LUCY EMBREY

DENNIS – Lucy Mae Dell Embrey, 83, died Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, at the ECM Hospital. She was retired from Blue Bell Mfg. after 32 years and was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. today at the Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Belmont with Bro. Billy Credille officiating. Burial will be in the Joel Cemetery.

Survivors include three sons, James Embrey and his wife, Shirley, of Corinth, Frankie Embrey and his wife, Paulette, of Golden, and Larry Embrey and his wife, Sharon, of Dennis; six grandchildren, Jody Embrey and his wife, Ann, Stephen Embrey and his wife, Tonya, Rachel Lutrell and her husband, Davie, Christy Grissom and her husband, Brian, Darlene Donaldson and her husband, Robert, and Carrie Embrey; 10 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Hollis Smith and his wife, Shirley, of Iuka, Dennis Smith and his wife, Laverne, of Birmingham, Ala., and Travis Smith and his wife, Mattie, of Memphis, Tenn.; one sister, Dot Booth and her husband, J. C., of Memphis.

Pallbearers will be Jody Embrey, Stephen Embrey, Brian Grissom, David Lutrell, Robert Donaldson, Stanley Smith and Mike Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandsons.

 

JOHN EMERSON

BOONEVILLE - John Wesley Emerson, 83, died Monday, Oct 16, 2000, in West Palm Beach, Fla., at the West Palm Beach Hospice Center. He was a retired employee of Waukegan City School District and was a member of the Baptist church He was a former resident of Booneville and had been retired for several years in West Palm Beach. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed traveling.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today al Salts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev Billy Wilson and the Rev Melvin Williams officiating. The eulogy will be presented by Alderman Bobby Goddard and former Booneville Mayor Charles Crabb.

Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Emerson of West Palm Beach; one daughter, Helen Carpenter of Booneville, one sister, Edna Robinson and her husband, Leland, of Grayslake, Ill, one brother, Ralph Cartwright of Zion, III.; three granddaughters, Debra Spencer, Ilene Jones and Lisa Ketcham; four step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wesley Emerson; his mother, One Windham Cartwright; his brother, Hershel Cartwright, and one grand son, Johnny Galbreath.

 

 

EDWARD OTTO ENGLAND

Edward Otto England, 87, of New Site, died Wednesday, July 24, 1985 at the Magnolia Hospital in Corinth following a brief illness.

Services were Friday, July 26, at 2 p.m. Siloam Methodist Church with Cemetery, Jimmy Glover and Johnny Duval officiating. McMillan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements

Mr. England was a Methodist, a Mason and a retired employee of Milton Motors.

He is survived by a son, Edward England Jr. of Kenosha, Wis., grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

 

 

JAMES ENGLAND SR.

BOONEVILLE ‑ James Vernard England Sr., 52, died Saturday. March 4, 2000, at the North Mississippi Med­ical Center in Tupelo after a brief ill­ness. He was a welder and a carpen­ter. He was Pentecostal. He was pre­ceded in death by one brother, John Lewis England.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at McMillan Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Eldon McVey and Bro. Tracey, Arnold officiating. Burial will be in Hodges Chapel Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife. Faith England; two daughters, Patricia Crow­ell and her husband, Gregory Dale, and Laura England, all of Booneville; two sons, James England Jr. and his wife, Sharon, end William England, all of Booneville: five sisters, Cleora Alexander and Betty Hood, both of Alabama, Ned Carey of Indiana, Willie Gray of Missouri and Loreese Kennedy of Salem, Mo.; two brothers, Eldon England of Pisgah and Terry England of South Elgin, III.; five grand­children.

 

 

LAURA HOLLEY "PAL" ENGLAND

Laura Holley "Pal" England, 59, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville.

Services were Friday, Jan. 5, at 1 p.m. at Booneville Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Mike Marecle officiating. Burial was in Booneville Cemetery.

She was born Dec. 16, 1941, in Booneville, the daughter of Cletus Reed Holley and Pearl Windham Holley. She was a Baptist. Prior to becoming disabled, she worked as a secretary. She was a poet and an accomplished artist, with special talent in charcoal art. She was well known for her outgoing personality.

She is survived by a son. Evan England of Louisiana three sisters, Jean Downs and her husband, Oliver, of Booneville, Rose McDonald and her husband, Leroy, of Greensboro. N. C.; and Lila Bailey and her husband, Tom, of Tupelo; seven nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Walter Downs, Terry Downs, Tom Bailey Jr., Mall Wilburn, Jimmy Windham and Ewell Brown.

 

GLEN ENGLISH

BOONEVILLE - Glen Horton English, 85, died Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, at the Magnolia Regional Health Center after an extended illness. She was retired from Prentiss Manufacturing and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was the widow of Sam Frank English.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today at the McMillan Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roy Bostick and the Rev. James Tidwell officiating. Burial will be in the Jumpertown Cemetery.

Survivors include one son, Billy En­glish and his wife, Rhonda, of Corinth; one sister, Eva Geno of Booneville: three brothers, A.I. Horton and his wife, Juani­ta, of Booneville, Thomas Horton and his wife, Faye, of Walnut, and Harbert Horton and his wife, Norma, of High­land, Ind.; five grandchildren, Bruce En­glish, Ashley English, Darla Harland, Tana Carter and Sam English; four great-grandchildren, Kalei English, Nesa En­glish, John Carter and Samantha Carter; one daughter-in-law, Joan English of Booneville; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Thomas Quindon "Homer" English; and two sisters, Eather Smith and Mary Horton.

Visitation will continue today at the funeral home until service time.

 

MITTIE ENGLISH

JUMPERTOWN - Mittie Mae Skaggs English, 91, died Friday, July 11, 2003, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville. She was born June 22, 1912, in Booneville to Frank Skaggs and Mary Francis Cole Skaggs. She married Milton English Jan. 25, 1930. She was retired from Jumpertown School Cafeteria. She was the oldest member of Jumpertown United Methodist Church, where she was an active member all of her adult life. She enjoyed going on church trips with fellow Senior Citizens. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Jumpertown United Methodist Church with Bro. Robert McCoy and Bro. Steve Devore officiating. Burial will be in the Jumpertown Cemetery. McMillan Funeral Home of Booneville is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include two sons, Honnell English and his wife, Peggy, and Larry English and his wife, Sallie; a daughter-in-law, Beth English; one grandson, Randy English and his wife, Betty; three granddaughters, Norma Jo English Jones and her husband, Billy, Kim English Green and Kristen English Herring and her husband, James, all of Jumpertown; five great-granddaughters, Lori Stroupe Sims of Booneville, Mandi English Lewellen and her husband, Jody, of Decatur, Ala., Marcie Whitley, Andrea Green and Hannah English, all of Jumpertown; four great-grandsons, Josh Bennett of Ripley, Kyle English of Booneville, Drew and Clay Herring of Jumpertown; one great-great-granddaughter, Kaylee Sims of Booneville; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Milton English, in 1981; her oldest son, Norman, in 1988; her parents; and a brother, William Skaggs.

Pallbearers will be Dean English, Randy English, Todd English, James Herring, Billy Jones and Billy Wayne Skaggs.

Visitation will continue until 1 p.m. today.

NORMAN D. ENGLISH

JUMPERTOWN - Norman D. English, 62, died Monday, March 9, 1998, at the North Mississippi Medical Center i after a long illness. He was born Nov. 12, 1935. He was a member of Jumpertown United Methodist Church, where he was song leader for many years and lay delegate to the North Mississippi United Methodist Conference. He served as caretaker and secretary for Jumpertown Cemetery. He served as a host parent for many exchange students. He was a clock keeper for Jumpertown High School basketball games for many years. He was an avid fan of Jumpertown High School and Northeast Mississippi Community College basketball and softball. He was a truck driver for Genesco Shoe Co. for 16 years at Ripley, Fulton and Nashville, Tenn. He also was a truck driver for Jumper Oil Co. in Booneville before becoming disabled in 1975. He was preceded in death by his father, Milton English.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Jumpertown United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Russell and the Rev. Robert McCoy officiating. Burial will be in Jumpertown Cemetery. McMillan Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Beth Yates English; his mother, Mittie English of Jumpertown; one daughter, Norma Jo Jones, and her husband, Billy, of Jumpertown; two brothers, tarry English and his wife, Sally, and Honell English and his wife, Peggy, all of Jumpertown; two granddaughters, Marcie Elizabeth Whitley of Jumpertown, and Lori Michelle Stroupe Sims and her husband, Mikel, of Booneville; one great-granddaughter, Kaylee Elizabeth Sims; two nieces, Kirn English Green and Kristen English Herring, both of Jumpertown; one nephew, Randy English of Jumpertown; two great-nieces, Andrea Green and Mandi English; one great-nephew, Kyle English.

VELMA ENGLISH

JUMPERTOWN - Velma Laverne "Nanny" English, 86, died Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at the Landmark Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Booneville. She was born Aug. 18, 1917, in Alcorn County. She was a homemaker and a member of the Crossroads United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing and quilting.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Crossroads United Methodist Church with Bro. W. C. Alexander officiating. Burial will be in the Crossroads Cemetery. Booneville Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include five children, Ray English and his wife, Ann, Patsy Wagnon and her husband, Leo, and Lanette Cummings, all of Jumpertown, Elsie Patrick and her husband, Bill, of Mobile, Ala., and Wilson English and his wife, Edith, of Blackland; three sisters, Louise Robinson and her husband, K. B., of Jumpertown, Bernice Bridges of Booneville and Anita Swader and her husband, Johnny, of Belmont; a brother, Edward Eaton of Jumpertown; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Olen Thomas "Ode" English, in 1997 ; her parents, William Edgar Eaton and Effie Yates Eaton; two sisters, Ruby Eaton and Vera Mae Eaton; four brothers, Ernest, W. E., Gene and William Lee Eaton; one daughter, Ema Jean Wren; four grandchildren, Roy Gene English, Emily Jane Cummings, Ricky Dale Barton and Jeffrey Robert Cummings; and one great-grandchild, Bentley Treavor Wren.

Pallbearers will be Kyle Smith, Andrew Johnson, Tommy Wren, Eddie Patrick, Eric Jones, Shawn Perrigo and Jason Crowe. Honorary pallbearers will be Blake Cummings, Matt Smith, Evan Hannon, Maury Billingsley, Austin Wren, Dakota Wren, Christopher Patrick and Kristian Firzgerald.

DANK ENGLE

BOONEVILLE - Shelby R. "Dank" Engle, 97, died Sunday Oct. 5, 1997, at his home after an extended illness. He lived in the Cairo Community. He was a retired farmer. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Margaret Engle; and one granddaughter, Ola Mae Holder.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the McMillan Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ricky Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the New Lebanon Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Essie Burcham Engle; four daughters, Ann Lowery, Frankie Bates and Maxine Holder, all of the Cairo Community and Dorthy Surratt of Nashville, Tenn.; two sons, Shelby Jack Engle of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and James Robert Engle of LaVergne, Tenn.; 24 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.

 

 

ESSIE ENGLE

Essie Burcham Engle, 95, of the Cairo community, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, at the Tishomingo Manor Nursing Home in Iuka after an extended illness.

Services were Saturday, Sept. 1, at 2 p.m. at New Lebanon Free Will Baptist Church with Bro. Rickey Johnson and Bro. Steve Corbett officiating. Burial was in New Lebanon Cemetery. McMillan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Engle was a housewife, a Baptist and enjoyed sewing, quilting and flower gardening. She was preceded in death by her husband, Shelby R. "Dank" Engle; two daughters, Frankie Bates and Margaret Engle; and two granddaughters.

She is survived by three daughters, Maxine Holder and her husband, Hassell, and Ann Lowrey and her husband, Hoyt, all of Cairo, and Dorothy Surratt and her husband, Jimmy, of Nashville; two sons, Shelby Jack Engle and his wife, Elizabeth, of Smyrna, Tenn., and James Robert Engle and his wife, Rheta, of Lavergne, Tenn.; a son-in-law, John Bates of Cairo, 24 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Holder, Bobby Lowrey, Rusty Bates, James Surratt, Jamie Engle and Jackie Engle.

 

 

MARGARET (PEACHIE) ENGLE

Margaret (Peachie) Engle, 54, of Route 1, Box 334, Booneville, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 1989, at Tishomingo County Hospital in Iuka after a brief illness.

Services were Tuesday, Jan. 2 at 11 a.m. at McMillan Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in New Lebanon Cemetery.

Ms. Engle was a factory worker and a member of New Lebanon Free Will Baptist Church.

She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. R. (Dank) Engle of Booneville; a daughter, Vicki Engle Williams of Atlanta. Ga.; two brothers, James R. Engle of LaVergne, Tenn., and Jack Engle of Smyrna, Tenn.; four sisters, Annie Lowery, Maxine Holder and Frankie Bates, all of Booneville and Dorothy Surratt of Nashville, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.

 

 

NOVIE TIDWELL ENGLE

Novie Tidwell Engle, 91, died Monday, November 10, 1997, at Booneville Baptist Hospital after along illness. She was a lifelong resident of the New Hope community in Prentiss County. She was a homemaker and a member of New Lebanon Free Will Baptist Church. She was the widow of G. W. "Buck" Engle: She enjoyed fishing and doing things for her family.

Services were Wednesday at New Lebanon Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Corbett and the Rev. Benny McKinney officiating. Burial was in New Lebanon Cemetery with McMillan Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors included four daughters, Azsiene Waddle & her husband. Lyonal L. & Maylene Bullock & her husband, Herbert, all of Booneville, Peggy Hendrix & her husband, Travis of Burnsville & Barbara Engle of Tupelo; one son, Cletus Engle & his wife, Annie of Memphis; one brother. Leon Tidwell of Booneville: 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren.

Her grandsons were pallbearers.

 

ALICE ENIS

BALDWYN - Alice Enis, 84, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003, at her residence. She was a homemaker. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Baldwyn, community and civic organizations, past president of the Pilot Club. She served as an inspector of B26 aircraft during World War II. She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and overseas. She loved her country, family and friends, especially her time spent with the "Coffee" Girls at Houston's Drug Store.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Waters Funeral Home with Bro. Robert McCoy and Bro. Kenneth Corley officiating. Burial will be in the Prentiss Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Phillip Enis of Baldwyn; four sons, Jerry Enis and his wife, Jean, of Aberdeen, Fred Enis and his wife, Lola, of Ripley, Andy Enis and his wife, Debbie, of Madison County, and Bill Enis and his wife, Phyllis, of Columbus; one sister, Audrey Mae Searcy of Enterprise, Ala.; one brother, K. V. Rinehart of Tupelo; her grandchildren, J. W. Enis, Candace Enis, Josh Enis, Bryan and Allie Enis, Ryan Enis and Mark Enis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wister and Nettie Bell Rinehart; her sisters, Dora Walton, Flora Carpenter, Verona Burcham, Evelyn Rinehart and Ollie Nicholson; and her brothers, Roy Rinehart, Clippard Rinehart and Ralph Rinehart.

Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

 

BIRDIE ENIS

BOONEVILLE - Birdie Mae Enis, 78, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at the Longwood Community Living Center in Booneville. She was born Feb. 15, 1925, in Lee County, the daughter of George and Nevada Randle Inman. She was a Baptist and a homemaker. She enjoyed fishing, flowers, animals and dolls.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at the Booneville Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Edward Jackson and Bro. Randy Black officiating. Patricia Black will deliver the eulogy. Burial will be in the Old Union Cemetery near Shannon.

Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Red Enis.

Pallbearers will be Lonnie Lee, Gerald James, Keith Lee, Butch Lee, Andrew Lee and Timothy Lee.

Visitation will continue from 8 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

BOONEVILLE - Robert Marcus Enis, 73, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003, at his home. He was a retired farmer and a Baptist. He enjoyed fishing and cooking at the deer camp.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at McMillan Funeral Home with Bro. Edward Jackson and Bro. Randy Black officiating. Burial will be in Jumpertown Cemetery.

Survivors include four sisters, Martha Voyles, Gene Huddleston and Faye Wages, all of Booneville, and Dixie Rash of Earl, Ark.; a brother, Ray Enis of Booneville; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Florence Enis; and two brothers and five sisters.

Pallbearers will be Keith Lee, Jimmy Huddleston, Rocky Estes, Butch Lee, Bobby Voyles, Junior Voyles and Gerald James.

Visitation will be from 2 to 10 p.m. today and until service time Sunday.

BALDWYN ‑ Surena Surratt Enis, 82, died Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, at her daughter's home. She was a retired employee of Blue Bell Manufacturing and a lifelong member of the First Christian Church of Baldwyn

Survivors include two daughters, Virginia Thomas and her husband. Robert, and Olivia Pruitt and her husband, Douglas, all of Baldwyn; two brothers, Ceberon Surratt of Baldwyn and Herman Surratt of Tupelo; grandchildren, Jeff Thomas and Susan, Jackie Paul Thomas and Sylvia, Jim Thomas and Kristy, Jon Thomas, Angela Keen and Clay, Vince Pruitt, Eric Pruitt and Kim, Darren Pruitt and Patti 20 great‑grandchildren, Holly, Anna Lisa and Jenny Grace Thomas, Jessica Thomas, Julie Brooke and Jayla Thomas, Ashley and Emily Thomas, Justin, Jeremy and Christian Thomas, Ashely Woodard, Amanda Pruitt, Lindsay and Katie Pruitt, Ben Pruitt, Kyle Pittman, Chad and Brent James, and Jon Keen.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Bruce Enis; an infant son, Ronald Lawson Enis; a grandson, Joe Thomas; and her parents, T. A. and Minnie Virden Surratt.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Christian Church of Baldwyn building fund in care of Dewayne Newman.

 

 

FERN EPPS

Fern Epps, 72, of Red Bay, Al. died Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at the Red Bay Hospital. She was a native of Oklahoma. She was a factory worker for 36 years and a member of Hall­town Baptist Church.

Services were at 2 p.m. Sat­urday at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Red Bay with Bro. J. C. Hand and Bro. Hollis Boyd officiating. Burial was in Hill­crest Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include her hus­band, Walter Lee Epps of Red Bay; a daughter, Brenda Hutch­eson and husband, Melvin, of Hodges, AL; a son, Tommy Epps and wife, Patty, of Red Bay; a brother, Junior Boyd and

wife, Beatrice, of Golden; four grandchildren, Chris Hutcheson and wife, Claudia, of Redlands, CA, and Brannon Hutcheson and wife, Malinda, Kayla Epps and Jessica Epps, all of Red Bay; a great-granddaughter, Baylee Hutcheson of Red Bay.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Calvin and Myr­tle Boyd; a sister, Virginia Fancher; and three brothers, Omie Boyd, Tommy Boyd and Ray Boyd.

JERRY WARD EPPS

Jerry Ward Epps, 49, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000 at the North Mississippi Medical Center as the result of injuries received in an automobile accident.

He was a native of Mississippi and a member of the Liberty Church of Christ, where he loved to attend worship. He loved children and was joy to his friends and fami­ly. He loved life and had that spe­cial gift of making others smile.

Services were at 2 p.m. Feb. 23, at Liberty Church of Christ in Dennis with Tim Spivy and Jeff Martin officiating. Burial was in Joel Cemetery in Dennis. Deaton Funeral Home of Belmont was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include three sisters, Willard Strickland, and Helen Siebert and her husband, Marvin, all of Tishomingo, and Martha Young of Red Bay, Ala.; three nieces, Debbie Lipford of Garland, Texas, Marsha Lynn Mienzi of South Carolina and Paula Smith of Russellville, Ala.; three nephews, John B. Strickland Jr. of Tishomingo and Jackson, Larry Strickland of Tishomingo and Richard Young of Jacksonville, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ancel and Katie Epps and A. E. Epps Jr.

Pallbearers were Don Mitchell, Jerry Moore, Don Lee, Larry Henry, James Estes Sartain and Benford Pierce.

 

CINDY EPPERSON

TISHOMINGO - Cindy Bailey Epperson, 35, died Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. She was a member of Burgess Creek Baptist Church and a cosmetologist at Virginia's Beauty Shop.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Burgess Creek Baptist Church with Bro. Dwight South and Bro. Allen Jones officiating. Burial will be in Burgess Creek Cemetery. Cutshall Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, O. W. Bailey and Elton Jackson.

RIDGELAND - Marion McCalla Epps, 92, formerly of Corinth and Jackson, Tenn., died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004, at The Arbor in Ridgeland. She was the widow of James M. Epps, formerly of Corinth. For many years they lived in Jackson, Tenn. She was a mother and a homemaker.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. today at Forrest Memorial Park in Corinth with the Rev. Christy Morgan officiating. McPeters Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include two daughters, Sherry Epps Collins of Rienzi and Julie Ann Epps of Canton; a brother, Stanley McCalla of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Louise Phillips of Corinth and Mary Frances Long of Ripley.

 

JAMIE EPTING

GUNTOWN - Jamie Mae Roberts Epting, 74, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born April 10, 1929, in Union County to Troy and Allene Roberts. She was the widow of John Ware Epting, her beloved husband of 51 years, 11 months, and a resident of Lee County.

The Lord called her to be a farmer's wife, homemaker and mother. She devoted her life to working at her husband's side and raising her children. She loved to sew and was an excellent cook, a fact many friends and family can attest to. She loved and was loved by her neighbors and church family. Most of all she was a Christian who loved the Lord. She was a faithful daily Bible reader and had read the Bible through several times. She was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church and a former Sunday school teacher.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 7, 2003, at Zion Hill Baptist Church with Bro. Terry Faulkner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Waters Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

She will be greatly missed by her son, John R. Epting and wife, Mary Ann, of Brices Crossroads; her son, Jimmy D. Epting of the home; her daughter, Joanne E. Whitt and husband, Mark, and stepgrandson, Damian Cooper of Houston; her brother, Ronald Roberts and wife, Ailiene, of Alpine; her sister, Zanie Lee McDonald of New Albany; her sister, Ray Busch and husband, Woody, of Murphy, N. C.; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; an uncle, Glen Millican of Ecru.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Troy and Allene Roberts; her husband, John Ware Epting; and a sister, Jeanette Floyd.

Pallbearers are Trent Roberts, Jim Roberts, Bill Floyd, Brian Busch, Mac McDonald and Roy Prather.

Visitation will be from 4:30 to 8 p.m. today at Waters Funeral Home.

BALDWYN - Jennie Ruth Escher, 75, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at the Baldwyn Nursing Facility after a long illness. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Waters Funeral Home with Bro. Rayburn Richardson and Bro. Kermit Brann officiating. Burial will be in Ingram Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Joe Escher of Baldwyn; a daughter, Jo Ruth Escher of Baldwyn; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sumpter and Cora Gullett Gamble; a sister, Inez Marshall; and three brothers, Boyce Gamble, John Sumpter "Jack" Gamble and Banks Gamble.

EVA ESKRIDGE

BOONEVILLE ‑ Mary Eva Cook Eskridge, 91, died Sunday, December 31, 2000, in Gulfport, following a lengthy illness

Mrs. Eskridge was known throughout all of Prentiss County and north Mississippi for her numerous contributions to the educational field and to the children of our state. Born in Booneville in 1909, she graduated Booneville High School and received her degree in Elementary Education from Mississippi University and Women where she was a member of the Black List social club. She furthered her studies by receiving a master's degree from Peabody College in Nashville, Tenn. She taught elementary school in various towns in North Mississippi before returning to Booneville where she served as Supervisor of Education. Later in life, she served as head director of the MUW Demonstration School and taught at Blue Mountain College

She returned to Booneville as head of the Psychology Department at Northeast Mississippi Junior College where she remained until her retirement in 1974. Mrs. Eskridge once said that her life had been so blessed and that she "never met a student that she did not like." Following retirement, she spent her days working m her garden, spending time with her beloved sister, Maxine, and canning tomatoes with her dear friend Jean Downs. But anyone who knew Mrs. Eskridge knew that her entire life was dedicated to her daughter, Willdora and her two granddaughters and for great‑grandchildren. They were indeed the light of her life.

She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Booneville where she taught Sunday School and was in charge of the Methodist Youth. Prior to moving to Gulfport to live with her daughter, she was a member of the Volunteer Club Sunday School Class, the Booneville Study Club and was an avid bridge player.

She was preceded in death by her, parents, Thomas Alexander and Willie, Dora Fugitt Cook, a daughter Carolyn Maxine Eskridge and two brothers, TA. Cook Jr. and William Thomas Cook.

She is survived by one daughter, Willdora Eskridge Kremer of Gulfport; two granddaughters, Rebecca Kremer Kajdan of Gulfport and Susan Kremer Jones of Rosewell, Georgia: and four great‑grandchildren, Thomas Alexander Kajdan and Harrison Kremer Kajdan of Gulfport and Jonathan Kremer Jones and Mary Hanley Jones of Roswell, Georgia; one sister, Maxine Smith of Booneville

Visitation with Mrs. Eskndge's family will be held at McMillan Funeral Home in Booneville on Saturday, January 6, 2001, beginning at 1 p.m. followed by a memorial service, at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu, of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First United Methodist Church New Life Center.

CORINTH - Clovis Essary, 74, died Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, at the North Mis­sissippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was a retired employee of ITT and a Baptist.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Pete Wooley and the Rev. Warren Jones officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his par­ents, Lee and Ola Essary; two brothers, Troy and Leonard Essary; and a sister, Eva Price.

CORINTH - Lula Lee Vandiver Essary, 70, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born March 21, 1934, in Alcorn County to William Ernest and Roxie Ann Vandiver. She received her education in Alcorn County schools. She worked at ITT and Wurlitzer and in the food industry as cafeteria manager for Alcorn School District and in local restaurants. She was a member of Glendale Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking and craft designing. She was a gentle person who was known for her big smile.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Magnolia Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with Bro. Bill Wages and Bro. Wayne Vandiver officiating. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Essary, a retired auto dealer, died Sunday, May 19, 2002, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was a U. S. Army World War II veteran who served in Germany. A Christian, he was a member of the VFW American Legion Foreign War.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert Essary and Esther Shields Essary; two brothers, Howard Essary and Garvin Essary; his father-in-law, Ben Bragg; and his mother-in-law, Alma Jones Bragg.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Bro. Chester Harrison and Bro. Jim Whitaker officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Olive Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Jewell Murdock Estell of Baldwyn; one son, George William Estell and his wife, Sandra, of Booneville; two grandchildren, William Estell and his wife, Kerry, of Anniston, Ala., and Cynthia Estell of Booneville; two great-grandchildren, Channing and Blake Estell of Anniston.

BOONEVILLE - Angle Irene Estes, 79, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after a brief illness. She was a retired employee of Blue Bell after 35 years of service and was member of Oak Ridge Church of Christ. She enjoyed quilting and gardening. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Estes; and two brothers, Troy and Carl Greene.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Oak Ridge Church of Christ with Minister Mark Lindley and Minister Calvin Barber officiating. Burial will be in Jumpertown Cemetery. McMillan Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

CORINTH - Joseph Gordon Estes, 81, died Saturday, June 18, 2005, at the North Miss. Medical Center in Tupelo. He was a member of Tate Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving as a First Class Radioman. He was a Combat Air Crew Member and received the following medals: Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal, WWII Air Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Presidential Unit Citation and three Purple Hearts. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He had his own business as a store owner.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Magnolia Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with Dr. Gregg Thomas officiating and Charlie Browning presenting the eulogy. Burial will be in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Burnsville with Military Honors.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, O.B. GROVER ESTES JR.

BOONEVILLE - Grover Estes Jr., 83, died Thursday, March 18, 2004, at the Landmark Nursing & Rehab Center in Booneville after a long illness. He was born May 29, 1920, in Itawamba County to the late Grover Estes Sr. and Elizabeth Byars Estes. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater. He was a 1938 graduate of Marietta High School. He attended Northeast Mississippi Community College and graduated from Mississippi State University in 1952 with a degree in agriculture. He has been a farmer and an agriculture teacher in Monroe County, and, at the time of his death, he was retired from the Farmers Home Administration. He was an active member of the Church of Christ and served as an elder of the New Albany Church of Christ.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at McMillan Funeral Home in Booneville with Bro. J. A. Thornton and Bro. Garvis Semore officiating. Burial will be in Booneville Cemetery.

            MOOREVILLE ‑ Hoyle Estes, 80, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at the North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Mooreville, he was born July 26, 1921, to the late Elihu and Lillian Estes. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, a retired brick mason and a member of the Eggville Church of Christ.

            Survivors include his wife, Jane Estes two sons, David Estes of Corinth, and Len Estes and his wife, Monica, of Mooresville; five sisters, Geneva Melko of Ecru, Mary Hallman of Tupelo, Maynor Blackburn of Memphis, Margie Cook of Eggville and Martha Draper of St. Louis, Me; three brothers, Tommy Estes and Joe Howard Estes, both of Mooreville, and Willie Estes of Dorsey; four grandchildren, Chris, Shannon, Morgan and Kylie Estes.

            He was preceded in death by two sons, an infant child and Ted Wayne; a sister, Janice Estes; and four brothers, Robert Estes, Fred Estes, Holder Estes and Hugh Allen Estes,

VADA LEE ESTES

TUPELO - Vada Lee Estes, 87, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, at Rosewood Residence in Belden. She was born April 29, 1917, in Sumrall to the late Billy and Ora Barr Rayborn. She was a graduate of Pearl River Junior College and Draughn Business School in Tupelo. She retired from the General Adjustment Bureau after 36 years. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church for more than 60 years and served in numerous church positions including the choir, superintendent of the junior department, pastoral search committees and the Lee County Food Pantry. She was president of the North Mississippi Insurance Women's Association and a Red Cross volunteer at the North Mississippi Medical Center. In her spare time she was an avid reader and enjoyed playing bridge and working crossword puzzles.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Lee Memorial Park with Dr. Randy Von Kanel officiating. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Estes Russell of Corinth; six grandchildren, Robert Shay Russell and wife, Holley, of Fulton, Allison Russell Laher and husband, Rob, of Corinth, Amanda Lee Russell Thacker and husband, Bill, of Calhoun City, Jessica Lane Russell of Dam Neck, Va., Frank Ryan Russell and wife, Amber, of Jacksonville, N.C., and Anna-Lauren Estes Russell of Corinth; four great-grandchildren, Reed Russell, Jack Laher, Frank Laher and Lucy Laher, all of Corinth; three brothers, Barney Rayborn and wife, Jean, of Montgomery, Marvin Rayborn and wife, Nina, of Jackson, and Talmadge Rayborn and wife, Rena Jean, of Waveland.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Robert Carl Estes; her parents; a sister, Alma Jean Grayson; and two brothers, Dallas and Tandle Rayborn.

Pallbearers will be George Scott, Bob Scott, Don Grayson, Lawrence Hankins Jr., Tommy Collins, Lenard Rayborn, David Rayborn, Tommy Rayborn and Kenneth Rayborn.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time today at the funeral home.

WILLODEAN SPENCER ESTES

Mrs. Willodean Spencer Estes, 73, of Oxford, died Friday, March 30, 2001, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford.

Services were Monday, April 2. at   11 a.m. at Wailer Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Greg York and Minister Jim Estes officiating. Graveside services were Monday at 3 p.m. at Booneville Cemetery.

Mrs. Estes was born in Marietta, the daughter of John L. Spencer and Tennie Lindsey Spencer. She was a member of the Oxford Church of Christ where she was active in the shut-in visitation. She loved to work in the nursery with Wilma Davis at the Oxford Church of Christ and did so for many years. She enjoyed sewing.

She is survived by her husband, John Byron Estes of Oxford; three daughters, Alice Faye Allen of LaGrang, Tenn., Mary Katherine Strawn of Houston, Texas and Becky Lynn Killen of Oxford; a sister, Lola Spencer Chambers of Fulton-, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

 

CHRISTINE L. EUBANKS

CORINTH - Christine L. Eubanks, 78, died Monday, March 22, 2004, at the Magnolia Regional Health Center. She was born Aug. 24, 1924, in Brownsfield to the late Arthur Vann and Effie Sullivan Luna. She grew up in Walnut and moved with her family to Corinth in 1966. She was a waitress at Kathy's Steak House for many years. An active member of Oakland Baptist Church, she had a strong Christian faith. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and helping others.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Oakland Baptist Church with Dr. Randy Bostick officiating. Burial will be in the Valley of the Dogwood Cemetery. McPeters Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include a son, Danny Lee Eubanks of Corinth; a daughter, Mary Ann Davis of Corinth; a brother, A. V. Luna and wife, Bonnie, of Hamlett, Ind.; a grandson, Brad Eubanks of Corinth; three nieces, two nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sons, Lester Eugene Eubanks, Hugh Edwards Eubanks and Robert W. "Bobby" Eubanks.

Pallbearers will be Larry King, Donald King, Butch Carmichiel, Billy Thomas, Claude Yeager and Truman Stockdale.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

CARY EVANS

NEW SITE - Cary Taylor Evans, 82, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 1998, at Jaquith Nursing Home in Pearl. She was born in Itawamba County, Dec. 12, 1915, to Vernie Jessie and Notie Jones Taylor. She was a retired factory worker. She was a member of the New Bethel Church of Christ.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Senter Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Lee Cole officiating. Burial will be in the Sandy Springs Cemetery.

Survivors include 11 nieces and 13 nephews.

Pallbearers will be James McDow, Vernie Crow, James Cleveland, Troyce Taylor, David Mitchell and Darrell Mitchell.

Visitation will be from 5 until 9 p.m. today.

 

JUDY ANN EVANS

BURNSVILLE - Judy Ann Evans, 47, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, at the Iuka Hospital. She was a member of Berea Church of Christ. She was a loving mother and a friend to all.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Glen with Jim Estes officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Survivors include her mother, Dannie Davis of Burnsville; two sons, Corey Davis of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Dustin Evans of Burnsville; a daughter, Angel Evans of Burnsville; a brother, Jerry Davis of Corinth.

She was preceded in death by her father, W. C. Davis.

Pallbearers will be Leon Powers, Gary Orick, Corey Davis, Earnest Rorie, John Rorie and James Lovelace.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

RED BAY, Ala. - Flora Jean Evetts, 74, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at the Red Bay Hospital. She was a native of Alabama. She was a retired beautician after 30 years and a member of Faith Baptist Church in Moulton, Ala.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Red Bay Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Scott officiating. Burial will be in Joel Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home of Red Bay is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her husband, James C. Evetts of Red Bay, Ala.; five daughters, Lonette Smith and her husband, Wayne, of Golden, Patricia Lovall and her husband, James, of Georgetown, Ill., Glinda Strickland and her husband, Billy, of Red Bay, Debbie Pfeiffer and her husband, Phillip, of Searcy, Ark., and Donna Bradley and her husband, Frank, of Houston, Texas; five sisters, Stella James of Cullman, Ala., Bonnie Jones, Geneva Tunnello and Catherine Story, all of Birmingham, and Billie Ruth Pfeiffer, of Huntsville, Ala.; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, William G. Butler; her mother, Minnie T. Butler; and a brother, Joe Butler.

Pallbearers will be James D. Evetts, Dexter Evetts, Jacob Pfeiffer, Joshua Pfeiffer, Joey Nunley and Rodney Strickland.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at the church from 9 a.m. to service time Wednesday.

CORA EWELL

BOONEVILLE - Cora Brewer Ewell, 99, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, at The Landmark in Booneville. she was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Booneville, where she taught Sunday School for over 50 years. She was the widow of Henry Grady Ewell who passed away in 1977.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the McMillan Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Lynn Jones and Bro. Tom Rayburn officiating. Burial will be in the Booneville Cemetery.

Survivors include one niece, Betty Ann Rodgers of Decatur; five nephews, Albert P. Brewer of Birmingham, Harry L. Brewer of Hampton, Va., Joe F. Brewer of Florence, Robert D. Brewer of Mobile, and Millard A. Brewer of San Francisco, Calif.

Pallbearers will be Travis Childers, Wayne Sappington, Earl Milsaps, Hubert McDaniel and Marshall Dickerson. Honorary pallbearers will be Allen Norton, Howard Long and Jim Davis.

Visitation will be one hour before service time on Tuesday.
