William Thomas Turner, 63, of Gautier, MS died January 6, 2010, in Ocean Springs. A native of Polk County, NC, he was the son of the late Albert W. Turner of Polk Co., and Ruth Greene Rose of Baltimore, MD. Preceded in death by a sister, Kay Yingling and brother, Jack Turner. Mr. Turner served 9 years in the U.S. Army and was a highly decorated Viet Nam Veteran. He remained politically active with veterans' affairs throughout his life and was instrumental in the establishment and design of the Viet Nam War Memorial in Washington, DC. After leaving the Army, Mr. Turner served as a police officer for the City of Baltimore.

Mildred Earlene Joiner Dickerson, 83, of Pascagoula passed away January 7, 2010 at home. She was born March 27, 1926 in Meridian, MS and has been a long time resident of Pascagoula. She was a member of Wade Baptist Church. Preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Oscar T. Dickerson of Virginia; two grandsons, Ricky Sudduth and Jarrett Griffis; brother, Willard Joiner; sister, Claudine Goss.

Mary Evelyn Wiltz Clemens, 90, passed away January 14, 2010, in Amory, MS where she moved after Katrina. The daughter of Andrea Marie Dugas Wiltz and Septien Wiltz, born 1/27/1919 in Maumau, LA. Widowed at age 50, she went to work for Litton (now Northrop Grumman) where she worked until she was 85 - never missing a day's work. Preceded in death by her husband, Julee Clemens; her parents; sister, Antoinette Wilts Blackmon; brothers, Alphonsus (Gammy) Wiltz and Dauterive (Toby) Wiltz. James Manning Cain, 89, a resident of Ocean Springs, MS, died January 15, 2010 at home. Mr. Cain was born in Canton, MS on June 22, 1920, to Robert and Minnie Louise Cain. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps, and flew 51 missions as a pilot in a B-17 bomber in the European Theater during World War II. He also served in the Korean Conflict, retiring from the Judge Advocate General's Office of the Air Force as a Major. Preceded in death by his mother, Minnie Caldwell Cain and his father, Samuel Robert Cain; and his brothers, Frederick, Robert, and Billy Cain. Kenneth "Curley" Farris, 82, of Hattiesburg, passed away Jan. 18, 2010, in Ocean Springs. Mr. Farris was a veteran of the US Navy during WWII. From 1962 until retirement 28 years later, he coached baseball and football for Mississippi Gulf Coast Community where he also served as Athletic Director. The school baseball field was named in his honor. Previous to his coaching career at MGCCC, he also coached at numerous high schools in MS. He was a member of the Hall of Fame of the Mississippi Association of Junior Colleges, the National Junior College Athletic Association, and the Mississippi Association of Coaches. Preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Clay Farris and his brother, Vernon Farris.

MSGT. Calvin B. Glover (Ret.), 74, was employed by Ed Mayo Jr. High School (Moss Point, MS) as a science educator and department chair. A wake held at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Biloxi. Mrs. Smith was a member of Escatawpa Baptist Church and taught the Senior Adult Ladies Sunday School Class for many years. Preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Maud Dickson Lynd ; two brothers, Loren "Runt" Lynd and H.V. "Legs" Lynd and a sister, Laverne Broadus.

Dr. Robert J. Eustice, 84, of Ocean Springs, MS, died January 20, 2010. He founded his Family Practice Dental Clinic in Biloxi in 1955 and treated patients there for 55 years. Robert James Eustice was born March 28, 1925 in Birmingham, AL. He was the only child born to Robert Richard Eustice, born July 7, 1899 in Galena, Illinois and his wife Ethel Mary Blades.

Mr. W.L. "Billy" Witchen, 84, of Pascagoula, MS passed away January 21, 2010. Born April 18, 1925 to the late John Alexander and Lela Ella Broadus Witchen Sr. in Pascagoula. Mr. Witchen was part of two firsts for local governments, as a councilman on the first ever city manager-council form for the city of Pascagoula in 1969 and also as a member of the first board of directors for the MS Regional Wastewater Authority which was established in 1980. He served 8 years as a councilman and 27 years as a director for the Jackson County Wastewater Authority. Preceded in death by his first wife, Doris K. Witchen; four brothers, John, Ernest, Bobby and Dr. Jack Witchen; four sisters, Ruth Boudreaux, Louise Ezell, Eunice Walker, and Ruby Jegel Witchen.

Mrs. Clara Jones Brazley, 84, passed away January 22, 2010, in Terrytown, LA; born July 21, 1925 in Collins, MS to the late Amie and Bob Jones. Clara was the youngest of eight children. She moved to Pascagoula in the late 40's with one child, where she met and married the late Harold Brazley. Mrs. Brazley accepted Jesus at an early age, at Shady Oaks Baptist Church, in Collins and continued her faithful works for 35 yrs, at Antioch Baptist Church, in Pascagoula. Vincent Joseph Castigliola, 88, died May 11, 2010, in Pascagoula, MS. He was born November 13, 1921 in New Orleans and moved to Gautier in 1955 with his family to operate Castigliola Shrimp Company with his brother George. In the 1960's, they ventured into the restaurant business and built "The Pier" in Gautier which was destroyed by Hurricane Camille. With the decline of the seafood business, Vincent established Bow To Stern Marine, Inc., a ship chandlery. Preceded in death by his parents, Vincent Castigliola and Georgianna Ehlers Castigliola; his brothers, Salvador "Brother" Castigliola and George F. Castigliola and sister, Christine McDonald.

Mrs. Ruth Newport Carlisle, age 102, of Ocean Springs, MS, died June 5, 2010, in Ocean Springs; born in Shawnee, OK., was a longtime resident of Zachary, LA. and a coast resident for fifteen years. Mrs. Carlisle, along with her husband, Reverend Robert Lee Carlisle, Jr., was a retired Southern Baptist Miss-ionary, serving in Montevideo, Uruguay, for thirty years. She was a former school teacher, and along with her husband, founded what is now Uruguayan Baptist Theological Seminary. Mrs. Carlisle was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ocean Springs. Preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Robert Lee Carlisle, Jr.; parents, Walter and Nell Mitchell Newport and two brothers, Guy Newport and Walter Newport.

Frank L. Verner, 83, known to all as "Capt Frank" passed away June 8, 2010 at his home.He spent 40 years at sea commanding small vessels to ocean going cargo and passenger vessels. His ship was toured by President Jimmy Carter and First Lady Roslyn while in port in Africa. In WWII he served in the Army and then in the Merchant Marines carrying troops and supplies all over the world. Born in Ocean Springs to Thomas Eugene Verner and Anne Buehler Verner, he was raised by his grandmother affectionately called "Mom". He is preceded in death by his precious wife of 51 years, Jewel Verner.

Richard E. Flores, born in San Antonio, TX, died on June 9, 2010 in Pascagoula, MS. Preceded in death by his father, Espirio and mother, Olivia Flores of Brownsville, TX. In 1983, he brought the drill rig "Seabee" for Chiles Co. to Mobile Bay, AL as project manager. In the late '80's, he brought the rigs to Pascagoula for repair at "Ham" Industries. He adopted this area and became a full-time resident. In 1991 when he became one of the co-founders of "Seaman's Cove Restaurant."

J. D. Cutrern, a native of Holden, LA, and a resident of Mobile, and long-time resident of Pascagoula, MS, died June 24, 2010. He was a member of Moffett Road Baptist Church, where his son, Dr. Terry Cutrer is pastor. While living in Pascagoula, he owned Gulf Motor Company. He was a deacon at First Baptist Church, Pascagoula, MS and served on the Board of Trustees at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth. 

Gwendolyn "Sissy" Lambert, 38, a native of Pascagoula, MS and a longtime resident of Grand Bay, AL died on June 24, 2010.

Major Menno Ronald Saunders, U.S. Air Force, Ret., 90, of Ocean Springs, MS., died July 6, 2010, in Ocean Springs. Mr. Saunders was born in Canton, South Dakota on February 21, 1920. He was a veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict and retired as a Major in the Air Force after 25 years of service. Upon retiring in 1986 he moved to Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Preceded in death by his wives, Mary Mitchell Saunders and Lavon Holbrook.

MSgt. Thomas L. "Tom" Reynolds, Sr., U.S. Air Force, Ret., 77, passed away July 7, 2010 at his home in Gautier, MS. He was born to John Hosey and Pearl Cooley Reynolds in Ovett, MS, where he lived until he enlisted in the Air Force at the age of 17. He served twenty dedicated years on assignments in Germany, Iceland, Turkey, France and Vietnam until he retired in 1971. MSgt. Reynolds received many awards and medals including the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Bronze Star. While in Vietnam, Tom served in the "Prime Beef" Red Horse Division. Preceded in death by his parents, John Hosey and Pearl Reynolds; daughte,r Patricia Ann Reynolds; sister, Sadie Speed and his three brothers, James, Virgil, and Bob Reynolds.

Bettie Jewel Sawyer, 80, of Moss Point, MS passed away July 8, 2010 in Knoxville, TN. She was born in Shelby County, AL Preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward C. Sawyer; one son, John H. Sawyer; brothers Curtis Vernon and Tommy Vernon; one sister, Edna Locke and one granddaughter, Erica Rennell. Bettie's grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Maureen Lorraine (Hart) Jones, 59, born December 4, 1950 in Mobile, AL to the union of the late Marvin C. and Ruth Hart of Pascagoula. With the exception of her first few months, she lived her entire life in Pascagoula. She passed away July 9, 2010 at her home. Following her graduation in 1968 from Pascagoula High School Maureen married her sweetheart and soul mate, Philip D. Jones of the Pecan community, east Jackson County on September 19, 1969. Philip preceded her in death January 22, 2006.  Funeral services held from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Brian Miller of Pine Lake Baptist Church in Vancleave officiating.

His tours of duty included Korea and Vietnam where upon he was awarded a bronze star medal and many other meritorious service metals.
