MOSS/SWAN
My MOSS family was in
Benton
Co MS in 1880. John David MOSS and wife Martha Dove SWAN,
daughter of Wilson H SWAN and Mary McDonald, who lived in AR as
well as MS. I see on 1890 Confederate veterans page, John V MOSS
in Benton Co, Hickory Flat. That is where they lived. I feel the V is a
typo. John David and family were in Prairie Co AR by 1900. I want to
find
further records of them living in Benton Co, such as tax records, civil
court records, death records, etc. I know they did have infant twins to
die there.
John was son of John and Nancy
MOSS
of Limestone Co AL. Any help is appreciated.

ROSS
ROSS; Hickory Flats, Benton
Co., MS
I'm looking for information on
Francis M. (Marion ) ROSS and William C. ROSS, who were
residing
in Hickory Flats in 1910. Francis M, known as Marion, was born 1849 in
TN. His wife, Hardy V. ______ was born about 1873 in MS. According to
the
census records she was Marion's second wife and they had been married
for
17 years. Children listed with them were Charles S. born about 1887 in
MS, Walter, born about 1895 in MS, Thelma M. born about 1889 in MS and
Murry born about 1901 in MS. Marion ROSS is listed as the owner or
employee
of a general store.
Also in Hickory Flats in 1910 was
William C. ROSS born 1847 in TN. His wife was Margaret born about 1847
in MS. Living with them is Mary A. ROSS listed as a niece born 1892 in
MS. (Mary was probably another child of Marion and Hardy ROSS. William
owned or worked for a sawmill.
According to my great aunt, Marion
ROSS was the brother of my great grandfather, Josiah ROSS. I believe
that
their parents were Francis M and Sarah (probably GEORGE) ROSS who were
born 1819 in MS and 1820 in NC, respectively.
I would appreciate hearing from
anyone who is familiar with these ROSS families in Hickory Flats.
