Harrison County was formed in 1841 from Hancock, Jackson,
and Perry Counties. It was named for William Henry Harrison. Although
the county suffered some record loss in 1916, there are marriage and
land records available from 1841 and probate records from 1853. The
county seat is Gulfport.
