Theron Davis Wed Jun 4 21:53:11 1997
I am writing my dissertation about MONROE COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI and that region of NORTHEAST MISSISSIPPI from about 1700 to 1875 and am searching for family and personal papers of citizens of Monroe County between 1821 and 1875 that are in the private possession of descendants of those same citizens. I apologize for the unusual nature of this query and I understand that it falls outside the range of normal queries; however, in all my research I have found that while academic and state manuscript archives might hold much information about Monroe County and the personal papers of some of her citizens, the best resources are the genealogists who have made it their business to know the county's history backwards and forwards through the eyes of their ancestors. If any personal and family papers exist in private possession, you will be able to direct me to them (as Mrs. Helen Crawford of Hamilton, Monroe Co., MS, has occasionally done -- God bless her). Thank you sincerely, Theron W. Davis Ph.D. candidate University of Southern Mississippi <[email protected]>

McGEE, MARTIN
McGEE and MARTIN are the surnames of interest to me. J.W. McGEE married GERTRUDE MARTIN in Starksville MS. june 8th,1887.GERTRUDE died 1928 and J.W. McGEE died 1911. They are buried together in the Oddfellows cemitary Starkville. J.W. is marked on the tomestone as REV. Thier daughter MARY O. McGEE, marrried my father JOSEPH SILER around 1917/18. She died in Calif 1925 at age of 28. Gertrude's parents where LEWIS MARTIN and ELIZABETH , maiden name unknown. Areas of interest for me are; what was ELIZABETH's maiden name, what church was J.W. a preacher with, and the date and place of MARY's marrage. JOSEPH was in the US ARMY as a cook with the FIRST DEPOT BRIGADE, maybe at ABERDEEN. I also need a line on J.W's parents. he may not have come from Starkville to start with. I have visited your fair city and surrounding area and have enjoyed myself greatly. I visited your genealogy section and wished I had more time to research your fine collection. Thank you in advance for any items you might find. If there are any of the family in the area,I would like to make contact. BERNARD J SILER
