David Norman and Kenny Norman, both of Corinth; three brothers, Sammy Felker of Frankfort, Ky., Babe Felker of Brownsville, Tenn., and Sidney Felker of Tucson, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Sarah Norman, David Norman Jr., Ashley Norman and Candice Norman; two great-grandchildren, Chase Norman and Braden Norman.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam Felker and Edna Williams Felker.

ROSELAND JETTON

Roseland Jetton, 65, of Fulton, died Friday, March 29, 2002, at her daughter's residence. Funeral services were held Monday, April 1 Burial was in Asbury Cemetery
