Chronology of Service 


8 May 1861 Mustered into state service at Lexington.
23 July Assigned to Martin's Regiment, 25th Miss. Infantry Regiment.
Early Oct. Arrived Columbus, Ky., assigned to Bowen's Brigade, the 25th became known as the 1st Miss. Valley Regiment. Went into winter quarters.
1 Jan. 1862 Shifted winter quarters to Bowling Green, Ky.
31 Jan. Regiment now called the 2nd Confederate Regiment. Brigaded with the 22nd Miss. Inf. Regt.
12 Feb.  Departed Bowling Green, because of Grant's movements toward Ft. Doneleson.
Early Mar. Arrived Iuka, went into camp.
6-7 April Battle of Shiloh.
27 April Battle of Farmington.
8 May Regiment disbanded. The three Mississippi companies are now formed into the 1st Miss. Battalion Sharpshooters.
May - July On pickett duty around Vicksburg during bombardment. In General Van Dorns's army.
3-5 Oct. Battle of Corinth. Deployed as rearguard during retreat. repulsed several cavalrly attacks during the movement toward Holly Springs.
Jan.- Mar. 1863 Attached to Rust's Brigade at Jackson, Miss.
Mar.- Apr. Attached to Featherston's Brigade. Engaged with Sherman's invasion force along Deer Creek.
4 Apr. Engaged in forced reconnaissance on Federal position near Ft. Pemberton and on the Tallahatchie River.
Early May  On duty between Jackson and Vicksburg.
15 - 16 May Battle of Baker's Creek (Champion Hill) , formed rearguard for Loring's retreat to Crystal Springs and return to Jackson on the 21st of May.
9-16 July Defended Jackson during the seige. 
17 July Began retreat with Johnson's army, first to Morton and later to Demopolis, Alabama.
30 July Major James M. Stigler assumes battalion command.
Feb. 1864 Arrived Demopolis, Ala.
Early May Ordered to Georgia to defend Atlanta.........
12-16 May Battle of Resaca
19 May Battle of Cassville
25 May - 4 June Battle of New Hope Church (near Dallas).
27 June Battle of Kennesaw Mountain near Marietta.
20 July Battle of Peachtree Creek.
28 July Heavily engaged on Lickskillet Road.
29 July - 30 Aug. In Trenches before Atlanta.
31 Aug. Engaged at Rough and Ready and also at Flint River crossing above Jonesboro.
1 Sept. Battle of Jonesboro.
Oct.- Nov. Campaign against Chattanoga and Atlanta R.R., captured outposts at Big Shanty and Acworth.
26 Nov. Engaged at Columbia.
30 Nov. Battle of Franklin.
15- 16 Dec. Battle of Nashville. 
17 - 28 Dec. Fought as rear guard under Walthall for retreating army, engaged at Columbia, Anthony's Hill, and Sugar Creek.
28 Dec. Crossed Tennessee River and continued to Tupelo for the winter, Maj. Stigler commanding, only 63 men and officers remained in the Battalion.
Early Feb. 1865 Ordered to reinforce Johnson's Army in the Carolinas.
25 Feb. Ordered from Augusta, Ga. to join Johnson's Army at Newberry, S.C.
10 Mar. Battle of Kinston.
19-21 Mar. Battle of Bentonville. Last battle of the army. About sundown, in the final volley of the battle, Major Stigler was wounded.
9 April Col. James M. Stigler given command of the 3rd Consolidated Inf. Regt. 
26 April Army surrendered near Durham Station.
