Our next meeting is July 24, 2021 at the Genealogy Room at 2:30 at which Barry McCain, noted local historian and author will speak. From a group of Highland Scots that immigrated to Ireland then somehow found their way to Mississippi, Barry McCain takes a wealth of family history from the 1600s and weaves it into a wonderful book about the evolution of the branches of his family. Holding a degree in history from the University of Mississippi and a lifetime of experience in world travel, he has turned an interest in genealogy into a career studying how research in records can be augmented with more recent developments in DNA tracing to locate portions of families who “didn’t take the chance” coming to the new world. Bringing them together with their American relatives adds a delightful connection for people to better understand from “whence they came.”
